Apples, corn, broccoli and lots of beans. That's what Mayor Cory Booker purchased on Saturday with the money he is allotting himself as part of the Food Stamp challenge.
Booker tweeted a picture of his Pathmark receipt earlier today, and he will begin the challenge on Tuesday.
The Food Stamp challenge aims to highlight what it is like to live on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The challenge is sponsored and promoted by the Food Research and Action Center.
The average monthly food stamp benefit was $133.26 per person in New Jersey in fiscal year 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That's a little over $33 per week, or $4 per day.
PS I am not encouraging Food Stamps programs I thought it was interesting and maybe useful for some (Preppers?)
