IDEA: Letter writing campaign to Richard Viguerie and James Dobson

Here was my email to Richard Viguerie, sent yesterday (before this forum topic was announced!) :^)

Hi Richard,

I read an article regarding your desire to bring the Republican party back to its small government roots. I too share this concern, and I have found hope in Dr. Ron Paul, a 10th term Republican congressman from Texas who is running for President. He consistently votes with the Constitution and Bill of Rights, he advocates states rights and reducing the size and scope of the federal government. He has gained tens of thousands of supporters nationwide who are eagerly spreading his message of peace, liberty and prosperity. Have you considered supporting him?

Something like this is good for Viguerie. Amend it as needed for Dobson.

Dear Mr. Viguerie,

I have followed you for some time. I am only 21 years old, and I regard myself as a real conservative, not a Big Government-loving Republican. I write to you today after seeing what you and Dobson and other conservative leaders decided in the Salt Lake City.

I write to you to help build a new conservative movement and coalition.

Conservatives DO NOT need to wait until after the primaries to take action. They need to take action NOW. The only real conservative and constitutional follower in the race for the Republican nomination is none other than Dr. Ron Paul of Texas. As a congressman, he has fought to preserve the constitution in Washington as well as across the country. He has also been one of the few Republican congressmen who maintains "conservatism" in its truest form--small government, robust civil liberties, and individual freedom. He is also the only one in the Republican field to sign your pledge at the American Freedom Agenda.

These past six years have been destructive to the conservative movement. You know this better than anyone. Which is why we have to come together, and get behind Dr. Paul. No more choosing between the lesser of two evils--the time is ripe for change. Dr. Paul can bring that change. With over 50,000 members in meetup groups around 767 cities, the foot soldiers are there, the grassroots are there. We can make it even stronger with your movement's support. Dr. Paul is a viable candidate, and we can make conservatism and freedom a popular thing again if he gets the nomination.

We are making history, Mr. Viguerie. Let us join forces. On behalf of all Ron Paul supporters, and the message of liberty, I ask you to strongly consider backing Dr. Paul for president. The future of our constitution and Republic depends on it.

Ok folks, we're going to start a huge drive. We need people to call those numbers, write letters to those address, and send messages to those emails. I'll be posting a template letter for people to get ideas on what to put in your letters.

This is the first thing I thought of, I think we should write many church leaders. I only know of the two mentioned. Would someone more involved in the Christian groups be able to provide a list. I think faxing would be okay too.

This is an entire constituency UP FOR GRABS! They don't know who to trust anymore, and I can't blame them. But what about the guy with a 20-year track record of consistency? If his own district has re-elected him 10 times to Congress in a conservative district, they must be happy with what they have been getting, right?

Point being, everyone write SOMETHING!

I think this is a great idea and something I have myself thought of over the past few weeks. I think we need to get behind this.

Even though snail mail is slower I think that it would really add a personal quality to the letters you send. How cool would it be to have them get stacks and stacks of letters from us? This is another area where we need to move the campaign from the internet to the physical world.

I do agree that tis better to write an email to them than to do nothing at all. It seems like they are all looking desperately for Ron Paul - we just need to help them find him.

I will be writing up and sending a letter to Dr. Dobson today.

I also sent an email to Dr. Dobson/FOF yesterday. Let's not worry so much about whether the 'best way' is email, snail mail or a campaign - just do something now! Let them know that waiting until after the primaries are over is too late to get behind an 'alternative' candidate, and according to World Net Daily yesterday, that's their plan right now. Wait until someone like Giuliani is the nominee, and then look for another candidate or start another party. That is a disastrous plan! Ron Paul needs their support when it matters - now!

I think that sending snail mail with a real ink signature shows that we are a little more serious. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I tend to take a letter in the mailbox more seriously than an email.
