Denver Drug Agent: Our Problems ‘Have Exploded’ With Pot Legalization (video). This story is laughable

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) – No matter how regulated marijuana is, now that pot is legal in Colorado it will be hard to keep away from curious and unknowing kids, according to a member of a Denver-area drug task force.

“There’s plenty of evidence that this a harmful thing for kids. I can’t even believe I have to say that,” Sgt. Jim Gerhardt with the North Metro Drug Task Force told CBS4. “We’ve seen children infant age that have been getting into this stuff and hospitalized, and this has been under medical marijuana. I can’t imagine how bad it’s going to get with full blown legalization.”

At Arapahoe House, a drug and alcohol counseling center in Thornton, Angela Bornemann said marijuana use is already the most common addiction in teens they see. She says they are now expecting to see more and more problem dependance cases with the passage of Amendment 64.

Yes, that's the best way to "activate" it when baking

I may need to do some baking this weekend.

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience"—Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

It can be consumed and be

It can be consumed and be psychoactive. Why do you think people make pot brownies? I don't know how someone was hospitalized from it. You're just going to get a buzz for a few hours.

Baking is adding extreme heat, is it not?

That was my point. If you just eat the buds you will not get the same intense high as smoking it or eating it baked or cooked. You're right, maybe a slight body buzz but that's it.

I have eaten it before and felt nothing and as well I have eaten my fair share of pot brownies that F*** my s*** up.

Unless these infant children know how to bake or use a lighter, they are not having any kind of "high" experience, in my opinion.

Scaremongering. Why were kids hospitalized? So you can take them away from their parents, in order to justify your government job? This guy needs to be locked up. He's the real threat.

Freedom Ninja posted-->THC becomes psychoactive only when exposed to fire or extreme heat so if an infant simply eats it they're ONLY getting a bunch of nutrients not found in many foods today.

“There’s plenty of evidence that this a harmful thing for kids. I can’t even believe I have to say that,”

Neither can I.
My ancient experience is that THC and the other cannibinoids are all psychoactive right on the plant and require no heat activation whatsoever.

Do you have a link or some evidence to back your statement?

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty" TJ

It's simply not bioavailable in unheated bud form. I'll eat a 1/2 oz of pot and it won't do ish to me though it might scrap my throat pretty bad.

It is true that you don't need heat for THC to become psychoactive, but without heat it is so week that it won't do anything.

"heating a cannabis food/drink preparation actually makes it more potent. What actually happens is that additional THC is formed from the chemical breakdown of inactive carboxylic acid THC derivatives present in the cannabis. The carboxylic acid derivatives are inactive themselves, but when heated they readily lose their carboxylate group as carbon dioxide, and active THC is formed. In some instances, heating can actually double the active THC content of the original starting plant material [Iversen, 2000]."

In editable form THC needs to be bound by either fat or alcohol to be metabolized and feel high.

"THC and other cannabinoids are hydrophobic oils. They are insoluble in water but soluble in alcohols, fats, and other oils. As cannabinoids are insoluble in water alone, they suffer from low bioavailability when eaten. By dissolving the cannabinoids in alcohol, fats, or oils (such as the fat in butter and cheese), their ability to be absorbed by the body is increased. Heating the THC in the presence of fats or oils simply accelerates the process of dissolution in the fats [Iversen, 2000]."

Big dummy at

...Arapahoe House needs to move to Slap-a-ho house because Pot is NOT addictive.

Strictly speaking

Cannabis is NOT a physically additive substance as there are absolutely no physiological withdrawal symptoms associated with ceasing consumption.(no matter how habitually one has used it) However, it may become psychologically additive to some people who use the substance, but then again so can chocolate.
P.S. I think the only reason someone may go to the hospital after experiencing cannabis use is if they have no idea what the effects are like and they become frightened. It is IMPOSSIBLE to overdose from this substance. (I have tried!)

I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts.

Fear and loathing in Denver.

The people in Colorado have spoken. Live with it. Teens and young adults are already addicted to all of the illegal drugs brought into this country by the CIA or the "legal" heavily taxed drugs like alcohol and tobacco. Silence about that.

Why didn't Bush buy up and destroy the poppy crop in Afghanistan when he had the opportunity to do so? Too much money to be made.

Hospital? Really?

For what? Ice cream?

if it's so addictive, then

if it's so addictive, then why are there millions of adults who smoked it as a teenager but don't anymore?

shouldn't they all be heroin addicts by now?

I am one of the "millions of

I am one of the "millions of adults who smoked it as a teenager but don't anymore?"

I gave this a thread, too.

It is a "reply" to this, but Bill Hicks seemed worthy of a thread of his own to me.
The "big scare" is over a couple pansies who couldn't handle thier brownie? I mean, no one should be slipped anything unknowingly, but would someone local like to call the hospital and ask how many kids they saw that week for prescription drug over doses, and how many of them were fatalities?
My audio card must be having problems. All I could hear was "I make a lot of money out of this rigged system, and I will lie and threaten everyone around me to keep it going."

This is the article that got my posting privileges revoked:

Yep, their problems have exploded!

They'll have to find another way to fund their private prison system, clean the highways, pay the cops and judges, buy their hitech toys, justify breaking into your house and terrorizing your family, shooting your dog and stealing your assets.

That of course is not to mention they will now actually have to fight crime instead..... something they're not familiar with!

If you can read this thank a teacher. Because it's in English thank a soldier!

Don't think they're not planning to address this "fiscal" issue!

With more tyranny

No one

should be surprised that the MSM would be the instrument of propaganda!

The whole story is just like all the crap I heard in school in the 70's...
"If you smoke pot, it will lead to heroin!"
Well I did smoke pot and I never did heroin!

“Children are more likely to become dependant when they start use early. Even if it’s an advertant use,” she said.

I don't like it anymore... What a load of MSM propaganda BS!

When Fascism goes to sleep, it checks under the bed for Ron Paul!

My niece went from pot to heroin.....

because heroin dealers hang out around pot smokers.
Does this then cancel out your comment as not true?

It is all about enforcing laws on the right group of people.
Heroin dealers should be locked up because they prey on people.
Pot smokers, like to have hangouts (at least this is the case in The Netherlands where pot is legal for already many years) and thus make themselves vulnerable to the heroin dealers.

I guess to much money is made with heroin to really prevent its use.

Niederland is not the US... Have you lived in the US? Can you make a real comparison?
You also have brothels where a pervert can go and have sex with a boy...

What a Crock!

"Oh boo hoo I might have to get a REAL job now! Whine whine whine. I can't bully innocent citizens over their pot smoking. I might actually have to start dealing with REAL crooks now. That's scary!" Once again, WHAT A CROCK these people are!

I can't imagine how much

I can't imagine how much worse things would have been with any more time under prohibition. It's true it does confuse drug cops initially, so I'm not surprised by this response. They're just going to have to be confused for a while while the correction happens. Hopefully they'll be able to find real jobs now.

Again, no one has EVER

Again, no one has EVER died from marijuana. How funny of their automatic player to play a video of them getting excited over an oil field. How many kids are murdered over that stuff?

Actually, we don't know

we don't know because no one was keeping track.. there were no studies, no real studies... they never wanted to dispute the money tests.. DUI could be anything..

Cannabis is not for everyone, and for some, who are so unfortunate to only be able to get a sative or an indica but not the right variety for their receptors to help with their sleeping or eating.. some folks get fat, lazy and wind up losing teeth as tests are beginning to show that marijuana tar is hard on the gums, especially when the smoking is combined with sweet snacking and lack of personal hygene.

Oh come on Granger, losing teeth!

This is not meth we are talking about here Granger. You're taking a stereotype and sensationalizing it which only feeds into the propaganda. From someone that lives in this great state, and smokes daily, I object. The fact is that tar stains your teeth and that's it. Poor hygiene is poor hygiene. Laziness is laziness, and bad food choices are just that. I know plenty of people in the alternative health community who've been smoking regular (myself 19yrs). I've spilled more weed over a year than most would smoke in their life and my teeth aren't falling out, my gut isn't protruding, I'm fit and healthy. Are you sure your not taking about fat, lazy beer drinking fools (the Coors light domestic fan type)?

My experience working in a dispensary as a therapist opened my eyes to a whole world of hurt. The people who had poor hygiene and were losing teeth had some serious life trauma- often sexual and physical traumas, they were victims of neglect during their childhood; thus most were suffering from an undiagnosed or untreated mental conditions, and usually addicted to opiates and other pharmies. This was like 10-15% of my clientele. 10-15% were younger stoners with no real motivation for anything. The rest were people with legitimate diseases and pain syndromes.

I remember when they were saying that most of the MMJ patients were males in their 30s. I remember thinking to myself -duh!! In Colorado we have a very active community. All sorts of dangerous activities that young men are attracted to: snowmobiling, snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing, off-roading, atvs.... You get my point-

Here are four cases that will always stand in my memory working at a dispensary-
The first is a young boy, 21, ankylosing spondylitis. He received great benefits from medical marijuana and turn his mom onto it who was also suffering from pain caused by her disease (genetic).

The third was a man suffering from anorexia, depression, and chronic pain. I didn't even want to touch this guy cause he was filthy. I'm a professional though and after hearing his life story how could you let poor hygiene get in the way of compassion. Heroine addict, homeless, smoked cigarettes, dirty teeth, body, hair, filthy! Dirt would just rub right off. He was abandoned as a kid, grew up in an foster care and was repeatedly abused, fled, became addicted to drugs and at 6' he weighed a whopping 120lbs.

As he fought his battle, I watched him put on weight, get straight in his head, treat his heroine addiction, decrease the pharmies to almost nothing, he started bathing and taking better care for himself, and was a phenomenal artist. I mean phenomenal!

Finally, 30 male, went skiing for the day. Jumped off a cliff (so fun), did a flip and landed on his head, broke his neck at odontoid process. I told him he should be dead. He said that's what doctors told him- how he was not paralyzed I'll never know. Here's his story: after breaking neck on the drive home he was holding his neck together with his hands. He said he smoked all night long and passed out in his lazy boy with his hands on his neck. Next day, he couldn't even move a millimeter. Went to hospital, neglected surgery, smoked a shit ton of herb, and it healed. The dude still extreme skis to this day. Chronic pain for sure, limited range of motion but he's happy he still does what he loves. I personally believe the herb decreased his inflammation which improved his outcome.

God Bless God's Medicine!

yep losing teeth

Yep 267K articles about it http://www.google.com/search?q=marijuana+smoke+periodontal+d...

I'm not a doctor and I'm not going to pretend that I am, nor am I a reasearcher, so I am not saying I have the answers.. however.. if it sounds too good to be true it's because it's probabaly not true applues to medical marijuana. I'm not saying I'm opposed to medical marijuana.. I'm saying I don't believe it is the best medicine on earth or harmless to everyone.. t'm not agreeing with the drug war or the drug laws.. but if I had my choice between smoking a joint and a shot of novocaine to pull a tooth,, I'm going for the novocaine,

The link is simply not brushing teeth at night. That's the link Granger. The story can not be taken seriously since it claims that chronic users have respitory issues. In a recent study, like within the last month, it was published that chronic cannabis smokers had no pulmonary deficts over time. In fact, tabacco users are at the greatest risk. Smokers who consume both cannabis and tabacco had some pulmonary deficits but were also significantly less than strictly tabacco smokers.

I'm with you on the pulling a tooth thing though. I'd never smoke a joint to extrapolate a tooth. I'd use novocaine like yourself, but would supplement the cannabis for any prescription opiod which my dentist might prefer. Cannabis does real well with non-acute, and low-high chronic pain.

I'll one up you though. God forbid either of us will get cancer, I'll choose the one gram of hash oil a day over the chemo and radiation. I might be sleeping for 90 days but in time I will be healed rather than cooked or cured with radiation.

I don't know something about killing everycell in my body indiscriminately that doesn't really sit well. Hey, to each their own. God Bless you Granger.

I am a cancer survivor, my Mother didn't fair as well and refused cannabis, my father also refused cannabis and survied three recessions after Chemo.

Sorry about that link,.. it was just a Google about cannabis and periodontal disease.

I'll continue to fight for people's choice to use cannabis for medicinal purposes, though it would not be my choice.
