Let's have a discussion about Police Officers

There is much prejudice and hate in this world, for many groups of people, and cops are right near the top of this group. We have all seen or experienced "bad" cops. There are numerous videos of police brutality. It is a real problem. It is natural to dislike or fear people who have power, especially when they abuse it.

There seems to be a general dislike for cops around here. Personally, it concerns me because if I were a cop, and I was just on the brink of waking up to the liberty message, why would I spend my time here reading post after post about how terrible of a person I am? Cops also have to deal with the reality of bad cops, who give all cops a bad name. But at the end of the day, we NEED them to be on our side. We need them to be a part of this movement. Think of all the good they could do!

Wouldn't it be amazing if most police officers were Oathkeepers? How can we welcome them to our team with this kind of attitude towards them?

I would like the discussion to be geared towards perhaps finding a common ground with officers. They have just as much at stake as we do in this battle for getting our country back. What can we personally do to integrate more of them into liberty ideas?

Well done, sir.

....where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is LIBERTY. 2 Corinthians 3:17(b)

***wants are unlimited, means are scarce...***

yeah, you're still putting

yeah, you're still putting marijuana smokers in prison and blaming your actions on the legislature. soon you will be ordered to confiscate guns and/or back up the a.t.f. for registration and confiscation. will you still be chiding libertarians for not changing laws in the legislature, before you are ordered to confiscate guns? Will you blame it on people instead, and not take any responsibility for your jack-booted coworkers?

It won't make a bit of difference (before God) if you continue to enforce these evil laws.

Are your tax dollars still being used to murder innocent people?

Are you blaming that on the government?

Come on! This man does not deserve this disrespect.

I can tell you as a matter of

I can tell you as a matter of fact there are many pot smokers who have not been arrested at all, let alone, thrown in prison. I remember a time where people with a little weed would get a ticket for disorderly conduct instead of the full blown charge of possession or nothing at all. I am also saying that there are many pot smokers who in fact do use too much of it or mix it with too much of other things and they lose their ability to function temprarily in public, causing us to encounter them, not our choice. Despite all that, I wont cast all pot smokers into the category of bad like you seem to willing to do to me. Honest, leave others alone and Ill leave you alone types of cops have had their discretion taken away more and more over the years and soon there will be nothing left robots enforcing all laws, There are more than enough laws on the books as it is now for a robotic police force to take total control but that hasn't happened, thanks to those of us who choose to be careful about whether or not to even enforce a law. Officers like me and others who dont even know better yet will be the first to "go" when asked to disarm people. Ill be dead before the robots get to you. If you think that pot smoking is the highest goal on earth to achieve liberty, I think maybe you are dependant and might well do better with socialism. My message isnt nearly as much about changing the government as it is changing the mindset of the governed. Once we all change our views toward liberty, we will have the government we seek, seriously limited.

I am the bratt

that told you about the number of c's and m's in accommodate :)

I had asked you a question over on that other post that you did not answer. I had always wondered what your thoughts were about my question. It was sincere: http://www.dailypaul.com/comment/2813468

Anyways, I also want to say that when I was a teenager, we were drinking and smoking in the public park after dark. The policeman that showed up, because it was his job to do so, did not take us in. I am forever greatful. I don't know how that would have changed my life. Perhaps deepened my rebellion...Instead, I had a chance to come to my senses, in time, without a court record.

awesome reply. i'm more of

awesome reply. i'm more of an austrian school of economics pot smoker, but i haven't smoked pot for over 18 months. i've been pretty, sadly sober, actually. i don't know why i've been sober...

i was hoping more that marijuana (& hemp) would be used as currency- as it could be under a truly free market system. i was against any taxation on marijuana if it became legal. And i'm against property tax as well, because a man is not free if he can't own his land without being taxed for it.

i guess you're trying to be a good cop, so i hope you have luck in waking up your fellow officers, or just tell them to keep shooting those roids up so they can bash in our heads. Have you ever asked them if there should be such a thing as property tax? Your fellow officers could have political sway in the community. A bunch of people would love to get rid of property tax if you could sell them on the idea of that.

I here ya brother, sometimes

I here ya brother, sometimes it seems best not to be sober but then I d rather just face reality because it will smack soon enough. Its a wonder were not on that wonderful cough medicine my doctor gave me for my flu this week, lol. You hit the nail on the head though with the property tax idea. Thats always a good way to begin making in roads with another cop and that is exactly how the discussions begin. Its just a shame that people, including cops cant seem to get concerned about things. I guess they just think they have no power and they wont if they dont seek it out like you and others clearly do. Once I start talking about that, the questions start coming about many other things which all lead to the same logical conclusion, goverment in our current existence doesn't work for us, whether it be the R' or the D's. And by the way, I wouldn't work with someone who was clearly showing signs of steroid use and steroids or not, I have and will always stand in the way of another cop presnting himself in a disgraceful way. I also dont mean to totally disrespect marijuana smokers any more than I would a responsible drinker. I agree with decriminalization and would love for hemp to growing in our fields. Peace to you my friend.

I appreciate the insight. I am not sure how to handle these sort of revenue generators. I've tried the "nice" route and always received some citation in some form. At the end of the day, I have been proverbially beaten back to the point of compliance and being a subject. It's a shame, because the police force used to be well-respected in my eyes. Now I see code enforcers who have missed the point of a law enforcement career.

Words of reason, thanks.

For one of the primaries I

For one of the primaries I was spray painting a bunch of Ron Paul signs behind my house on a road that dead ends into a field. After being out there for about an hour, I noticed a police car parked at the end of the road watching me. The officer watched me for about 20 minutes before I nicely waved him over. When he drove over I asked him if what I was breaking any laws, and he looked down at all of the signs and exclaims "Oh Ron Paul! I love Ron Paul! You are doing a wonderful job on those!" We had a short conversation about Dr. Paul and he was actually apologetic and goes "I don't want to take anymore of your time, I wouldn't be a good cop if I wasn't a curious cop." It was the most pleasant experience I have ever had with a police officer. I never really had an opportunity to share that story during the primaries... I figured this would be a good spot to.

who needs 'em?

not me!

i'd hate to think I would have to wait on some fat ass ignorant thug to come protect me in times of danger

fire them all, i say...who will miss them?

keep some detectives to investigate AFTER THE FACT because that is the ONLY time police show up, anyway...AFTER THE FACT!

It's not the only time they show up.

How many drunk drivers have been caught in the act BEFORE they killed some innocent person? I could give other examples but like you said it would be wasting your time because I am just a ninny.

Have a great day!

you have never lost a loved one to a drunk driver. I'm happy for you. I hope you never do, and I hope the police catch as many drunk drivers as possible, every single day.

what specific laws

are the average american under?
by this i mean, what LAWS do cops uphold, that
we as a nation are under?
are there any besides corporate law
corp laws are statutes.ordinances and codes
if any cop uses these, then aren't they also against the const?
but didn't they swear an oath to it?

If we deny truth before your very eyes, then the rest of what we have to say,is of little consequence

I've printed the letter below and handed it to several officers

I keep a stack of these in my truck and when I see State Troopers or local cops parked at a resturant I walk in, tell them I saw their cars in the parking lot and wanted to thank them. I lay the letter on their table and leave. I have no idea how any of them have taken it but it makes me feel better nonetheless. :)

My Print out:
An increasing number of Americans are concerned that many of our elected officials in Washington DC and throughout the several States are routinely breaking the law and are not upholding their sworn oaths of office. Sufficient information is now available in the public domain which indicates President Obama more than likely has committed Treason against the United States. There is also conclusive evidence that The Federal Reserve System, The US Treasury, and a large number of international bankers have been pillaging trillions of dollars from our country for decades.

The theft of our nations money and treasure is being hidden through massive money printing and the creation of electronic credit using only promised taxation from the future earning power of American workers as collateral. Big Banks, Large Multi-National Corporations, Politicians, and people in positions of power all around the globe have been the beneficiaries of “bail outs”, stimulus packages, and complex financial schemes that have piled nearly 20 trillion dollars onto the backs of unborn Americans. Sadly, all of this criminal activity continues with complete impunity.

You voluntarily pledged your allegiance to our country by raising your right hand and swearing to uphold an oath, exactly like, or very similar to, this one:

I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

Although all of the crimes being committed by our so called “leaders” are abhorrent and grossly immoral, nothing I’m aware of is more dangerous to the safety of our great nation than an act of Treason by our sitting President.

Article III Section 3 of The United States Constitution delineates treason as follows: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”

Obama has created a “Consequence Management Response Force” Ready To Be Deployed Against Americans at anytime he so chooses. If The President deploys armed forces against Americans, that would qualify under Article III Section 3 as levying War against US Citizens.

Billions of rounds of Hollow Point Bullets have been purchased by the Dept of Homeland Security, The National Weather Service, The Social Security Administration, The IRS, and several other Government Agencies. No rational justification has been given to the American people for such large Ammo purchases by the Federal Government. Creating small Armies to support the Government Agencies mentioned above are inconsistent with “protecting and serving” the people of The United States. In this case and at this time, technically, a charge of Treason against The President may not apply. However, the POTUS is walking an incredibly fine line by arming to the teeth Government Agencies which historically have never needed the threat of deadly force to carry out their missions. It should be noted that the agencies which have been receiving unprecedented quantities of weapons and ammo operate almost exclusively inside the United States, which begs the question, who and what are these agencies afraid of?

Another situation in which a charge of Treason against the President cannot be denied is based on the final part of Article III Section 3 of The United States Constitution “aiding and comforting designated enemies of The United States.” Obama and his administration funded and supported known terrorist organizations (including AlQeda), in Libya. The leader of the sovereign Libyan nation was also assassinated by terrorists supported and funded by the Obama administration which is a crime under international law. The same Treasonous acts are now ongoing in Syria. It cannot be stated more directly or conclusively that our commander in chief and the President of our country has committed Treason. It’s the obligation and duty of the sworn protectors of our country to hold traitors accountable.

Much needs to be done to take our country back from the criminals who have usurped control of nearly every position of power in American Government. Unless we get some of you good guys to start pushing back against the criminals and start doing what is right…our children and future generations will never know freedom. They will only know Corporate-Fascism and will grow up living in a Totalitarian Police State. They will think what is happening to our country is completely normal. Your children and grandchildren will live the lives of debt slaves in a collectivist system where individual effort and independent thought is prohibited. Your Oath NEVER expires. It’s time to keep it.

Thank you for your service to our country.

I think that's a great idea.

I think that's a great idea. A good way to say it all and leave the reader with either something to think about and get the wheels turning or at worst, they throw it away.

True sory

Hopefully this gives y'all some hope. Working for Dr. Paul an event where Santorum, Ginrich, and Nikki Haley (representing the Romulan) were appearing. (of course Dr. Pauls main campaign did not cooperate with us to send him or a surrogate to this large 3 day event.) Anyway, we had a great table and display with volunteers for Dr. Paul and who quietly stops by but members of the police detail assigned to the event helping guard the other candidates. Long story short....they PURCHASED RP shirts, and gave donations for some yard signs, literature etc.to take home to their families. Here is the kicker...they quietly asked us to sneak out to one of the squad cars and put the stuff they got in it so they wouldn't be seen walking out with it. lol We had a good time chatting with these officers. We also had an officer stop by with his little daughter to a meetup to get RP materials for his home. To hear this guy talk about his child and why he supports liberty was actually inspiring. I can't stand most law enforcement for obvious reasons, but I do know there are some good ones who if nothing else at least give me some hope.

That's great to hear:)

I'm curious now, I wonder if they didn't want to be seen walking out with it for some legal reason. Kinda like members of the armed forces aren't allowed to show political support in their uniforms?

The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.
-Thomas Paine

I'm sure

it had to do with that. They were on duty..... and it was a squad car. Doughnuts are allowed, Ron Paul swag, not so much. lol

OK, so nobody likes cops

I remember when I hated all politicians; there were no honest ones in the House of Reps. Then came Ron Paul, then Walter Jones, and now several more libertarian types. Some were replaced and some gained the courage to show their true liberty colors; but it happened with change of mind at the local level. Same with any group, change a few, and others will begin to change; I say we work to change the few. Remember, they have guns and training, and we will need as many as possible believing as we do, very soon. Start with Sheriff and deputies first, then local cops, forget the highway patrol(lost cause) lol. Like most of the people here, who didn't believe in liberty a few years ago, people can change, or become brave enough to show their true liberty colors.

I know I have changed so much since I got the message from Dr. Paul.

show me in the constitution

where the word law enforcement is mentioned
then please show where we are under the corporation
that the cops are under
and just for kicks, show how we as a non corp people
fall under the statutes, ordinances, and codes from the state corp?
these are for the internal workings of said corp and them alone
most do not work for the corp,so just how does this apply
to the common man/woman?
people are forced, by the way of taxes, for the hiring of cops
then we pay yet again with all manner of tickets(when the law
says NO VICTIM,NO CRIME!),this is thievery

If we deny truth before your very eyes, then the rest of what we have to say,is of little consequence

What is the problem, OP?

Do you have any examples of threads you find problematic?

Most everything posted is a specific incident where police are clearly outside their rights as police officers.

I've never seen a thread here that has any kind of blanket stereotype against cops.

But it is undeniable that most cops are pure evil, because that is how they are trained and pressured to become.

The problem

is statements like yours such as, "Most cops are pure evil". If you put any group of people in that spot, I'd have an issue with it.

Most Muslims are pure evil.
Most Jews are pure evil.
Most Christians are pure evil.
Most doctors are pure evil.

All that statement does is create division, in a world and a time where we need unity more than anything.

The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.
-Thomas Paine

Not all of us are broad

Not all of us are broad shouldered enough to accept the harsh criticism, deserved or not. However, like me, I ventured toward this political liberty movement for obvious reasons. I have always been suspicious of the State, all the way back to serving in the Army. I saw incompetent leadership, waste, and hypocrisy. I then left and after some college, I became a police officer. I remember being advised to always do what is reasonable, which to me meant, the law be damned, do what is right. It also meant to me, make the best decision possible taking in account, the rights of the accused and what society expects from me in handling the accused. The Golden rule was a great principle to live by. I treated those that would threaten to kill my family or did whatever they could to provoke me into doing the wrong thing, the opposite of the response they expected. I cannot say Ive always done the right thing but I have tried and I corrected my mistakes as best I could.
Police are not the makers of law, society is. If the police are enforcing laws you disagree with, change the minds of society. I know that the people here are doing the best job of anyone out there in that challenge, and that is why I am here with you. Those that work along side of me know my stances politically and I have been very vocal about them. Im proud to say that I have no doubt opened many minds among my peers. Ive succeeded in doing that by engaging in conversations that are philosophical in nature and explain how many of the laws, rules and procedures do not just violate the rights of the "evil civilians" but ours just the same. I draw parallels of how we will also be affected. I know that may seem selfish but sometimes to convince someone to see your way, you must show them how your way will benefit them first. To the first sentence, it also follows that if you expect the police to be the ones that change the laws by simply not enforcing them, you would then be granting them the power to make law as well.
Many of the critics are going to be hateful of police no matter what. Some of them are too narrow minded to look at the big picture and are engaged in the same type of division that establishmentarians are so good at. They hate us, and the narrow minded police officer hates them. Both are unreasonable, making bridge building impossible. We all have the same enemy which is one that stalks around hidden, playing all of us off against each other so that liberty cannot exist and only a government can make things right for us.
I also recognize that there are no doubt police officers who should not just be fired but be placed in prison for their actions. A liberty minded society makes no distinction between those that violate the freedoms of others. Sometimes, a short video clip or one sided description of an encounter is too easily accepted as the truth that one wants it to be. Keeping that in mind, it is still beneficial to discuss these events and use them to make changes. I have seen people post stories that were favorable and many that were not. Im here to tell you that this group of people at the DP and similar organizations, are making a difference. I also believe that you can find commonality with most police if you keep an open mind. Unfortunately sometimes you may have to be the better person, I know that isn't easy, but you will be happy in the end. When wrong is apparent, it should not be ignored either. I beleive the drug war is a large part of the problem but so are using drugs, including alcohol, to excess. I hope that those of you who can now use marijuana legally realize that many others are watching to see how you police yourselves and isn't that what it's really all about, how we police ourselves? When we fail at that, the group then starts screaming for more law and they get it evertime don't they. They will also do their best to find people from the group to be the enforcers of those laws and who wants to wait for some Judge, appointed by that same group to decide whether that law was enforced properly.

Peace to all of you and sorry for being long-winded. I plead guilty in advance to any charges of misspelling or gramamtical errors chaged against me.

thanks:)Good service, and good insight. It's officers like you that can really help educate other officers. Were you an Oathkeeper or had you heard of it?
