I'm going to grow Hemp

I live in the Yakima valley in Washington state and I'm a farmer. My wife, 1/2 year old, and I live with my parents on their farm and I help out, its a small place less than 20 acres and its mostly an alpaca farm. They aren't serious farmers, they have only had the place for 5 years now and both have full-time jobs on the side. I NEED TO GET MY OWN PLACE!

I have been considering different staple crops to grow as a base money maker so that I can do fun U-pick stuff on the side and not feel pressured to make a lot of money off of the fun stuff. With the passage of I-502 industrial hemp production has been legalized in Washington state and I think I have found my staple crop. Everything I read about it makes me wonder more and more why such a versatile crop has been illegal.

I know there are businesses in the US that use the raw materials for different purposes like paper, textiles, and oil/food, so there will definitely be a market for me to sell to, since these companies have to import their hemp, the costs for hemp grown in the US should have a distinct advantage as far as price.

Any advice from the DP community would be greatly appreciated! Right now I'm still in a research phase and working on a business plan for financing. But all that said, I would be ecstatic if I could get seeds in the ground this spring/early summer, so I'm working hard!

The legalization road

The way the Cannabis plant in all variations has been set up to run the gauntlet of detailed law in both Washington and Colorado is just a way to prevent it from actually reaching its potential as a crop on any large scale. Attached is a link that will help explain why it has always been so manipulated. And this is only one out of at least ten. The connected few know cannabis in all of its forms has the potential to make fundamental changes to social structure and strip their power away overnight.

' Everything I read about it

' Everything I read about it makes me wonder more and more why such a versatile crop has been illegal.'

That is precisely why it is illegal. So many corporations have 'legal' rights to 'natural resources' and make a shit-ton of money. Hemp cuts into that profit, thus the biggest anti-hemp lobbies are the oil/textile/cotton/timber(paper) industries.

Here's what I'd suggest.

Since you are on the DP, you are an independent free thinking spirit.

Would it be possible to grow hemp hidden on your parents farm, then use that hemp to build a house somewhere on the land?

I've always wanted to build an 'earth-ship' created out of hempcrete.

If you played your cards right, with hard work and sweat you could very well build your own, and not have to worry about income as the building itself is made to produce food / electricity / water.

Just a thought!

Apov

Send me a PM. I've got some links for you that would help in your research, but am interested myself and have some questions for you.

Let me know,

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

you will need to access male plant seeds

and you will need to learn how to clone them in order to make sure your entire crop is Hemp and not Cannabis. You cannot rely on seed to farm Hemp, you will need to acquire male plants and clone off of them or you could infact end up with a partial Cannabis farm and that could score you some trouble I am assuming. Hope that helps, good luck!!!!

Not Sure

it's too wise to announce that on the internet for all the world to see. Remember that guy that they sent to jail for 60 years for growing pot commercially? The state allowed him to grow it, the sheriff was cool with it and then in come the fed goons and shut him down and nobody would stand up for him. They even got a freaking loser jury to throw him away. I think it was Dupont that got hemp banned because it cut into their profits. You are asking for trouble.

Coward

go be wise by yourself, Patrick Henry and Andrew Jackson would spit on talk like this.

The individual who refuses to defend his rights when called by his Government, deserves to be a slave, and must be punished as an enemy of his country and friend to her foe. - Andrew Jackson

Patrick Henry had the people

Patrick Henry had the people behind him today the sheep believe the federal government trumps states rights. So what good would it do to go to jail and be forgotten when no one will stand up for their rights?

There are many patriots rotting in jail because they do not have the support of the people to stand up for their rights. One must choose wisely the hill they will die on.

What stand have you made that risks your freedom and threatens to let you rot on jail that you may call others cowards who choose wisely their battles?

Ummmm kaaaayyyyyyy

Are you a Monsanto supporter?

I'm really not a fan of "Skippy" this guy is a joke.

WHAT

does Monsanto have to do with not thinking it's a good idea to grow hemp and announce it online? And no, I HATE Monsanto. If that is being a joke then I am okay with being one.

Obvious why Hemp has been illegal

Because you can make everything out of it that you can with oil. Petro oil is what gives the banking cartel power because they have a monopoly on it. Research the Rockefellers and their control over this nation. You can squeeze oil out of the hemp seeds and make methanol from the stalks. If people started making their own hemp oil the price of gas would go down drastically and it would not longer go to the elite who set their own prices and rape us at the pumps. There are over 25,000 known products you can make with it and its sustainable. It can grow wild just about anywhere and doesn't need any pesticides. The first cars including Henry Fords Model T ran on hemp oil before the Rockefellers and Hearst bamboozled people into using petro oil. You can run any Diesel car on hemp oil. If you can find any viable hemp seeds let me know where you get them. I've been looking to buy some online but its almost impossible.

I know rand has been getting a lot of slack lately but if he can get hemp legalized in Kentucky that would be his savior. There's a good movie on netflix called "Hempsters: Plant the Seed " check it out. And no I'm not a pot smoker or a hippy, I'm just a Ron Paul fanatic.

I'm having a hard time of

I'm having a hard time of that myself, but I'll let you know for sure!

It has to be VIABLE Hemp

In order for it to grow and produce more seeds.

Fast, pray, and lift it to the lord. Protect your family and your property like our founders did and everything will be ok in time.

THE CLASS OF CITIZENS WHO PROVIDE AT ONCE THEIR OWN FOOD AND THEIR OWN RAIMENT, MAY BE VIEWED AS THE MOST TRULY INDEPENDENT AND HAPPY.
James Madison

Rights Versus Responsibilities

There is a difference between rights and responsibilities. It may be your right to grow hemp, but given the fact that doing so may lead to the feds swooping in to imprison you, seize your property, and terrorize your family makes it irresponsible.

Similarly, although it is the right of every state, county, city, neighborhood, household, and individual to secede from the federal government, that would not a responsible use of their rights, for the feds have declared secession to be treason, terrorism, and a mental disorder.

Remember, submission is not consent. Take heart. Live to fight another day.

"Yesterday we obeyed kings and bent our necks before emperors, but today we kneel only to truth." - Kahlil Gibran

Submission is not consent. I

Submission is not consent.

I have been playing those words in my mind for a few minutes, letting them sink in as you've said them and I don't like it.

I understand the merit and strategy of picking your battles, but I feel like I've found mine. I have finally found something that I cannot ignore and must pursue. I feel like I have located a profound contradiction in law or society or whatever its called and I feel like I have to bring attention to it.

By submitting and not growing hemp, I'm saying that I'm ok with allowing American companies import hundreds of millions of dollars worth of a raw material that can easily be grown on American soil, and actually was widely grown for most of country's young history, and forgo the possibility of creating clean, green American jobs. This I cannot submit to and while I appreciate the words of caution, I must for the sake of my own soul ignore them.

I Empathize

I understand your feelings completely. In fact, I empathize. When confronted with tyranny, our natural impulse as human beings is to defend our natural rights. There is no sense, however, in invoking your rights if it is guaranteed to end in the deprivation of your life, liberty, and property. Like anything in life, we must weigh the costs and benefits, pros and cons, etc.

The threat of coercion may force us to submit to an unjust law, but that does does not mean we consent to the unjust laws which violate natural law, nor does it mean we will not bide our time and strike at the opportune moment. I am preparing for such a great and glorious day, and hope and pray it comes in my lifetime. A criminal may use the threat of violence to force us to our knees and surrender our property to him, but that does not mean we condone his actions or will not seek retribution if given the opportunity.

If you choose to grow hemp, I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully you are not the victim of violence at the hands of our merciless government. Do me a favor, though, and read some of the articles of William Norman Grigg on Pro Libertate and LewRockwell.com. Grigg captures how brutal the thugs in badges which police our neighborhoods are in dealing with "drug criminals."

Well I do know a deputy

Well I do know a deputy sheriff who likes me a lot, so I'll hit him up and see what he thinks.

Don't do it!

The federal government does not give a damn about state laws and rights. They will shut you down if you grow hemp without their permission. I have heard you can get a federal permit to grow hemp however I have also heard they are extremely hard to get.

Bottom line is you don't want to invest a bunch of time and money only to have rogue government come and shut you down and even arrest you and jail you. if you had a sheriff who knew his authority and would stand up to the Feds it would be different but very few do.

Will they even focus on me

Will they even focus on me when there are going to be hundreds of start-up, state legal farms growing a drug(marijuana), not to mention these marijuana farms have to be licensed, so the feds can and will know where they are, while growing hemp according to I-502 does not need a license to grow.

Just a thought.

Its your risk

In Light of the feds track record do you want to risk going to jail and losing your investment? One must pick wisely the hill they will die on.

They don't see hemp as any different then high potency marijuana they don't care what laws the state passed they believe (wrongly) federal law trumps state law and most of the dumbed down sheeple believe the same. You never want to put your fate in the hands of jury of sheep... It's not worth it IMO but it is entirely up to you.

All it would take is a good sheriff willing to stand up. You might contact your local sheriff and present him a copy of Sheriff Mack's book and ask him to read it and if he does read it ask him if he will stand up for you if the Feds violate your rights? Still it is a pretty shaky proposition he might get scared when the threaten to pull his funding and the sheep might recall him when they find out.

Until the states and the county Sheriffs stand up to the feds they will continue to ride rough shod over us. They are all bought off with federal bribe money and that is more important to them then standing up for your rights.
