Randall may not equal Ronald but...

Every person is an individual that is responsible for his or her own actions. The Pauls are no different. Rand Paul is not Ron Paul, and he should not be expected to mirror his father.

Many times and rather often, I have heard that most politicians are well-intentioned. This may or may not be the case for many of them, but I do believe that Rand Paul is well-intentioned, although I have openly criticized him in the past because I think he panders more than is necessary to stay in the graces of the GOP establishment and risks being labeled as a follower of men rather than a leader of them because of it.

As well, I believe Rand has been weak on foreign policy (probably as a tactic to avoid being pigeon-holed like Ron was by the neo-con propaganda wing of the media). Certainly in rhetoric and in strategy, Rand is not equivalent to Ron, but time will tell if his way will be more effective.

One thing is for sure, Rand is no longer walking in his father's shadow which can neither be labeled as good nor as bad. Rand is his own man.

All criticism aside, someone tell me who would be a better and more viable candidate to represent the agenda of the Liberty Movement for POTUS in 2016? I highly doubt that even if a more acceptable candidate became available that that candidate would be as viable for the simple reason of name recognition.

If given the option, I will likely vote for Rand Paul in 2016.

No one person will be the savior of Our nation. It will take effort from all of us. If we can agree on nothing else, we can probably agree that Rand Paul would at least be a step in the right direction.

I will still write in Ron Paul. I don't care if he is the least crappy. He's is still crappy. That was the entire POINT of the Ron Paul movement is NOT CHOOSING between two false choices.

"We do have some differences

"We do have some differences and our approaches will be different, but that makes him his own person. I mean why should he [Rand] be a clone and do everything and think just exactly as I have. I think it's an opportunity to be independent minded. We are about 99% [the same on issues]." Ron Paul

old post bump...

Since Rand is hot right now, I'd like to bump this.

To me

Rand realizes that he needs allies and connections so he has to play the game of politics; his father though he is a pure champion of liberty never played this game and could never get elected for potus. You just cant storm into a room full of scum and demand change you gotta play the game.

It is now down to this, at this moment - Paul vs. Rubio

Rubio is aping Paul in votes, but not on the crux of it all, which is the battle over the Keynesian vs. Mises theory of economics which will in turn affect the fate of the Federal Reserve, which will then in turn affect the fate of this country.

It is truly now a question of black or white.

Oh brother - it is 2013!

Obama hasn't even been sworn in yet for his second term. And it is "down to this?"

Cut it out with the drama. It is way, way too early .

There is no such thing as "black or white" in politics. Watch your hero Rand and you'll understand that.

allegory - ˈalɪg(ə)ri/ - noun - 1. a story, poem, or picture which can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one.

.

Rand Paul is much smarter then his father and I believe his father would be the first to agree.
The issue would be, I think- Rand has little experience and his much needed experience is coming from his fathers mouth to his own ear.
There is certainly an underlying reason Ron left congress at this time, I just cant figure out why.
Maybe it is to lend Rand his experience, which Rand is certainly smart enough to accept.
I think Rand has always been pt 2 of Ron's 1-2 punch.

"OH NO! He has a SON?" Neoconservatives and Liberals EVERYWHERE!

Rand Paul 2016

what do you mean

by "smarter."

.

rand understands new technology.
rand will get his hands dirty and play in the swamp.
rand will stand up and mock them to their faces.
rand will play poliics- where dr. paul shok his head and explained why he wouldnt.
rand is formally educated at his own expense, never borrowed or was allowed to accept a scholarship.
Smarter in ways that will allow him to win.
then he will listen to his father, listen to experience and judge whether or not it will play in todays game.
Ron Paul is the smartest man I know in Government- but rand is smarter in ways that ron paul wasnt. I know its a hard pill to swallow, but tis true. and hard for me to admit.
Ron is still my hero though and would chose him over rand in a NY second.
but rand is smarter and will play and has the time to develop where he is lacking and knows this.

Rand Paul 2016

smarter?

Rand, at best, is a gradualist, Ron a radical.

Where does gradualism get us? According to William Lloyd Garrison, "Gradualism in theory is perpetuity in practice."

The problem is that the media

The problem is that the media will spend the next 4 years praising and promoting Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, and maybe one or two others. Every time their name is mentioned it will be followed by "the likely GOP candidate", "the one most likely to win", "the one with the best odds against the democrats", and in Rubio's case, "the one who can pull in the Latino vote". Every time Rand's name is mentioned, there will be an equally disdainful tag attached, "appeals to very few", "no chance against the Democrats", "outside the thinking of most in the GOP", etc. I really believe the media can sway, lead, and cajole enough non-thinking sheep to elect whomever they want, they do it every time. If you think the next GOP primary will be decided on policy of the candidates, their stances on the issues, and their voting records, you have not been paying attention! Whoever the media decide to push is who will win, and they will NOT even give Rand a chance, that's a promise you can take to the bank! Only about 10% of the public THINK, and they/we will be maligned in the media.

The ONLY possible way that Rand has a slight chance is if we grow our numbers and manage to take over the GOP in 2014 or at least many of the states, but SO MANY are dropping out with disgust that we will likely have an even smaller presence in 2014.

Bumper stickers:

Remember the 2012 r3VOLution? Maybe you'll listen now.

r3VOLution continues.

We can't wait until election year. Elections take 2 - 4 years and they have already started. So have I.

Good post, and with a question concerning a core problem. That, so many are dropping out with disgust. What do believe is the cause or causes of that?

The way good honest, caring,

The way good honest, caring, people were treated, cheated, lied to, and steamrolled at the conventions etc.

wrong question

Ron Paul is our Gandalf. You are looking for a Boromir. We need a Frodo.

Rand Paul Vs The Judge

Rand would win.

did you miss

all those polls that were run here?

No

Who vetted the Judge besides MSM?

Ron Paul?

Am I the only one here who remembers Ron Paul saying the Judge would likely be his VP pick? Do you really think he would have said that if he didn't know all about the guy??

I never heard him say that

The Judge would not get my vote because he's on MSM... same with Ventura.. I don't own a TV and to me, if you have a program on TV, you are part of the problem.

I feel about MSM the way many feel about the GOP.. plenty of folks love what Ron Paul says, but they refuse to vote for a Republican.. I refuse to vote for a talking head.

yep, the judge

was the only one he ever considered. heard it myself, and IMO he would have been perfect.

I can help with that!

Thank you

No way I'm noting for a talking head on MSM..

Would you vote for a talking head if they talked at Mises?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sNWbiAMf80

Ron Paul and Lew Rockwell started The Mises Institute.

Judge Nap got fired from Fox news for speaking his mind.

The Judge is a good talking head, like Ben Swann, John Stossel, Milton Friedman...etc.

Nope

I'm not going to say never. The Judge or whoever may be a good talking head, I don't know because I don't watch, except an occaisional YouTube. I don't trust anyone in MSM. I understand many do, and that's ok too.

I'm confused now

I couldn't help but notice that you have recently posted a topic entitled "Draft the Judge" and in it you stated "Though I am backing Rand Paul, I welcome more voices and choices". I see how you will refuse to vote for anyone who has ever been fired from the MSM because he chose to stand firmly on his convictions in support of Ron Paul - and I completely respect your right to make your own decisions. I really, really do.

The part that confuses is me how you can say there is absolutely no way you could vote for the judge simply because he was on the MSM, but then also state you "welcome more voices and choices" and we should "draft the judge". I am genuinely interested to know how you are able to reconcile these two mutually exclusive ideas in your head.

Simple

There are more than one way to "skin a cat". I only joined the GOP because of Ron Paul, and now that I am seated in the GOP, and signed a loyalty oath,, I have a commitment. But DP is not a GOP blog, and many folks here, as much as they LOVE Ron Paul never joined the GOP, and seek an alternative. The Judge is a popular choice here. When I saw the "Draft The Judge" petition, I checked to see if anyone on DP had posted it. They had not. So I did. Why not?

It's not going to hurt me, and possibly will bring unity.

My issue with MSM is very deep.. I don't care if The Judge was fired.. it's ALL SHOW to me.. I understand for many who "tune in" it is reality.. but it's not GOP, so for me, it would take some convincing.

I would prefer if folks on DP joined the GOP and our rEVOLution within.. but that is not going to happen.. and I am not about my way or no way. If it was between Rand and The Judge,, I'm going with Rand.

Some encouragement

My father and I rejoiced watching the world news on CBS earlier as they reported this story. They actually reported the facts on the correlation between gun sales and gun crimes in California. Right on the 5:00 pm. world news on MSM plain ole get it on the antenna TV channel 5. I swear it really happened. I felt a small sense of comfort.....

Then they spoiled the moment showing a clip of an Afgan business owner saying how scared he was for our troops to leave, then more blah blah blah Obama blah blah blah War blah blah fiscal cliff blaaaaaaaaaahhhh.

I should probably sell my TV like you, but I am weak where you are not and find myself enslaved to the screen.

Here's the story
