Argentinians rioting and looting grocery stores

Deadly wave of looting hits Argentina
At least two killed as looters raid supermarkets in unrest stemming from wave of anger over president's administration

Looters have broken into supermarkets in several Argentine cities, leaving at least two people dead in the ensuing chaos and stirring memories of the country's devastating economic crisis 11 years ago.

"There are elements in Argentina that want to provoke havoc and violence and stain our holiday season with blood," national security secretary Sergio Berni said.

"Argentina is not the same as it was in 2001," he said, referring to the economic turmoil the South American nation went through.

Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to stop dozens of stone-throwing youths from looting a supermarket owned by French retailer Carrefour near the capital Buenos Aires, a day after the unrest erupted in the Patagonian ski resort of Bariloche

Violence spreads

Government officials condemned the violence and sent 400 military police to the southern city, where raiders stormed another supermarket owned by the local unit of Wal-Mart. Looters made off with flat-screen televisions and other goods.

"When you see that they're taking flat-screens, you know it's not hunger," said Daniel Scioli, governor of a Buenos Aires province and an ally of the president.

The violence spread to the central city of Rosario, where the two deaths occurred, and to the northern province of Chaco.

Argentina should be a lesson for the US, but instead

we are following in her footsteps.

In the early 1900's Argentina was one of the world's leading economies, right behind the British Empire and the US. But then a new President was elected on the platform of fundamental change. They instituted public pensions and health care. (Is this sounding familiar?) The long decline began to be accelerated when Peron came into power after WWII and taxed the wealthy 9Is this sounding familiar?)

The story of Argentina is the story of how collectivism and a state managed economy destroys prosperity.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

"The IMF has threatened the country with a "red card", meaning potential expulsion from the Fund and the G20, if it does not do more to produce reliable statistics on its inflation and GDP."

Arregentina Riot History ~ A long & winding road.

so many reasons to chose from. My first search lead to 13 million hits. I was overwhelmed. Hard to sort out all the causes. Such a troubled historical record.

I eliminated soccer(-soccer). That brought the results to a manageable 5 million hits.

Football? (-football -soccer) That brought the results to a manageable 4 million hits.

Next, I eliminated food (-food -football -soccer). That brought the results to a manageable 2,000 hits.

I wonder what could be the cause? Perhaps, if I eliminated water?

Bypasser: "Well, Volleyball, of course. Why ?"

Interviewer: "Seriously ?! But, I thought it was Football** !"

Bypasser: "Nah. Football is a religion over here, man."

Nomenclature note :

Looting your own

Looting your own neighborhood (not to mention, any neighborhood) is just dumb. It happened here in L.A. back in the "Rodney King" riots and some of the then affected areas still haven't recovered.
