How Ron Paul Supporters Almost Took Over the Republican Party of Miami-Dade County

Catch Sunshine State News' exclusive story on how libertarian-leaning conservative supporters of 2012 presidential candidate Ron Paul almost took control of the Miami-Dade County Republican Party Tuesday night -- losing the chairmanship by just two votes.

Self-styled "liberty activists" were elected the county party's vice-chairman and treasurer, and somewhere between 48 to 51 of the Miami-Dade GOP's 128 or so district committeepersons are reportedly "hard-core" Paul supporters.

These local gains by the Republican Party's libertarian wing are the fruit of a months-long stealth campaign that came to public light only Tuesday evening.

This is what happened.

A few liberty supporters were disqualified prior to the election. According to committee rules you must be a registered republican for atleast one year prior to election day and you must file a party loyalty oath in a 4 day window in June.
If not for these rules that some were not aware of these indidviduals would have been seated and the outcome different.

The transition from a movement with a leader to one where we all are leaders is exactly that. A transition.
Many of us have never run for office or been active. This is all so new. For as much as I am dissapointed that we did not win all the executive seats, I am more proud of how involved we are and how much we have accomplished. Nearly a third of the committee are confirmed liberty minded individuals. :) :)

The future is bright. We just have to stay involved, the Truth is on our side.

Miami Dade County Republican Executive Committee

Awesome post

I'm sure I can speak for all the RP Republicans on my committee, and in the Northern CA.. we are proud of YOU!! God Bless America!

Overall though, great news.

Overall though, great news.

Sounds like you have a good number of people involved. I hope you get more growth.

good news

this is good news overall. The truth is that the GOP is hanging on by a thread all around the country. It will not take much to over-run them with a little bit more effort. Call, call, call, call CALL CALL! Supporters to come out on important county dates/votes. Show them this article and tell them that around the country we are taking over but we need everyone to come out. It is about persistence and perseverance!! We will win!

Miami being one of the most "classical liberal" towns in the USA

One of my favorite places in the world (especially Miami Beach)...and indeed an American city that attracts people from all over the world.

People there are "live and let live" mentality.

Makes sense that the Ron Paul supporters were busting at the seams ready to take over. Good for them!

Time to INVESTIGATE the investigators of 9/11. PROSECUTE the prosecutors. EXPOSE the cover-up.

What's the saying???? Almost

What's the saying???? Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. How do we lose by 2 votes???

Not Showing Up

Article said 42 of the 51 Paul Committee members showed up. How do you win? Most of the time it's just by showing up. 9 didn't show.

In LA County, A Paul supporter also lost the race for the chair by 2 votes.

The question is: How do we get the Liberty Movement to show up?

The answer: You must call them at least three times, including on the day of the meeting.

The real take of it, we must change the Liberty Movement from being just a movement to being a Political Force.

I believe the way to do this is by winning elections to both legislative, executive and party positions thru the Republican Party. We must leverage the movement by getting people to show for critical votes.

Just winning seats is not enough. We must unite the party around conservative constitutional priciples like Rand is doing. A divided party has no power. We must be taking the fight to the statists in the Democratic party and not fight among ourselves.

Bump to remember for future communicado.
