# Fibonacci in nature - patterns around us

If you think math is not cool (or if you think math is cool) you should watch these videos. Vi Hart is a "recreational mathemusician" that has put together a series of videos that demonstrate mathematics to kids using doodling games. This particular set of videos looks at things in nature that mimic the Fibonacci series.

Thing is, they are really good for adults as well, and even though I consider myself pretty well versed in math, her methods really make me think. I would highly recommend her entire "Doodling in Math Class" series, as well her other videos.

### Hey there, Lysian

I need some advice on processing if you'd be willing to help?

They that give up liberty for security deserve neither.

### Processing ? Processing what ?

Processing ? Processing what ?

Sure, I'd love to help, if I can.

What's the maths you're in ?

Cheers,

P.S.
And yes, that's my work. Or hobby rather. Domain specific computer languages, code generators, etc. http://www.cjandia.com/experiments/using-Microsoft-DSL-Tools...

and stuff.

### Newtonian Color Wheel

I am new to coding/scripting/processing but it is necessary for my thesis studies.

Basically, I would like to set up a ROYGBIV wheel that spins in front of an optical lens. the lens would detect the specific color tone and reply with the key note relative on the musical scale.

Red would be A, Orange B, Yellow C, etc. but would remain proportional in terms of color/key scale.

### Pointers. Check out D3

Oh I see. You might want to check out D3, if not done yet :

### excellent,

thank you!

### Collatz conjecture and Hailstone numbers

If you love the Fibonacci sequence, you gonna find the Collatz conjecture and Hailstone numbers pretty cool, too :

Or ... when chaos isn't chaos forever. Or is it ?

(hence, the conjecture)

In a good way....

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

### That is cool!

If you really want to have some fun, explore that whole site. I just found it tonight on a search for more info on the fingers, but there is a ton of great stuff on subjects from quantum physics to cosmology.

### black and white are all I see in my infancy

Hopefully this is prying some optical nerves open. Happy to see that I am not the only one making this connection. See my reply at the top of the thread.

### Really fun vids

but she could of slowed down just a little bit.

### I found the speed...

made it more entertaining... loved it. It's like speed reading, but it's speed listening... you get the point quickly, and you're more likely to finish it.

'Cause there's a monster on the loose

### She does go fast

I think it is to keep kids from getting bored, but I could use it a little slower.

### thanks so much for the excellent video!

### I showed this to my kids.

I showed this to my kids. They were enthralled. Thanks for posting!

### You're welcome

I'm glad your kids liked it. Math can be so interesting, but the school system seems to be geared to making it hopelessly boring. My oldest daughter showed me some of these videos and their potential really excited me.

### I was looking at Vi Hart's site

She addresses math and music, and does some interesting things with it.

http://vihart.com/music/

Her "Binary Music" is interesting as well.

http://vihart.com/papers/binary/

I'm afraid my musical skills are lacking, though I learned to read it once, long ago. My manual dexterity and ear for tones are both a little off for musical endeavors.

### I'll give it a try!

I suspect there would be a relation to the harmonic intervals, and it might need to be "read" differently, but I'm going to try that.
I'll have to try the math some other day, I have a screaming headache today.

### Hope You feel better

Thank you so much for the pointers to vector math, 3-6-9, 432-A, and Tesla. I'm old, and have learned a lot in the last week!

Take care of yourself. :)

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

### Now that is some powerful medicine right there!

Thank you. I just am learning this stuff, too. It is SO exciting, and to know that I got to point someone else to the "expanding universe" makes me feel better at a level far beyond a headache.
