What is your favorite music/band/artist?

Ive been a member for over 5 years now. One thread I can't remember seeing posted was asking who our favorite artists are. We are a super creative bunch and Im sure our tastes in creativity reflect it.

Please name, link or describe the artist that is your favorite. Please don't limit it to one kind. Name your favorite visual artist, video maker, sculptor, musician, lyricist... song writer.

Ill give you an example:

Visual: Glenn Barr. Younger guy from Detroit. His art has a Detroit feel. Dark and menacing but still playful and fun. http://glbarr.com/

Music: Brother Ali. An albino hip hop MC from Milwaukee. He wrote the most powerful anti-government song Ive ever heard. This is his video 'Uncle Same Goddamn' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OO18F4aKGzQ

Do one, two.. three.. lets just share some of our favorite artists!! Im curious and excited to see what the DP community likes.

Well, I saw

that it was in Texas. Though maybe it was in your area. :)

After you raised

the subject of dance, here's the reason *why* I suggested dance lessons. It was looking for a dancing bigfoot that brought me to... dance lessons in Bigfoot, Texas! lol Ironic, huh? Anyway, now that I've had a tour of the Lone Star State, that hill country does look beautiful, also those national forests, all those pines. When I think of Texas, even though it borders Louisiana, I think of Oklahoma or New Mexico - the West, not the South; but those bayou cypress trees do look like LA or the Everglades. I see there are oil fields in E.Texas, too. I was thinking of Jumbalaya one second ago, but now suddenly this, from Local Hero? ("Victor" is a Russian oil guy who meets up with Texan oil guy "Mac" in Scotland.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkj9KViN_cA Btw, nice t-shirt, huh? http://fashionablygeek.com/t-shirts/bigfoot-vs-unicorn-the-b...

Is that BF playing

Jambalaya on the banjo? https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR-Pb8a...
Btw, checking out those national forests, I came upon an interesting E.Texas "fun fact." Seems it's one of the hot spots. No, I'm not talking about this. http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/top-25-american-hot... I'm talking about this. See Fauna, "The Piney Woods Region..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piney_Woods

When you say Jambalaya

Do you mean Zydeco music? Back in the day, in Louisiana, when the music was considered good music, people would say in french, 'That ain't green beans!' The french word for green beans is 'le sueur d'coeur' and somehow got shortened to 'zydeco'.

Not really

Interesting fun fact, but no, I'm not really inclined to say "That ain't green beans!" to zydeco - though I imagine if it's live and there's some large outdoor gathering it could be fun (for a short time). Guess I had in mind the country & western I heard a lot of on the radio growing up, namely, as Jambalaya is concerned, Hank Williams. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnKOVPXhlnE Looking for it, I came across this great Dixieland version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdzgS9xgHu8 (Raised on that, too.)

Not sure what it is

Guess it's the beat I don't connect with for some reason. It's not the accordion. I like accordion music I'm aware of, like this German folk tune or the French song from the film Amelie or this song by Calexico that reminds me a bit of a circus and/or Fellini.

Ya live and learn.

Space rock. I did like the visuals for one of the clips. Gotta love those fractals! As to the music, um... There were some interesting effects, and I liked the live performance better than the clips above that; but I don't, in general, love synthesized music. Yes, yes, call me a hypocrite when I just finished saying I played the daylights out of ELP. I did, however prefer the eponymous album over Tarkus (never acquired Picture At An Exhibition). But even with ELP, my favorite songs were those w/vocals (though some had long instr. interludes) or, at least, had something of a recognizable tune - defined as something that, later on, you'd be able to hum a bit such that would differentiate one song from another. Now maybe you can do that w/OzricTentacles! If so, you're a better man than I (so to speak). It's not that I only like vocal music. Do you know of these two? Mickey Hart Planet Drum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUWzeJ8NA_E Or Zoolook http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoolook Now you'll really call me a liar! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAL0Nh2lgzE

You know, I wasn't

trying to be funny, there. I googled "Lee Presson and the Nails youtube" and went down the list, clicking one after the other video listening to a few bars. When that came on, it totally took me off guard. I couldn't stop laughing.

Maybe you already know them, but if you like LPN, you might like Squirrel Nut Zippers. This is just a guy covering my favorite song of theirs, Hell, but I love it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obUCe6rJ24g&feature=related Here's SNZ with another good one, "Put A Lid On It." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdAt4qWvz_8

The day I discovered the official Lindy Hop competitions, my face hurt from smiling nonstop through... many! Too bad the lighting on this isn't better. It's from some competition in France, my #1 favorite Dixieland jazz song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPxh91XPsv8

I like this version of Put A Lid On It

ignore the anti-right wing images in the background and listen to the lyrics (as rewritten by Rickie Lee Jones).
