Rand Paul: Don't Start Foreign Aid Cuts with Israel

Well, Merry Christmas to Israel.

Senator Rand Paul says he is against foreign aid, but he apparently wants to cut off foreign aid in some kind of order.

The Kentucky Courier-Journal's James R. Carroll reports on an interview he had with Rand:

Paul said that foreign aid cuts “should start with countries who have not been good allies. ... I wouldn’t start with Israel.

“Whether or not we can afford to continue aid to Israel over time? There needs to be discussion with Israel over them being more independent over time.”

The article did not specify what specific countries Rand would cut off first and did not specify how Rand determines countries to not be "good allies."

Again I Say

Time will Tell what Rand is about.

Here's a radical idea...

...maybe Rand isn't "sucking at the pro-Israel teat," maybe he wants to cut foreign aid across the board but is aware that it is politically impossible to do so? Maybe he knows that an all or nothing approach will yield...wait for it...nothing! Maybe Rand knows he can get foreign aid cuts to Egypt or Pakistan passed in Congress, but could never get foreign aid cuts to Israel passed, and maybe he thinks the former are better than nothing? Maybe he knows that taking a good deal when the opportunity arises is preferable to holding out for the perfect deal that will never come? Maybe Rand's not as politically naive as many of his detractors?

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

Goodbye Rand

Of yeah, Rand is sucking at the pro-Israel, pro-war, rino teat. If he were honest and truly believed that foreign aid should stop then it should all end immediately. Not in any kind of order. It reminds me of a bandage that needs to be removed and removing it causes pain; you can do it excruciatingly slowly or you can just rip it off quickly and get it over with. And when it comes to foreign-aid, I say we should rip it all off at once and be done with it. It seems to that Rand is becoming more and more like a Faux News kind of republican and less like a Ron Paul republican with every passing day. But that is perfectly okay because now Rand has his good buddy and close friend Sean Hannity to take his side. Rand might get the republican party nomination, but he will lose because he is becoming more of an insider with every passing day. You just watch, it will happen.

It's obvious...

...Rand not only wants to run for President in 2016 but he wants to win. If he said "start with Israel," he may as well forget the idea.

At this point, he'll get my vote for sure. I'll even volunteer for his campaign.

If Rand came out for the elimination of foreign aid altogether, he'd be painted as weak on defense or an "isolationist." If he singled Israel out for foreign aid cuts, it'd be that plus charges of antisemitism, the kiss of death in American politics. Those who are criticizing Rand's stance on foreign aid are effectively demanding that Rand put himself in a position to be marginalized in the same way as his father. They want him to commit political suicide. Why? I want him to keep doing what he's doing: promoting the libertarian agenda in Washington without destroying his political future.

have I said "Time will Tell" when it comes to Rand?

Israel does not care

The situation is appalling to normal Israelies as it is now.

I. Israel is compensated by USA for not trading its technologies with Russia and China. Israel could earn more by trading with BRICS countries, but a) Israel wants to be a friend to USA (even though USA is not longer a model to copy); b) Israeli socialists prefer aid that goes via gov clerks rather than via private business. So, the bribe (aid) only grows socialism in Israel and makes it weaker.

II. Now, what USA does for Israel not trading with Russia and China? USA sells weapons and gives money to Israel's enemies. Nice, remembering that Jews created atomic bomb for USA.

It is time for Israel to refuse USA bribe to stand on its own feet. USA had lost its constitution and capitalism. Nothing to wait for here. But reality is not easy. Israeli Congress has 17 political parties. Therefore, CIA can manipulate elections to break coalitions since the biggest party cannot get more than 27% and coalitions are often 2-5% away from the opposition. PM (the head of the executive branch) is not elected directly but via a party that wins majority votes in Congress. Executive branch is always a coalition. Congress can disband the executive branch at any time with just 51% vote.

What If this is one big bait and switch

What if Ron Paul and Rand Paul have hatched up a plan.
What if Ron Paul runs again in 2016 and the whole Rand Thing is a red harring?
Bait an switch
The establishment is tripping over them selves to compromise Rand but its a Meir magic trick.
While they are over there we are over here.
This would be a good stratagum
It's like zombies if you send in the fat guy he can be the bate while the skinny guys slimmer in away to regroup.
Ron is over there and rand is over here.
Then the news breaks out that Ron Paul has just announce his plans to run again.
And rand is like haha bitches you loose.

Well... I think it will be a bit different

I really do think the two have 'conspired.' Obviously, we know Rand is his own man and his dad is in NO WAY 'calling any shots'.... that is just how Ron is.

I think the bait is that Rand will appear (and act) to be much more 'reasonable' in regards to foreign policy... the switch will come when he is Commander in Chief.

Of course... I've made some wild theories before that turned ridiculous in the end... so...

Rand: "The smartest Paul I know"

That is a quote from his brother Robert. Rand is incredibly smart... and he may just be a political genius. (You can see the video... Robert reminds me much more of Ron in his voice/mannerisms than Rand)

I tell ya, I'd rather have Ron than Rand... but I am not convinced Ron really ever wanted to win. He certainly never expected to win. (After re-reading... maybe Ron did want to - they really did make a genuine push in the early states - so, I retract that.)

It is painfully obvious Rand intends to be in the white house in 4 years.

I support him completely.

I Couldn't Agree More...

...if we're gonna cut foreign aid I would rather cut it from our enemies before our allies. That only makes sense.

We need to get an early start on 2016: Support Rand PAC 2016

the first commenter at EPJ asked:

"Good allies" in what?
In illegal wars?

America And Israel Have A Lot In Common...

... we are both capitalist Republics. We both allow freedom of religion. We both allow freedom of speech. You are going to respond to this comment by showing me all the posts where it shows all of the Liberties that are being undermined and I know all that. But we are way ahead of some of the Islamic countries when it comes to freedom. So I would say we are in a sense more of an ally with Israel then we are with most of the other Middle Eastern countries (in the sense of our similarities in our way of government).

I bet if the Israel-First crowd knew about all the Israeli spies that have been caught on US soil, they'd change their tune pretty quick.

I'm sick of this "allies" nonsense. They have done nothing FOR us, only things TO us. They sell our secrets, spy on us, have hundreds of lobbying groups, and demonize ANYONE who dare speaks about any of it.

THAT SAID, I don't view the average Israeli citizen in the same light I do their government, just as I wouldn't want to be judged based on the actions of the clowns in DC.

This is the best comment I've

This is the best comment I've seen in this thread. Obomba has hit the nail squarely on the head! This Israeli-First crowd of American Christian-Zionists traitors makes me sick. These people should be put up against a wall and shot by a firing squad.

The problem is

The United States is under contract obligation since ww2 to give money to isreal along with other nations.
Isreal is the only one that can break that contract.

He's a tool. Fuck him.

Here's a question that should be asked...

Why do we always have to BUY our allies?

not to mention

Israel is not a poor country!

USS Liberty = Israel good allies, so we should start with...

Switzerland, since they have never attacked us? OK, cut off foreign aid to Switzerland first, then Israel.

excellent point

Liberty seems completely forgotten. I support Rand, and see how he is playing politics, but this really bothers me. I hope he finally gets more than a foot in the door to the point where he can start laying the hammer down like his dad. Time will tell, i guess.
Ive been taught by my Lord that we will know false prophets by their fruit - stuff like this worries me. Rand has made a few bad apples.

Where to start?

Well if we're gonna do this thing fairly, let's go alphabetically and mark 'em off the list. I think Afghanistan is first up. Israel is a little farther down the line. They should come in somewhere in the mid 60's, right behind Iraq. Does that work for ya Senator?

"The rich man writes the book of laws the poor man must defend, but the highest laws are written on the hearts of honest men."

You know how lawyers and politicians are ...

... they'll say, OK let's go alphabetically ... and we'll start with the letter J.

If Rand actually said this, I

If Rand actually said this, I agree it would be the politically expedient thing to say. Also, I think there is almost no chance the US turns off Israel's foreign aid spigot in our lifetimes.

geeeze thats like 10 strikes

geeeze thats like 10 strikes in a row now... Just when I say alright ill support him because he is better than most... Then Idk if that is true

I think that's the smart

I think that's the smart approach myself as well. Cut off everyone we can right away. Naturally many think we should fund Israel's warfare. If we cut some off instantly without objection we should do it. And then work on cutting off Israel because that will obviously be a much harder battle to fight.
