I use coconut oil with my food and also rely on olive oil. Since, my mental acuity has increased. If my mind is groggy, I'll take a teaspoon of olive oil. Yum!

A general principle to follow

A general principle to follow regarding your health is that your body is designed to function and repair itself so feed it natural things and avoid the unnatural things. Live naturally, move around, walk, think positively to reduce stress, etc. The medical model of "trust me I'm a doctor" I do not trust since the great physician is who created our bodies.

The major killers are chronic diseases. These disease are almost all preventable and fixable by removing stressers and living a healthier lifestyle.

For me, it has lowered my Triglycerides,(it's 75, normal levels are < 196) glucose levels (it's 82, normal is between 60 and 115) and for those wanting to lose weight, it helps significant weight lose, even if you maintain you normal diet (2 tablespoons, twice per day)

My question is...

If coconut oil works because of the resulting ketone uptake in the brain, then wouldn't a ketogenic diet aka atkins, protien power or whatever, work even better?

Ketogenic diets have long been used for children with epilepsy and chronic seizures.

A ketogenic diet also has long been used to treat diabetes and insulin resistance.

A ketogenic diet has helped those with irritable bowl syndrome (and all the related bowl diseases)

Also, would a ketogenic diet be better for test taking? Does it help concentration or the quickness of the brain?

Just on a personal note,

read my comment below. I have also been giving my husband protein powder for the diabetes... gotta read labels carefully, though. Lots of crap in some of that stuff. Protein does help lower blood sugar, but it didn't do anything for the dementia, at least as far as I could tell. Now I use both organic coconut oil and protein powder and he is almost back to being the man I fell in love with and he is healthier and happier than he's been in a couple of years! Coconut oil does work and you will see a positive difference in just a few days.

I follow the Paleo lifestyle but eat carbs.

Someone posted a similar article and video about this doctor and her husband a couple of months ago. My husband was showing signs of dementia and early stage Alzheimers, and after reading the post I thought, "coconut oil can't hurt him; it may not work but, it can't hurt him", so I tried it. It's been over two months, with increasing doses from 2 tablespoons a day to 5 to 6 tablespoons full spread out during the day, and I can tell you IT DOES WORK! His mind is coming back and he isn't getting brain fog anymore.

I checked with my niece, who is an organic chemist, and she told me she never heard of using coconut oil for Alzheimers but, that chemically, it makes sense and encouraged me to give it a try, as long as I give her uncle ORGANIC coconut oil. I notified our doctor about what I was doing and emailed him the video. He's not big on natural cures but, he goes along with things I sometimes find, as long as it doesn't do any harm.... like a certain vitamin B formula for diabetic neuropathy that worked far, far better than the big pharma drug he prescribed.

In fact, both of these natural cures are working so well that I have them on auto ship every month.

the video is missing a part of the problem. A big part. The doctors are not needed. Unless you have a major malfunction and need their emergency help. And notice they show VCO (virgin coconut oil) added to the Quaker Oats. The problem? The Oats. Grains contain gluten and mycotoxins that prevent the uptake of minerals within the same meal.

We have been told that running on ketones is bad and that running on carbs is better. However the ketones are glucose made from fats (like in VCO) and protein and it is made when the body needs it. Most folks eat high carbs and there is too much sugar in the blood and insulin is dispatched to bring it down because sugar is bad for the body.

Near the end of the video they mention a "better" way in the form of ketone ester and they need millions of dollars to make it work. Ha Ha. Why wait for the expensive lab stuff when you can eat VCO now and for cheap. But of course it protects their jobs and they need funding.

VCO is excellent. The cholesterol they mention could be a ruse too. Our body creates cholesterol as it needs it to make repairs. We panic and visit a doctor and they give us drugs to lower our cholesterol (which rarely if ever works) and causes more problems which they are happy to give another drug for.

Alzheimer's is just one of many (civilized maladies) that can be helped (cured) by real food.

To summarize we should eat natural foods high in fat, moderate protein and low, low carbs and the body will use it all where needed to bring our health back.

My better half and I switched to Organic Virgin coconut oil about a month ago (GNC carries it) I knew that it was good for us but had no idea that it was this important in your diet. My understanding is that our brain is 75% saturated fat and that alot of people are avoiding ALL fats because of out of date studies. Some fats can be bad but fats like coconut oil feed the brain and the fat needs of your body. Thanks for posting, this is amazing!!

It is good for brain fog, regardless of severity

SSRIs scrambled my brains pretty thoroughly and it was a long recovery with many elements contributing, but the coconut oil was one of the most profound aids. I buy organic and put it in fruit smoothies - a couple tablespoons. On days when I feel "foggy" the difference is notable within about 15 minutes. Additional benefits have included healthier hair and skin. It is good stuff. A local in Belize told us the coconut is the Grandfather, and he takes care of us.

It's the high sugar fruit smoothie causing the brain fog. Fruit is way high in sugar and fiber and fiber is not good. Know why? We are not cows with multiple stomachs for fermenting fiber into usable nutrients. Let me know if you wish an idea for a better smoothie. One that will nourish you instead of jack you up and then crash you.

And removing sugars and slowly increasing high quality fats and moderate protein and decreasing carbs will chelate out all the damage done by SSRIs. And heal the reason you took them in the first place. The SSRIs are given by doctors that still think that a drug will heal an organic being. You. Another perfect example of the racket known as the medical community.

I'll hear you out, although I am already onto to juicing. I don't use a ton of fruit, and I use raw milk which I find helps my digestion. But I am always looking for ways to do better - whatcha got?

i didn't use a ton of fruit either

but too much I found out. I could survive on fruit and nuts. Found out that fruit is high in sugar and nuts are hard too digest. My digestion and elimination suffered. I'm not going to argue that it all didn't taste good. That high we get after carbs quickly fades and it's difficult to look at it logically when under the influence.

Theory is that high quality fats (like coconut oil and butter) and moderate protein (animal) and low carbs will allow the body to chelate out all that is foreign to it. Via pee and poop and sweat and even through pimples, dandruff and rashes.

Raw milk is healthy for a healthy person but it is high in sugar and it does contain the lactase for digesting the lactose present in milk. I really like raw grass fed cream and milk but I leave it alone yet as it does make me constipated.

Here is what I have found to be a better "smoothy". 4 cups hot water, 4 eggs, half teaspoon of sea salt, teaspoon of licorice, cinnamon, ginger, 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup coconut oil and in the blender and blend.

Drink it hot or let it cool. Lots of great fat and protein and low carbs and give it awhile and see if you like it. Stays with you and doesn't drop you and gives your temple what it needs to throw out what isn't needed and in fact causes all kinds of trouble. And you may know of that trouble.
