Deactivated My Facebook Account!

I finally listened to my better judgment and deactivated my Facebook account. For almost 2 years I have been posting articles and commentary/correspondence on a range of issues: Water Fluoridation, GMO foods, Ron Paul, UCC, vaccinations, etc. to absolutely no avail. I am certain that my account has been defriended by many and avoided by many more. Neither family or friends wish to discuss these pressing and important issues and the only time I actually got any response is when I would post something about family (non-controversial issues).

I have grown weary of trying to educate and provide information to those I love and those I've known my entire life. I feel my time is better spent at the Daily Paul or writing about issues to a wider audience, i.e. local newspaper/publisher. I actually feel liberated in this decision and quite frankly do not feel that I'll be missed that much. It felt as though my posts were causing more harm than good by the lack of response or further inquiry from those connected with me.

I wanted to share this with all of you and let those who are debating doing the same thing to consider it if it feels right.

Peace and Love first.

A thought

In order to promote liberty i thinks it's generally a lot easier to reference issues which are more or less accepted by the mainstream. Try to bring up stuff that's the least questionable and you're gonna get shot down of ignored. Bring up stuff that people generally know about or is easy to verify with irrefutable source material and you'll generally get a much better response.

Me too

I experienced exactly the same thing. Going on several months and I'm still very happy with my decision to have left.

I had a friend posting

I had a friend posting complaining about those people who post anything serious on Facebook because Facebook is meant to be fun. I post something I spent hours researching and considering, carefully selected and carefully worded and I get one or two likes from the same people. Then my wife posts a picture of a cookie she was about to eat and dozens of likes and comments about how delicious the cookie looks.

LMAO

That is to funny right there...it also sums op the depth of people minds nowadays. The house is burning down and they are more interested in a delicious cookie! Thanks for the laugh ! :)

Got Rid of Mine

A while back simply because I don't like everyone on the planet getting all up in my business. If friends want to talk to me they can call. ON MY LAND-LINE! If they can't do that, then they aren't that great of friends. Too many people depend too much on social network crap and not enough on real face to face conversation or sharing. It isn't much work to yak via the net is it? Here we all are depending on DP to keep us in the loop. What happens when the net goes down possibly for good? I am just as guilty as the rest of you. I get bent when the site is simply being worked on because this is my main news source.I used to grab the newspaper, now I go to the net in the mornings then check it off and on all day. Never trusted Facebook or Myspace or Twitter anyway. They ask WAY too many personal questions just to open an account. Surprised they don't ask for your blood type!

skippy

Good for you!

Facebook is the single most successful domestic intelligence gathering operation in the history of mankind.

Facebook Is a CIA/NSA Information Gathering Tool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmmWS3E8ciE

I hope more people shut down their Facebook accounts. Thank you for setting a great example. People who use it and think "What do I care? I have nothing to hide", give tacit approval for the same neocon argument used to support the Patriot Act and all of the warrant-less wiretapping.

Wrong

The whole internet is a CIA/NSA Information Gathering Tool. Facebook is nothing. Mine, your's & everyone's internet service providers give up our information to the CIA/NSA etc. All the time without anyone knowing anything about it & not just simple information, it's everything that you do on the internet

Do any of you actually read the Terms of Service Agreements?

Yes, the CIA/NSA use the entire internet to gather info, however Facebook has been the most successful domestic information gathering tool ever, by any measure. Why? Because sheep are stupid enough to constantly post updates on where they are at, what they are doing, what they are thinking, who they are with, pics with geo-tagging, taken from cell phones which collect geo-location tracking data, all for what? To get more Facebook likes? People who live like this are part of the problem.

Do any of you actually read the Terms of Service Agreements? Or do you just click "I accept"?

You are not wrong about the complicity internet service providers and cell phone carriers have, but I am not wrong that amongst all of the different tools they have, Facebook is their most successful.

You have to keep your facebook

That's what you have to do you got to reach out to people who don't agree with you, who never heard of the things you have posted about. Its important also to keep in touch with Facebook friends that are on your side. You can't just preach to the choir. It's not just Facebook get out there, go everywhere & especially away from your computer every once in a while or more.

i disagree

You can do a lot more talking about these issues face to face. plus who doesn't want to hang out with their friends outside of facebook?

His name is Edward Snowden

Yeah when I meet people

Yeah when I meet people outside of a computer they'll say how can I get in contact with you? here's my email, Skype, & Facebook page or whatever that person use's on the internet. Most likely than not when I meet new people I ask them how can I reach them they say here's my Facebook page

Welcome back, buddy.

I applaud any and all who disenthrall themselves from Total Information Awareness (TIA) CIA / FBI database.

Lots of dirty money and even dirtier motives got that friggin thing set up and going.... and its pimply-faced CEO / creator shares the sociopathic philosophy of the scumbags behind the curtain.

I know it's aweful handy for some things, but ....

What would the Founders do?

I'll keep mine...

Keeps me in touch with friends I haven't seen in decades, get's my band bookings (I played in my old hometown a couple months ago. It was like a class reunion!), and YES, I'll say whatever the hell I want politically or what I think of this world, and I'll do so with impunity....Will I be watched for my 'radical' notions about things? I'm sure I am, and don't give a rip...Crap! I bought two handguns a couple years ago on the same day on purpose!Watch-Away,government, maybe you'll have a little more respect for Liberty...The First Amendment has been preserved for 'surveillance purposes' and it's been that way for a long time. Maybe Daily Paul is a psyop too for the eventual big 'radical roundup'. Piss on em!

I get where you are coming

I get where you are coming from, but for people still on the Book, consider the quote by the Doc:

"Speak up, speak often
and don't worry about those that
at this point cannot understand,
as they can never un-hear
what we tell them."

I think about this "unhear" quote quite often. It gives me courage to talk to people about anything.

In terms of Facebook, I started posting videos of the Doc back in 08. Never really got much reponse, if any on FB. Then, right before the primary in 12, literally 3 different people who I had not seen in years told me that they had registered as a Republican JUST so that they could vote for Ron Paul. These are your formerly typical apathetic zombies who I had never ever heard talk about politics. I asked them how they heard of the Doc and all three answered the same. It was my videos oh so many years ago that piqued their interest. They did more research on their own, and a couple of them are even here among us now on the DP.

Don't forget, they can never unhear our message.

I don't care if it pisses

I don't care if it pisses people off. It pisses me off that people are so apathetic. Screw them. If they want to call themselves my "friend" they're going to have to suffer through my harmless Facebook posts that do nothing more than tell the truth.

Oh, I'm so sorry, was that offensive? Did I post something too controversial? I'll try to keep it to pictures of cats while people are murdered, molested and forcibly sodomized by our government.

They can simply stop

They can simply stop following your feed. I'm not sure why this is ever a big deal.

I have two facebook accounts

neither of which I use. Apart from the privacy concerns I found it monumentally boring, awkward and seemed to bring out the worst neediness in people as well as somehow instantly bringing everyones iq down 20 points.

Nice try but they don't want to hear it.

Sheeples are happy in their servitude.

They are happier in their ignorance.

I know exactly what you're talking about.

At work I was known as a nut-job, kook, weirdo, conspiracy theorist, whacked, freak, one of those "Ron Paul types" etc.

I finally learned to qeep quiet.

They even laughed when I put something up on the wall about the dangers of Aspertame.

Now all I do is bitch about U.S. foreign aid because it's still very difficult for me to keep quiet about that.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Funny thing is, everyone at

Funny thing is, everyone at work agrees with everything I have to say about our foreign policy, until I mention that I'm talking about Obama's policies....

My account is alive

and educating.

1 year ago I began posting status' about Ron Paul every day. People ignored me, deleted me, and even threatened me for being against invading foreign countries.

I don't care, their ignorance is not my ignorance and my life is not pending on their choices.

I mean, did they use dynamite to form Mount Rushmore or chisel piece by piece?

And I quote Ron Paul, "If I got upset over everything going on I would have been tired out a long time go."

They that give up liberty for security deserve neither.

somehow my gmail account got deleted

no idea why but with it went the youtube account. and google has this "recovery" process in which they will do something for free BUT they want your credit card. RIGHT. AS IF. I already resent this whole tracking and data mining thing. That's just a basic modesty issue. I don't want google in my bedroom any more than I want government in same.

So this has changed my life by like not_one_iota. So I decided not to care. Whoever or whatever deleted my account, maybe they were doing me a favour.

Facebook I never got into. I do more yapping on this board than is necessary as it is. And in this age of portable connectivity I am very happy that when I step out the computer and phone stay behind. I find it more relaxing. I'm into keeping life as simple as possible and all this face twitter chat friend me like me tell me you love me stuff just seems complicated. Ironic for the fact that I build software systems. It's got TIME VAMPIRE written all over it.

Now as you say, you question the validity of outreach on this tool. I've been hearing that more and more and how sponsored ads are kicking your content and one might wonder: is such an insular little online world possibly becoming simply and echo chamber where we're largely talking to ourselves?

Submitted for your consideration.

Someone used my email address to open a FB acct

Some random stranger (as far as I can tell) used one of my email addresses to open a Facebook account. They used a suggestive picture (not of me!) as a profile pic. It totally creeped me out. Because it used my email address, I was able to access the account, change the password, and then deactivate it. I wanted it gone altogether, though, so I wrote to Facebook and told them to please get rid of it, it wasn't mine. I don't know if they ever did.

Now that I think of it, I don't remember how I was able to get the initial password to access the account. I must have used the "I forgot my password" feature.

deacon's picture

same response i had

i honestly do not know what to do about it
i can deactivate,but i didn't activate it
i never used the i forgot my password deal
it was right there and i still get alerts to friends
people i do not know,it just creeps me out

this was the acct they used to "find me"
and the same acct for the password
they are both the same, for me it is distressing
and disturbing
i knew of FB from the friendly knowledgeable people
here on the DP,i usually have no reason to doubt
their sincerity,so i shy away from things, per their

Personal acct vs. Page

It is no good using Facebook as a personal account. It is setup to aid spying.

It is better to setup Facebook pages in order to spread message of liberty and Constitutional adherence. Like this:
