NRA calls for 'armed security' at every school

USA Today: WASHINGTON -- National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre said Friday that future school shootings like the one in Newtown, Conn., one week ago can only be prevented if schools have armed security guards, just as the Secret Service protects President Obama.

Guns were not to blame for the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 20 children and six adults last week, LaPierre said. "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with gun," LaPierre said at the news conference that was interrupted twice by anti-gun activists.

"Politicians pass laws for gun-free school zones," LaPierre said. "They issue press releases bragging about them. They post signs advertising them. And in so doing, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are their safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk."

NRA

I think this actually is the National Recovery Act ;)

donvino

Better speech...

I, Wayne La Pee Pee, after exhaustive deliberations with the Obama Administration and Congressional leaders, have agreed to the following gun confiscation plan, as the answer to gun violence in America. Congress has appointed a Multi-National Joint Task Force, to immediately commence the door-to-door confiscation of assault weapons in America.

The first task Force will begin operations News Year's Eve in West Virginia, led by Attorney General Eric Holder, and shall be comprised of the following assault weapons experts:

Sen. Dianne Feinstein
Piers Morgan
Michael Bloomberg
Mark Potack
Sen. Frank Lautenberg
Rahm Emmanuel

We wish them well in their mission and in fulfilling their life-long dream.

Thank You, and God Bless America.

Let the schools decide locally how to handle security

Schools should be able to decide how to handle security. If the NRA wasn't a bunch of tools for the state, they would be pushing for the end to governemnt mandated gun free zones. More freedom is the answer, not more control.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

-C. S. Lewis

And the correct answer is:

And the correct answer is: Home schooling.

Schools are inefficient, dangerous and turn out students who are more stupid than when they went in.

The NRA wants this country to turn into

a POLICE STATE!

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." (Dr. Seuss)

could you explain why you

could you explain why you think this is the case?

I watched the NRA CEO's

I watched the NRA CEO's interview on meet the press and now I see it. Armed gov agents in all the schools is very police state like.

In my opinion, more in line with the american tradition would be allowing concealed carry by teachers who are trained and willing to do so. Then there would be people right in the right place at the right time who have the most vested interest in protecting all involved.

Wouldnt cost anything either = bonus.

For one, they want the

For one, they want the government to keep a record of people suffering from mental illness.

I think to some people this may have, at first glance, some sense, but think about how this would be implemented:

If you go to a psychiatrist, you get put on the list --> people won't seek the help they need

Only put on the list if you have already committed a crime --> would not have prevented the recent tragedy, plus people who are convicted of crimes are already recorded, so all this does is stigmatize people with mental illness

The whole thing just reeks of a way for the government to stigmatize either perfectly benign people with mental illness, or people who it doesn't like for other reasons. Imagine trying to run for office against someone if they put your name on the 'mental illness list'.

NRA: "Hurry, Give Us More Government!"

NRA:

"Hurry, Give Us More Government!

We don't represent gun owners. We lie to them.

We just take their money and work against their interests.

We partner with police unions and government in an attempt to peddle and sell influence within the establishment."

The NRA are just paid actors shilling for bigger government

The proof is in their position. One guy with a single gun in the school wearing a uniform, guess who the shooter's first target is going to be? As opposed to several or many concealed carry individuals going about their business. Guess what, a shooter won't know who's carrying! Isn't that the point, to gain some tactical advantage over a psychopathic killer? As other posters have pointed out, the NRA position is simply justification for "TSA in the schools", perish the thought!

Now imagine that every wanna be cop in the country who could not pass the academy, every gypsy cop who can't keep a job due to his erratic and violent behavior, every combat vet from Iraq or Afghanistan suffering from untreated PTSD because the VA kicked them for some bogus premise, every convicted felon who learned his weapons training on the streets, all these folks are now armed and trolling the halls filled with children. We've all seen videos of the "resource officers" harassing students.

Somehow armed citizens who volunteered to CC, peaceably going about their business, never even enters their mind as a solution. Bastards.

As the NRA is want to do,

As the NRA is want to do, this is probably an actual 'attack' on Gun rights. They'll likely be pushing this as a 'compromise' to gun control advocates to ignore the issues of Gun-free zones and the laws already broken.

Besides, This sounds more like TSA and 'a cop on every block' than the idea of actually arming the teachers and faculty. It'll probably be used as an excuse to 'debate' against those of us who are truly for gun rights. The average person thinks that's what us '2nd amendment' nuts want and will accuse us of being 'unsatisfied' with this shitty offer.

I think you mean "wont"

Question:
Who were the "protesters", who were allowed into this press only event?
Seriously. ID's were checked at the door. Do you think "they" don't know who Tighe Barry is?
LoL It was a good show.

"...asked him how he got inside a press-only event in the first place.

“Magic,” he said. “Trickery.” And then without saying goodbye, he picked up a bundle of 2-by-4s and ambled away."

Yeah, that seems to be right.

Yeah, that seems to be right. I know I heard 'I am want to do" years ago, but of course it's not every day vocabulary for anyone.

he wants tsa at schools

The government created the TSA to fight back against airplane violence. So far they have not caught a single terrorist but they have gotten very good at molesting children. I don't want to see the same "solution" implemented at our schools. I don't want strangers feeling my children's private parts while they check for guns. That's their solution.

Gee-Whiz, Oh Great Wayne La Pee Aire...

Just the kind of nation of free-individuals and sovereign states that our founders envisioned...one where armed agents of government are stationed everywhere.

I think I will pass, you collectivist-government enabling-weasel.

Insanity

I want TRUSTED people at the school to be armed--that means teachers, administrators and parents. Not minimum wage rent-a-cops. Schools need to keep out guards, not invite them in.

NRA is totally out of touch as always, not looking out for the armed citizen, ever.

Take back the GOP and Restore America Now.

Exactly.

While many people believe that Police Officers and Private Security workers have some sort of special training, the truth is that you cannot have someone in every room all the time.

It is my belief also that when things hit the fan who will defend those children? Parents, teachers, and the administrators as you just said whom likely will have been training for just such a situation.

"Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books...Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: 'I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't. I can. And my children will."

I lost all respect when NRA started issuing Credit Cards

The NRA is the other side of the big money / big government coin. Promoting a totalitarian state is their answer. Great.

Gun Owners of America

gets my support from now on.

From the viewpoint of someone who's work at a school

One of those schools had an armed officer paid by the school district. It would be MUCH safer and economical to have concealed carry participants (not mandatory... to each their own on that point). One person cannot cover one campus. We would go into lock down, and most of the time it would take around 15 minutes to even get to an actual locked down state. There are too many entry points in most school buildings, even at that, for one person to cover. If there had been an inside intruder, it could take around ten minutes for that one "guard" to get to the area that was involved.

I've got a swiming pool and 3 little kids

I think putting a life guard on duty at every pool would be a better use of resources. I haven't checked the statistics, but I think the odds of death at a swimming pool is greater than at a school.

Thanks for going FULL RETARD NRA!

Apparently someone in the NRA didn't get the memo that the Mayan Apocalypse was cancelled.

God I hate these idiots...what a ridiculous response. No wonder gun-rights are disappearing with ignorant tools like Wayne LaPierre making asinine speeches.

Suggesting that schools already burdened by incredible shortfalls in their budgets could possibly afford security is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. Oh, and hello Mr. Security guard: you're officially target #1 now so make sure you clean that uniform and give the shooter a clear shot.

We could have finally had a talk about how 'gun-free' zones are fish-barrels for nut jobs, or maybe the right of a teacher to defend the lives of his students, or maybe that crime rates have been plummeting in areas that allow concealed carry. But no, instead we get this typical NRA Fascist bunk about turning schools into prison-camps to keep kids 'safe.' I swear this country is going to suffocate from 'security professionals' like those baby gropers at the TSA. When will we figure it out?

Thanks for going 'full-retard' for us Wayne. Please keep your mouth shut next time.

P.S. Oh and don't ever expect me to join the NRA, my money goes to the GOA from now on.

"Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books...Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: 'I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't. I can. And my children will."

-Jimmy Stewart

full retard?

Have you considered that his intent may have been for you to weigh that option and find this very conclusion?

It would be more economical and sensible to simply repeal the gun free zone law and allow willing teachers and administrators to CCW.

I think that letting the

I think that letting the teachers be armed would be the best solution but having an armed guard is a step in the right direction. The guards need to be employees of the school though, not police officers. We do not want our children subjected to illegal searches and arrest on a daily basis. The sole mission of the guard needs to be to protect the children, not arrest them. I am sure glad that they came up with some kind of a plan other than banning assault rifles.

Victim Number 1

So the shooter just has to wait to pull his gun out until he finds the security guard. Then he takes his gun out and he shoots the security guard first, that way he knows everyone else in the school is an unarmed target. Yes this seems like it will work perfectly. In fact, we should probably just put a sign next to the security guard that says "Victim Number 1"

Free market capitalism isn't right for America because it works better. It's right because it's free (and it works better).

Hired private armed security

Hired private armed security or armed teachers sounds reasonable but having state, federal or local police is a horrible idea. How long before they abuse their power and start illegally searching and abusing children? This sound to me like the Hegelian Dialectic: Problem, Reaction, Solution. All part of the police state plan.

This is an authoritarian way

This is an authoritarian way of thinking. We will arm them. Concealed carry is the responsible position. We will defend ourselves and our students. The motivation is key. If you allow teachers the freedom to conceal carry, the teachers will not only be compliant, but train themselves and be on the scene of an incident. I can just imagine a fat security guard with a weapon and the costs involved with training. An adult carrying is the best because also they are not in uniform, marking themselves, and they are already in the classroom with the students and they probably know the other teachers better and can prepare themselves and not fire carelessly out of duty but out of personal responsibility. I trust the individual who feels called to do this because that person will have gone through the mental preparation and practiced for that purpose of defense, whereas the police officers and security guards not so much.

Natural extension for TSA

A lot of us see the Sandy Hook incident as a reason why government would promote to implement gun control (be it actual planned conspiracy or 'not letting a tragedy go to waste').

But it could be used to promote expanding TSA/DHS agents to the roughly 100,000 schools we have.

That would be a dandy way to condition the next generation of citizens to be use to walking under martial law. Twice a day during 15 developmental years, children get to pass through a government check point with some person in a uniform, gun, cap'n crunch epilets etc., showing paperwork, maybe putting their lunch box through the screening device, etc.

Currently consuming: Gatto: "Underground history of education..", FDR; Wii U; NEP Football

This is exactly their

This is exactly their plan. They want us to want more security. We are headed for a total police state.

I doubt this will happen.

How much would an on-duty officer in every school cost? Just one.

Unless I am mistaken, for anyone else to be exempt from federal gun free zone law when discharging a firearm, the federal gun free zone law must be repealed or nullified.

edit: I believe there are exemptions to allow for armed self defense, however I have acquaintances who claim to have been advised (possibly in error) otherwise by their attorneys.
