House Debate and Vote on Fiscal Cliff

I thought there should be a Thread to discuss the Live debate and vote in the House on CSPAN today. I also think we should remind our friends and family that it is no coincidence that Congress chose to engage in such a massive undertaking on New Year's Eve and New Year's day. Moreover, all of the Representative's offices are closed because it is a Federal Holiday. This means you can't contact them with comments or opinions on how they should vote. I do suggest you leave your Representative a nice message about how you feel they should vote and why you believe it is shameful that they waited until today to take such action. Such a shameful process means that the Public has no opportunity to read the text of the legislation (157 pages) and opine to their representatives how they wish them to vote. This is a shameful process, regardless of what side you're on. Remember, our Congress had 2 years to fix this mess, and, instead, they kick the can further down the road. BE ACTIVE and GET INVOLVED.

It is maddening. They make these bills so convoluted that we do not know up from down anymore. If everyone under 250k is getting a tax cut what is all the bitching about? THat accounts for 98% of the people, does it not? How and where are the taxes being hiked up? If they are being hiked up on 75% of the public well then doesn't that negate the tax cut? This mess will end badly as we all know. I think their goal is to confuse the public until the inevitable and then claim ignorance. I don't think it will happen this time. We sure needed major spending cuts but that will never happen. I've had enough of these clowns in office. The level of sheer stupidity and incompetence has reached comical proportions.

The posting of the vote count seems to be delayed.

I don't see his vote, I thought he had most of this month to go.

Edit: He is there, on the "Not voting" list. I know it would make no difference, but I am curious why he did not vote. Anybody know?

National Security threat, why did we just increase it by $4 Trillion? Ask your friends this question, as logic and reason reveal the real problem and answer with this bill. The CBO has said that this Bill will increase the debt more than $4 Trillion over 10 years... tell me how that is good for the America People?

Does anyone find it odd that both Rubio and Cantor voted no on this "deal," without EVER having told us what they would cut? They wont cut the Pentagon budget, and certainly not aid to Israel. What will they cut? SS? SS has nothing to do with the current crisis, but thanks to the depletion of the SS Trust Fund, SS will be part of the fiscal problem in the future. I swear if Cantor tries to position himself as a budget cutter, I am going to scream!!!!!!

& Neither Rubio/Cantor have been removed from any committees.
