My WH petition to honor Dr. Paul with Medal of Freedom

I have formally set up a petition to honor Dr. Paul with a medal of freedom. Of course, to honor his strict code of fiscal discipline, I included a clause that money be raised by donations rather than congressional decree. Please see the petition here. If you agree, please sign and, if they do (by some miracle) set up said fund, plese donate. Please forward to everyone you know who might like to see this happen.

PS: Yes, I know most in government aren't fit to wipe Dr. Paul's shoes, much less give him a medal. However, he deserves it and we should at least make the petition go viral in his honor and FORCE the WH to issue a formal response.

Nice idea, but I thought Dr. Paul was against medals of honor.

In the past he has said that is not a proper role of government.

Furthermore, to use taxpeyer dollars for things like this is not authorized in the Constitution.

Even though no one is more deserving of it than Ron Paul, I doubt he would even accept it.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

I want him to have it, but we can set up our own fund

THEY have no problem spending tax payer money.

Integrity means having to say things that people don't want to hear & especially to say things that the regime doesnt want to hear -RonPaul

Read the petition!!

Seriously, people. Read the petition. Inexplicitly state a fund shoukd be set up to receive donations; it wont come from tax dollars.

You know, if people cant be bothered to get the facts first, what jope do we have?

Screw The White House Kudos

I say the PEOPLE should create their OWN medal or some other honor and present it to him!

he can decline it if he wants. I'd like to see it done publicly.

Ron Paul would not approve of

Hmmm... I like the clause you added

I Don't Think Dr. Paul Would Approve Of This

Because where would the money used to purchase the medal come from? I'm assuming it would come from Federal taxes. Would Ron Paul really want to "feed at the public trough" to get a medal? Would he want to force Americans at the point of a gun (the law throwing them in jail if they don't pay their taxes) for this? That seems highly inconsistent w/ his message.

And not that this is relevant to the principle mentioned above but our country is trillions in debt. Now is not the time for this type of thing. Sure, the cost of that medal would be a "spit in the ocean" but I still think Dr. Paul would find it even more unsettling to waste federal tax dollars when we're broke.

The only way (I think) that he'd accept this medal is via voluntary donations.

To me, the best way to honor him is to try to learn the principles of liberty that he talks about and then live them and spread them.

Did you read the petition?????

I have a clause that it should be paid for by donations!

I do appreciate the sentiment

I do appreciate the sentiment, but I personally don't want anything to do with government issued anything. Dr. Paul stands on his own, as do we, and truth. I don't want it tainted with the likes of them or their so-called awards.

Don't be so sure we dont want exposure

I understand the purist atitude, truly i do. But even news articles about a successful petition (particularly if we crush the threshold) will help spread the message of liberty. Lets not be so Quick to dismiss such an award and its potential to open some eyes. Besides, think of the speech Dr.Paul could give!

Frankly, refusal to even attempt to use government show-ceremonies for OUR purposes seems a bit naive. Should washington have refused French help because Louis XVI was on the throne rather than a President?? What would the cause of Liberty gained by refusing to deal with such people, even when in our interest?

Lets use these dog and pony shows to fo two things:
1) honor dr. Paul on a public stage; he'll know its from We the people, not gvt. 2) force our opposition into an u comfortable situation of legitimizing the one man they fear.

You make very good points. Whether I participate or not, I will yield the floor ;-)
