Home Schooling Is Growing Even Faster

Three decades ago home schooling was illegal in 30 states. It was considered a fringe phenomenon, pursued by cranks, and parents who tried it were often persecuted and sometimes jailed. Today it is legal everywhere, and is probably the fastest-growing form of education in America. According to a new book, “Home Schooling in America”, by Joseph Murphy, a professor at Vanderbilt University, in 1975 10,000-15,000 children were taught at home. Today around 2m are—about the same number as attend charter schools.

Good News

Keep it going

Public school boards must not be too pleased. Does this mean there will be fewer BMWs in public school parking lots? lol

My wife and I are considering home schooling

as well. My wife being the main teacher of our little girl. Looking through curriculum's, home school groups etc. so we are feeling a little overwhelmed, nervous and excited all at the same time!

bump--

.

I thought the comment on this article was interesting, about how only in public schools are people 'forced' to associate with those they wouldn't normally associate with--

when I was in my young working years, I had few minority 'friends' in the workplace; all of my children who are now working have minority co-workers whom they consider friends--

and they were homeschooled; I think the person who made that comment has it all mixed up--

I have been so pleased to see how 'colorblind' my kids are--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Best thing we ever

did for our family. :-)

I am so glad to hear this

When I was homeschooled with my three sisters, the local news did a segment on us about our decision. My mother made it clear, she was not excited for the quality of education, nor the type of education, allowed to be given to children.

Today, I am in Graduate school for my Masters in Architecture... and sadly, there are many of my friends who have a strong inability of thinking on their own. Especially in Architecture school, where innovation is key, you find many students doing what they did to survive previous educational systems - copy and paste.

I am so thankful to have been homeschooled, to have been taught independent thinking, and to stand firm with my beliefs.

80% of what you learn in life is from home, no wonder public education hates competition.

They that give up liberty for security deserve neither.

We chose home schooling

We chose homeschooling many years ago. 2012 was our last year after educating and training three children. They were never in a government school. The oldest now is 25 our youngest is 18. They all out performed the locale school district's ACT 23 average score (26, 28, and 29) and that was done at a cost much less than their $12,000/student. Oh, of course our home school had top security also. The children were all well protected.

We highly recommend it though it's not for everyone. It's just a freedom solution which should always be allowed.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand.
And those who have not heard shall understand.

All I can say is
