Amash, Huelskamp, Schweikert send letter to Boehner seeking answers

December 7, 2012

The Honorable John Boehner
Speaker of the House of Representatives
232 The Capitol
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Speaker Boehner,

We write to request a full and complete written explanation of the rationale for removing us from our current committee assignments, including any "scorecards" presented to the Steering Committee to justify our removals.

On Monday, we learned that we had been removed from our committee assignments. Some of us learned of this news from a member of the Steering Committee; others never were officially informed and heard of the action from press accounts citing anonymous leadership staffers. To this date, no formal explanation has been given for the removal.

After learning of our removal, it came to our attention that a scorecard was presented to the Steering Committee to make the case for our removal from those committees. On Wednesday morning, Mr. Huelskamp stood before the House Republican Conference and asked to see a copy of the scorecard used to remove us.

Through this past term, we were not aware that any such scorecard existed, nor that the scores would cause us to be removed from committee assignments. We believe this would be valuable information for the entire Republican Conference to know, so that each Member can make a full and complete decision when casting votes in the future. It would also allow us to communicate to our constituents which votes caused us to be removed.

Please provide a full and complete written explanation for our removal, including a copy of the scorecard presented to the Steering Committee meeting, by close of business Monday, December 10th.

Tim Huelskamp
U.S. Representative

Justin Amash
U.S. Representative

David Schweikert
U.S. Representative

Getting that scorecard...

...or reliable reportage as to what is on it, would be HUGE for the American people to know.

What, exactly, is the litmus test for being an acceptable neocon Republican anyway? My guess is it must be support for open-ended wars on "terror" and other amorphous targets.

Huelskamp is my Rep

Tim Huelskamp is my rep in the Big 1st District of Kansas. Now, because of lickspitals like Boner, Kansas for the first time in a very long time, does not have a rep on the Ag Committee. Needless to say this is very distressing to the people that feed this country.

As a person who knows a politican is lying when his mouth moves, Huelskamp, to his credit, was the only Kansas Rep to vote against the 2012 NDAA and is a strong supporter of the Constitution even though he is a Republican.

Now being removed from all committees tells me he must be doing something right to protect and defend the Constitution. Now days if you support the Constitution in the District of Criminals you are a target.

Never heard of the

Never heard of the non-amash's. anybody have the scoop on them?

backed Schweikert a bit. Well, a PAC related to YAL (Young Americans for Liberty). Comparatively, he opposed NDAA over opponent. Don't know about other dude. I phonebanked for Schweikert a bit.

Huelskamp used to be my rep

Huelskamp used to be my rep before the Congressional lines were redrawn. I think he's pretty good, but the Rand haters certainly won't like him, because his voting record isn't as good as Rand's.

I typically do not like to

I typically do not like to click on FoxNews links, but I did, and I read the article. Just an observation, but I noticed that they do not allow comments. Hmmmm, wonder why?!

Sissies Beseech a Thug

That's what the letter sounds like to me. They already know the rationale for being kicked off the committees. They chose to join the cesspool in D.C. and now whine about the stink to one of the most putrid contributors in the place. Pathetic.

you really have no clue why

you really have no clue why they wrote this letter do you? It's not because they really don't know why they were removed, it's because they're looking for a public statement and thus keeping the issue alive. If more republicans know they have a scorecard which can effectively remove them from certain petitions in the party, then it makes the upper brass look really bad. It's all a strategic move, but maybe was a little too complex for you to figure out.

they need guidance from the top, so they can vote accordingly. Amash innitially complained about his removal with the following indignation: "Why me? I have been voting along with the Republican party leadership 95% of the time."

You guys really have no idea how business or DC Politics work do you?

Of course they know why. This is about getting the reasons, which look bad for Boehner, aired publicly.

They're just following protocols.

SteveMT's picture

Boehner was not following protocols! That is sure.

Respect is a 2-way street. These Congressmen were unceremoniously thrown out of their committee posts very reminiscent of how Ron Paul delegates were thrown-out in Tampa. Boehner does not deserve any respect either from these Congressmen or anyone else.

My question is

Why even bother having a committee if the votes are going to be skewered only one way? Is the GOP becoming a dictatorial power? Because if we remove those who vote a different way than we like what the hell else can we call it?

said....especially when you consider the republican party is supposed to be for individual freedoms and less central power.

Similar to romney taking over the primary and destroying the rules and concentrating power among a few - really showing the american people how ethical the party is - living by what they preach.

Why not create an undergroud budget committee

Justin Amash says the purge was because Libertarians want to cut the Defense Budget, How about real Conservatives meet with Lefties and see if they can suggest a compromise budget together sarting with 30% cut in Defense Spending with 10% more each month the war continues, Maybe they would agree to internet perscriptions and a small reward for medical tourism even a small reward if a patient choose to have an opperation in a cheaper part of US territory, etc, etc,

More ideas on an alternet budget compromise at,

If still an issue in a week check this sight thsat doesnt archive,

I hope others suggest what compromises can be made outside letting the Budget Committee dictate,

PS One can not email a Representative beside ones own, so I hope this idea gets forwarded to those who were purged.
Does anyone have a suggestion for contacting Casey in such a way as not to get generic emails back?

or make a suggestion at my Daily Paul post,

Very good ideas!

Very good ideas!

I hope they succeed.
