Some accounts say Bush Sr.

Some accounts say Bush Sr. had a role in his assassination along with Lyndon Johnson.

Bush Sr. has had a hard time remembering where he was on

11/22/63

I've heard the CIA wasn't very happy with the Kennedys either.

Can someone provide more

Can someone provide more context for JFK's speech? I wish he had been more specific. I know some claim he was only talking about communism.

If he meant communism

He would have certainly said so.

If he meant communism, he would have talked more about free states, democracy, capitalism and the nuclear threat.

He didn't much talk in that direction at all.

he begins w/an anectdote about Karl Marx, mentions "cold war" 2x

.

"You underestimate the character of man." | "So be off now, and set about it." | Up for a game?

Yeah, teaches me to get the full speech with context

You are right in that regard.

Still, 'secret society'? Seems rather odd considering communism was bashed by name. By pretty much every politician as often as possible at that time.

Guess we'll never know for sure.

(doctored speech)

WOAH! Thanks Jon! I never knew that!

Everyone needs to listen to the full speech to see the actual context of the speech as JFK asking for MORE secrecy for government!

But what did these words mean in context?

"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations."

Considering that this speech came shortly after the Bay of Pigs incident that caused Kennedy to fire a higher up in the CIA. Isn't his why Kennedy said he would "smash the CIA into 1000 pieces"?

What is the "military industrial complex" that Eisenhower warned us of? Could it be the same as the "monolithic ruthless conspiracy" that's "dissenters are silenced, not praised"??

if you listened to the speech, you'd know.

If you don't like listening to it first hand, here's a full transcription:

I always wonder why some Republicans

Attack Kennedy. Some presidents like Reagan, Kennedy, Eisenhower rise above any sense of partisanship.
