Pledge

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace.

My pledge

My allegiance is to the once healthy nation that defended our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I wasn't there at the very beginning, but I hope that at least in it's infancy, our nation was honest and filled a proper role in people's lives, instead of working against people's lives. Maybe I'm wrong and it was never that way, but that concept is the nation that I pledge my allegiance towards. I find that now I am usually making a wish that this nation will overcome the cancer that has taken it over and that it makes a healthy recovery, while the rest of the people invoke an incantation of blind obedience to that same cancer.

Why would I...

Why would I pledge allegiance to a sociopathic gang of murderers and thieves?

I think a simpler and honst pledge would be:

I pledge allegience to the Constitution of These United and Sovereign States of America and to the Republic which it defines.(period)

With all due respect, I will no longer be a voting prostitute for Constitution rejecting harlots.

I pledge allegiance to myself...

because the government is unreliable and has done the same.

I refuse to say it

My parents taught me to pledge allegiance to those I care for. Nobody or nothing else.

As a wise woman (don't know her name) once said, "flags are pieces of cloth used to shrink-wrap minds".

Although, it is useful when I want to show others that we are NOT a Democracy, but a Republic. It doesn't say "to the Democracy, for which it stands", after all.

Exactly

symbol over SUBSTANCE

Whenever the pledge and flag worshippers start their mantra, I find myself reminded and in need of reminding folks that America is filled with folk sentimentally attached to symbols over substance again and again, and again ad- nauseum. You can find thousands easily who will cry foul passionately anytime someone degrades or burns the flag. But hardly even a whimper comes out of their mouths when The Constitution and or the Bill of Rights is degraded and nullified by our Federal Officers in Washington. I think it was intentional that this be so. The smoke and mirrors game continues to work to delude and deceive, sedate and seduce the populace, so they will pay no attention to matters of substance, and always be captivated by image-ry and symbolism. The Constitution is our written compact of our established Republic for the benefit of the several States and the peoples. I wish we had banners made with the Constitution printed on them, which I would fly above the stars & stripes on any day.

With all due respect, I will no longer be a voting prostitute for Constitution rejecting harlots.

As a Veteran...

United States Code, 36 U.S.C. § 301, states that during a rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present and not in uniform may render the military salute.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star-Spangled_Banner#Custom

You are never asked to renounce your Oath upon separation from military service.

I do not stand and place my hand over my heart, I render a military salute, with Boonie hat on at air shows or sporting events, (Firecracker 400).

Once again

Once again the federal government has no authority to pass legislation mandating that I do anything when the flag is displayed etc.

Thank you johncarter444, a question though-

Is not the OATH, all military and civilian officers take upon commencement of service, to the Constitution of The United STATES of America, not to the Star Spangled Banner, the United Nations or any other extra -constitutional entity? Also I noticed this statement on the Wikipedia site: { However, this statutory suggestion does not have any penalty associated with violations. 36 U.S.C. § 301 This behavioral requirement for the national anthem is subject to the same First Amendment controversies that surround the Pledge of Allegiance.[39] For example, Jehovah's Witnesses do not stand for or sing the national anthem.[40][41][42]}

With all due respect, I will no longer be a voting prostitute for Constitution rejecting harlots.

I just stand

When I am at a gathering and there is a flag salute, I just stand and say nothing. When someone asks me why I don't recite the Pledge, I tell them it was written by a socialist, was originally accompanied by the Roman or Nazi salute, evokes an invisible man in the sky, states that secession is impossible and that there is liberty and justice for all, when we all know that is a lie.

That usually shuts them up pretty darned fast.

I Like a Previous Version For Historical Reasons

"evokes an invisible man in the sky."

I like a previous version of the Pledge for historical reasons, (Red Scare caused a change.)

Not for me.

I will not embrace the notion that states cannot secede. That is the "indivisible" the northern socialist made sure was part of the Pledge.

"I pledge allegiance . . .

to liberty and justice for all. And eternal enmity to every form of tyranny over the mind of man." (a la Jefferson).

"Allegiance" is the duty a feudal serf owed to his liege lord. Pledging allegiance to the government is an acknowledgment of their RIGHT TO RULE your life, liberty and property.

Over my dead body.
