Justin Raimondo: Pearl Harbor: Roosevelt Knew

by Justin Raimondo, December 07, 2012

Today is the seventy-first anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, an act that brought us into World War II, pushed a reluctant America onto the world stage, and ushered in the age of empire. The official history of that event is that it was a "sneak attack" precipitated by war-crazed Japanese militarists, and that the totally unprepared Americans – kept from arming themselves by evil "isolationists" in Congress and the Republican party – were caught completely by surprise.

There is, however, one big problem with this official history: it’s a lie.

The truth is that, by the winter of 1941, the Americans had decrypted the various Japanese military and diplomatic codes: President Roosevelt, key members of his cabinet, and top military leaders, including Gen. George C. Marshall, US Army chief of staff, had access to this intelligence, which was intercepted, decoded, and transmitted directly to them. We know this because Robert Stinnett, in researching his seminal book, Day of Deceit: The Truth About FDR and Pearl Harbor, obtained heretofore unknown documents under the Freedom of Information Act, which trace the intelligence stream from interception stations throughout the Pacific to the 36 Americans cleared to look through what was, in effect, a window into Japanese plans and preparations for the Pearl Harbor attack. The President and 35 other Americans in top political and military circles knew where the attack was to take place, they knew when it was to take place, and they watched it unfold, step by step, with full knowledge of its import.

FDR was guilty for not defending Pearl Harbor, regardless of ...

the motive. It was the 'progressive' ideas of his and Wilson's administrations, and World Wars, that gradually eroded the Bill of Rights, just as 9-11 was used to make the Bill of Rights a practical non-entity.

What we need is an event like

What we need is an event like a new Pearl Harbor. 'America buy war like children gobble candy."Henry Kissinger." Military men are just dumb stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy." Henry Kissinger.

so was 9/11 our next pearl harbor

Or do we need another event like that to yank us into WW3?

FDR Got Away With Murder

Many people are at least aware of the controversy around Abraham Lincoln. Even if they ultimately side with Lincoln and the North, most are willing to concede that the War Between the States was a terrible tragedy, more of a misunderstanding than anything else, and that there were patriotic people on both sides - I am not one of those people, but that is better than nothing.

FDR, by contrast, is a veritable saint. Most people are not even aware that there is another side to the story. FDR's progressive vision defeated the Great Depression, paving the way for the modern social-democratic state prized by liberals and conservatives. FDR's heroic stand for freedom saved the world from the Axis, paving the way for the American superpower state which still polices the world. That FDR failed miserably to overcome the Great Depression, provoked the Japanese into firing the first shot at Pearl Harbor (like Lincoln tricked the Confederates into doing at Fort Sumter), and relied more on his deal with the devil (Stalin) and millions of sacrificed Soviet soldiers to win more than anything else is not part of the historical narrative. The origins of the 20th-century welfare/warfare state can be traced directly back to the reign of FDR (and Wilson, as well).

More proof

Why did Washington wire Pearl Harbor a warning that came hours too late instead of picking up a phone? Why were General Short and Admiral Kimmel made scapegoats for being unprepared when it chain of command laid the responsibility to Marshall and Roosevelt?

This is why one has to hope there really is a heaven and hell, that justice will be mete out to traitors like FDR---Who no doubt believed in the nihilistic philosophy of George Bush jr.'s "We'll be all dead" in reply if concerned how history would view his actions.

I hope part of FDR's punishment includes him forced to watch in high definition, in 3D full color, the human suffering that day. To listen in stereophonic sound the cries of those who died horribly in the bowels of those ships sunk at Pearl Harbor. The despair of those trapped in overturned ships for two weeks, like those in the USS West Virginia, their oxygen running out, tapping on the hull hoping someone will hear them and get them out. That he feels every iota of fear and pain each and everyone one of those men who trusted him as their CIC to watch their backs. Throw in the grief and tears of loved ones left behind, who had voted for him and trusted he had Americans personal welfare at heart.

Then after a couple of aeons watching that over and over, he can experience the rest of the victims suffering as a result of his actions. Won't he be surprised to see himself standing next to Hitler, Tojo, Stalin, and the rest of the tin-pot dictators!

Great article, Justin. However, it was pretty common knowledge

even in 1941 that FDR maneuvered us into war with Japan. The circumstantial evidence was always there in plain sight; ALL US aircraft carriers safely out at sea, General Billy Mitchell's warning about the vulnerabilities of Navy ships to aircraft attack, the Secretary of War refusing all suggestions by the Army and Navy flag officers at Pearl to beef up security. FDR really wanted to fight Germany, but the strength of the German Bund and the "America First" movements in the US prevented him from taking on Germany directly. FDR near a declaration of war on Japan would force Hitler to declare war on the US, which he did.

Bob I don't think that this

Bob I don't think that this is common knowledge in the general public. While many on this site may be aware I don't think that makes it common knowledge. Most people believe what they were told in government schools. They think that fdr was a hero. Most will ignorantly argue that it was a surprise attack. The evidence to the contrary is irrelevant.

FDR was guilty of goading Tokyo, not allowing a sneak attack

This is exhasperating. FDR was guilty of goading Tokyo, not of knowingly allowing a sneak attack to destroy our fleet. He goaded Japan into war by imposing the oil embargo. EVERYONE knew it was only a matter of time before Japan had to do something to break it. The question was when.

Some, like Stimson, believed he could put the day of reckoning off by standing down everywhere in the Pacific, offering no chance of an exploitable situation.

He was convinced America was unprepared for the war FDR's policy was bringing on, and was buying for time. Right up to the moment the zeroes unloaded their bombs over Pearl Harbor.

Truth is, allowing the sneak attack would not have been necessary. People give too much credit to "isolationism". Fact is, it was long gone by then.

Everyone in America was in a war mode. World War II was more than two years old. The Watch was extended across the United States. Preparedness and premobilisation was in effect. Rationing was being set in place.

Most importantly: Everyone seems to forget that, at the same moment the USS Arizona was keeling over in flames, the Japanese simultaneously attacked Wake Island, Midway Island, Guam, and the Philippines.

ANY of these attacks by themselves would have been enough to rouse Americans to a fever pitch, eager to spare life and limb to see Tokyo in flames. We did not have to lose our fleet and suffer a year's reversals just to win over an isolationist public.

All it had to take to throw America lives into the grinder for victory was one single event. Maybe the sinking of an American ship on its way to Guam.

"Cowards & idiots can come along for the ride but they gotta sit in the back seat!"

You are wrong. Roosevelt knew

You are wrong. Roosevelt knew the Japanese were going to bomb. Pearl. The code was broken many weeks before the attack occured. FDR, through his world elite handlers was instructed to get the US into the war to save Stalin who was losing control of the USSR because Germany was kicking their asses on the eastern front. The people who faught against communism were starting to rise up against stalin so the US was was brought in to the war to make a tougher western front against germany and for germany to move troops out of the USSR. this allowed Stalin the opportunity to stop the civil strife inside his own country because he could pull troops from fighting germany. I know Roosevelt knew the Japs were coming because my grandfather was in that dept in world war 2. 3000 american servicemen were sacrificed to get the American people mad enough to get into world war 2. Kinda like 911. You want to read the non statist view of history and about the world wars? Go here, www.chaostan.com get Maybury's books. the 1000 year war in the middle east and ww1 and ww2 the other side of the story. What you were taught in your government run statist schools is BS.

I am right. And you can't even acknowledge my solid evidence.

I am right. And you can't even acknowledge my solid evidence.

Guam. Philippines. Wake Island. Midway Island. ALL ATTACKED SIMULTANEOUSLY.

All were a cassus belli by themselves. The War Dept. was getting reports from all over the pacific of Japanese vessel movements. But Kimmel did not want to clash with these forces and precipitate war.

Its a case of incompetence and naivete.

But that's not as fun as the Illuminati handling FDR like a toy, is it? Or blathering about history like a 16 year old and cementing it with incontrovertible testimony from grandpa who was "in that department."

Goodness gracious. if you want some respect, this is NOT the way to earn it.

Pearl Harbor

No, it wasn't a sneak attack. FDR was determined to get into WW11.
This has been known for a long time. The New American has an excellent description of what happened. The most detailed I have ever read. Unfortunately, I am not astute at knowing how to put it on Daily Paul.Sorry.
