Virginia officials cancel classes in Narrows after website connects town with Batman movie and Newtown shooting

A Virginia school district canceled classes Wednesday after an online article connected the Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises” to the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., and, presumably, one that could occur in Narrows, a small town in western Virginia.

While the Giles County Sheriff’s Office said there were no reported threats to the town’s five schools, concerned parents had been contacting officials.

“We have to take this as serious information,” said Giles County Sheriff Morgan Millirons, according to CBS affiliate WDBJ in Roanoke.

A notice posted by the schools superintendent said they were alerted last week to a Dec. 18 article entitled “The next school massacre target?” on the website RevelationNow.net.

According to the article, the name “Sandy Hook” is referenced on a map in “The Dark Knight Rises,” the same movie that was showing when suspected gunman James Holmes killed 12 people and injured 58 others at an Aurora, Colo., theater last July.
