Doomsday Rumors Prompt More Than 30 Michigan Schools To Close Early For Holidays

More than 30 Michigan schools closed for the holidays two days early because of doomsday rumors, NBC News reports.

"Given the recent events in Connecticut, there have been numerous rumors circulating in our district, and in neighboring districts, about potential threats of violence against students," Lapeer County superintendent Matt Wandrie wrote in a letter to parents.

"Additionally, rumors connected to the Mayan calendar predicted end of the world on Friday have also surfaced."

Could this be a subtle attempt to legitimize the fear? Rumors of more violence? If Sandy Hook was a lone crazy, what would spawn these rumors? Are they subtly promoting Dec. 21st into the "night of the crazy’s"?
