What is your favorite music/band/artist?

Ive been a member for over 5 years now. One thread I can't remember seeing posted was asking who our favorite artists are. We are a super creative bunch and Im sure our tastes in creativity reflect it.

Please name, link or describe the artist that is your favorite. Please don't limit it to one kind. Name your favorite visual artist, video maker, sculptor, musician, lyricist... song writer.

Ill give you an example:

Visual: Glenn Barr. Younger guy from Detroit. His art has a Detroit feel. Dark and menacing but still playful and fun. http://glbarr.com/

Music: Brother Ali. An albino hip hop MC from Milwaukee. He wrote the most powerful anti-government song Ive ever heard. This is his video 'Uncle Same Goddamn' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OO18F4aKGzQ

Do one, two.. three.. lets just share some of our favorite artists!! Im curious and excited to see what the DP community likes.

Boyce Avenue has been my favorite band for a few years now. They're primarily a cover band with an incredible talent for taking great songs & making them sound even better: http://www.youtube.com/user/boyceavenue/videos?flow=grid&sor... (they have nearly a billion views of their videos on YT).

So many great artists/bands out there but right now my favourite has to be Muse. Amazing arrangements and from the lyrics you can tell that Bellamy is definitely awake. Also saw them about a month ago and hands down the best show I have ever seen! Supremacy, Uprising, Resistance, MK Ultra...

Yeah, they are awesome!

Uprising is my favorite! Hits home for us all, eh?

PS I'll throw in a Red Herring

....Dean Reed lol

Old and New...

I'll take Jerry Day!

After that Jerry lays it straight without music:

Oh and that Brother Ali tune was the business!

Good Tip!

on Jerry Day - I've got lots of Day relatives, maybe
he's some shirt-tail cousin or something.

Checked his videos on smart grids and the evils
of out of control EMR exposure, too - very well presented:

Oh yeah Jerry's the man!

Love his videos! And he's a very funny dude in person too!

My favorites are...

The Clash
Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros
The Pogues
Sex Pistols
The Ramones
Shane MacGowan
The English Beat

Gentle Giant

above all other favorites for me!

They cut a record in '74 called "The Power and the Glory", which is a concept album about politics / politicians.

It's GREAT! Complex yet solidly rockin' art rock, brilliant instrumentation and grooves, tight and crispy production, and the lyrics simply nail the rise and fall of a politician (complete with an attempt to return even after disgrace). (I've often wondered: if it was based on a real politician of the time?)

The track names say it all:

So Sincere
Playing the Game
Cogs in Cogs
No God's a Man
The Face

What would the Founders do?

Robin Trower

Compared to Jimi Hendrix by many.IMO soooo much better/different.

bands: Heart, Boston, Creedence, Rush (to name a few).
female: Sara Groves
male: Andrea Bocelli
instrumental: Chris Botti and Yo-Yo-Ma
modern composer: Ennio Moricone
classical composer: Bach and Vivaldi
artist: Claude Monet and Andrew Wyeth
