BBC Trying to serve search warrant to householder without TV License

Is my understanding that this is the way BBC "independence" is funded, by extorting money from people owning a TV.

Engish TV

When I got my 1st job at 16 (1975), the first thing I bought for our family was a color TV and a license (the license costing me a good portion of my pay if I recall). A black and white TV was all my parents could afford because of the licensing costs for color. When I asked my Dad what the license was for he said it was top pay for the BBC TV stations which were commercial free with very crappy programming for a 16 year old. I told him I didn't want to buy the BBC channels because they sucked - he correctly told me I had to - this was first lesson in Government over-reach and propaganda arms used by the Government.

We had 2 BBC channels and 1 Independent station (with commercials) - we basically had no need for a remote control.

When I came to Canada families had 3 and 4 TV's in their house, all color with 30 channels to choose from. No license but a cheap cable bill and we got to watch all those shoot-em-up TV shows where 10 or 15 people were shot in every episode

When I clicked on this article the page shook violently and a message scrolled almost too fast to read down the left side of the page. Anyone know what this was?

A while back I read about

A while back I read about this TV/monitor tax there. Maybe someone who lives in the UK can chime in. Apparently you have to pay an annual tax for each television or monitor (including computer monitors) that you have in your house.

You only have to pay the tax

You only have to pay the tax if the monitor has a tv tuner built in, but yes, you have to pay an annual license PER TV in the house.

They have something similar in Germany which also includes radios.

This is an amazing demonstration on how to deal with "authorities" that try to intimidate and manipulate you into consenting as well as the distinctions between civil law vs. criminal law. Everyone ought to study up on this subject matter as our own system has become a convoluted mess that hardly anybody has the ability to navigate anymore.

I very much appreciate the post.

UK looks safe

In the USA depending where you are. they may shoot you dead.
If a cop's wants to say he though he heard something.
Guns drawn and bang you may be dead.
Patriot act your rights in the USA are gone!

UK may have more right's than US anymore.

And lets say Grandma hid a bunch of money under the bed for the last 20 yr's.

They would then take it.
Because its cash must be drug money right?

They came for our FM broadcasters. I did not care, for I was not one. I was a writer.

They came for our pirate radios. I did not care, for I was a book publisher.

Now they come for our talking picture boxes! Ha! Wrong address. Return to sender.

When they come for my Victrola, she... my Victrola... loaded w/ Andy Britt on Wurlitzer Organ & I shall meet them at the door... armed & prepared. They will be stunned by the beauty. Arrested by the power. Take a listen...

Words by Addy Britt (Andy Britt's words are silenced in this broadcast)
Music by Ted Fio Rito
Performed by Jesse Crawford on the Wurlitzer Organ (for your pleasure, you can image your own kiss)

The following linked newspaper article appeared in the March 21, 1930 edition of The Evening Independent from St. Petersburg, Florida. It's a glimpse at how Crawford was portrayed by the radio network publicist at the top of his career.

This is a must for Victrola enthusiasts.

Proper names

Everyone needs to refer to BBC and CBC as "state owned media". Reporters often use this derogatory term when they refer to CCTV, to suggest to the viewer a bias exists, even though their own organizations are no different. They don't even have the veneer of independence their US equivalents such as CBS, Fox, and NBC have.

Usage example:

"Canada's state media outlet, CBC, vows 'fresher' style of journalism"

This kind of stuff is constantly coming out:

The Telegraph would never publish anything describing BBC that way. Neither would PBS, unless relations between the leadership of the US and UK soured considerably. Then the mud would fly!

no fourth amendment rights in Englund

maybe some British DP members

maybe some British DP members can tell us more about this, I think you have to pay over $200 a year to the state if you have a TV and the money goes to BBC (???) and, not sure if true, when you buy a TV you automatically pay a "licensing tax", again, not sure if true or rumors.
Maybe someone from UK can explain how the scheme works...

PS: unreal how polite everyone is in the video, in US the homeowner will be tasered, beaten and arrested.

Actually in USD its closer to $250.00 per year. Cheaper if you have a black white. If you think you will use a pc to watch instead, then you have to pay the license fee in that case too.

Many people don't. They may "get away" with it for quite some time. But the vans are real. They do go down streets and look for live signals. They ten verify that a license exists, if not, the letters start.

I find this all very strange.

What about TV towers?

p.s. Maybe it is to discourage people from watching too much TV? :P

It is weird isn't it, like a mild 1984.

No it's not to discourage people it's to pay for the BBC's bloated budget. Most people pay and enough think it's worth the money.

If they wanted to discourage people the government wouldn't have instigated the switch to digital radio signals. Adding tens of channels (pretty much all commercial ones) for more brainwashing.

If the the detector vans are real (it's widely believed they aren't) they don't patrol they just have a list of all the house holds who've paid and snoop on the ones that haven't assuming they've a T.V...

Think this KIND of thing can't happen here?

This seems ridicules to watch and at first I thought it was some spoof or something. My first reaction was how unbelievable the whole thing is but it is apparently true. Then I thought for a microsecond of how that wouldn't fly over here. LOL What an idiot I was for that micro second. Think this KIND of thing can't happen here? Too late.

The Obamacare MANDATE is the same thing whereas the government is the strong arm that forces people to buy a product. At least in the end if these guys prove they don't have the receiver in question then they don't have to pay but here it makes no difference if you use the healthcare system or not, you still have to pay.

At least their cops didn't kill them for resisting.

This could backfire.

Making the sheep pay for their brainwashing was stroke of evil genius. However, if they also tax it, some may stop watching.
These guys do pretty good sticking up for their rights. It is truly mind boggling to think a TELEVISION is contraband. The miracle of criminalizing the mundane... Merry Christmas!

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

See it started off in 1948's when that was the only channel...

so what else would people watch on a T.V back then? Yet once they get a foot in the door... They don't take it out.

Excellent job by these

Excellent job by these Brits.

How bizarre was that? I can't imagine someone

coming to my door demanding to search for TVs!

If you had asked me 15 years ago....

I would have thought government agents sticking their hands down our pants at the airport would be unimaginable. Arresting farmers for the type of seeds that they use or the type of milk that they sell would have seemed bizarre. Receiving traffic citations from private companies operating video cameras would have been unimaginable. ....and I could go on.
