Boehner Coup Attempt Larger Than First Thought

By Jonathan Strong | Roll Call

A concerted effort to unseat Speaker John A. Boehner was under way the day of his re-election to the position, but participants called it off 30 minutes before the House floor vote, CQ Roll Call has learned.

A group of disaffected conservatives had agreed to vote against the Ohio lawmaker if they could get at least 25 members to join the effort. But one member, whose identity could not be verified, rescinded his or her participation the morning of the vote, leaving the group one person short of its self-imposed 25-member threshold. Only 17 votes against Boehner were required to force a second ballot, but the group wanted to have insurance.

Even with 24 members, the group would easily have been able to force a second ballot round, but the effort was aborted in frenetic discussions on the House floor.

“There was an effort to get to a particular number,” said one Republican member who voted for Boehner but was familiar with the effort to oust him.

Republican Reps. Justin Amash of Michigan, Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina and Raúl R. Labrador of Idaho played key roles in organizing the plot. But participants describe its origin as organic and not led by any particular member, despite the suggestion by at least one House Republican that Amash was the ringleader.

And these people(?)

are patriots of the USA?

Kinda a lame excuse

Did they really need a certain number to have "insurance margin"?

Funny. I guess folks who buy esoteric theories can swallow this simple one too.

They had better enjoy their

They had better enjoy their underhanded tactics while they can, because the grassroots is swelling faster than anyone could have anticipated and its only a matter of time before Liberty floods to the top.

proud to be from South Carolina

Mulvaney is over-the-top smart. He did not do this on a lark or spur of the moment. I'm going to write to him tomorrow with a word of thanks.

Which North Carolina are you proud of?

Before you do that:

List Of House Members Who Voted For HR 4310 NDAA Bill on December 20th, 2012
South Carolina
YEA R Scott, Tim SC 1st
YEA R Wilson, Joe SC 2nd
YEA R Duncan, Jeff SC 3rd
YEA R Gowdy, Trey SC 4th
YEA R Mulvaney, Mick SC 5th
YEA D Clyburn, Jim SC 6th

I suspect it

was Boehner who coerced/forced them to and besides we live in the "warrior state" of South Carolina. Had they voted NO, they would have been labeled as not supporting the troops, soft on terrorism/Iran.

"...played key roles in organizing the plot".

it wasn't a "plot"

it was a move towards regaining our government back from the "bought and paid for" politicians that have sold us out!

My hats off to Amash for trying.

He had nothing to lose, no compromising or political capital to bargain with any longer, so why not? He has his dignity and the knowledge that he tried to do the right for the country. He tried to remove that trash from the line of presidential succession.

Hats off to Justin?

You have not heard the last from Justin ;-)

I adore Amash...

We would all be automatically coalescing around him if he would have RP's last name, while the one who does is...well...I digress into heretical territory...

I have been promoting Justin at all of the gun shows, meetings, events, etc. that I attend. Gun shows have thousands of attendees during the course of the weekends each month. Justin is being very well received, his name recognition is growing.

Justin is mentioned by Ron in many Campaign for Liberty mailers that I receive. As Ron Paul has stated, it will take an entire generation to put our country right. I believe that once Ron begins his college speaking tour, Justin will be the one who attracts the youth vote. I know that Rand is in the mix, but I do not see r3VOLution rallies behind him, and he won't attract the reformed democrats, as Ron was able to do. Justin will fit the bill very nicely.

Print and distribute, Justin Amash is on the Horizon :-)

At some point I will revise this, as he has won his second term.

I like Justin, too

But if both Justin Amash and Rand Paul run, we're going to have a divided Constitutional vote, not just a divided conservative vote (like between Ron Paul and Santorum). It'll already take everything in our power to convince "conservatives" in the primary not to go with Rubio or Ryan because their beloved FOX tells them they're the front runners. I just can't see die-hard republicans who liked a lot of what Ron Paul said, but were scared about his foreign policy or didn't think he had the right personality to be president, to go from his son (who they think is on their side because he voted Republican in the presidential election and in their mind, has the right personality to be president) to a strict Constitutionalist, Justin Amash. Meanwhile, neither will win the primary and we'll get another CRF candidate in.

Thoughts anyone?

Hound Hell is on his tail.

Keep pushing forward.
