What is God? Where is God?

Many people "believe in" God. Very few people have a definite idea of what God is. I've always believed in a creative and super intelligent force that I call God, and admit that I'm not sure what that force is, where it came from and how it works. I think cutting edge quantum physics and quantum mechanics might be shedding some light on this issue, however.

Here are some questions to ponder: Does God have a physical body and if not, what is God made of; is he really really big or small?

Where does God reside -- inside or outside the universe, and if inside the universe, where is he in relationship to us?

Could God be pure conscious energy;

Did God create the universe;

Does anything exist outside the universe, and if so, what might that be;

Does anything exist that God didn't create, and if so, who created that?

Is God infinite spacially, and if so, doesn't that mean that everything is God?

If God isn't infinite spacially, what is outside of God and who created that?

I'm sure there are many more questions related to this issue that I haven't thought of. If anyone has any special insight to share on this, I'd love to hear it.

Is God a man?

What if, God were a woman?

I believe God is inside ALL of us and we are all "God", in some respect.
Likewise, we are ALL "satan".

We ALL have good AND evil inside of us and we are constantly waging a war, within ourselves, to struggle between those two foes.

That's why what we surround ourselves with has such a profound impact on the winner of that epic, individual battle. When we take "God" out of our schools, out of our government, out of our everyday lives, whether it be, TV, radio, books, etc., we are taking "God" out of what we use to educate us, inform us , guide us, and rule us, by law.

Removing the goodness that affects our every day lives only serves to allow that evil to have a stronger "voice".

What is "God"? I am. You are. We are all "God". We are all "evil".

What rules the day is what remains at the end of it.

I think this goes here

God is the beginning and end

God is the beginning and end of all things.

If we have any reason for doing any thing, God is that first cause, first reason.

If there is any end result, or final conclusion to our life and its purpose and meaning, that is God.

God is what is over the horizon. Not that which we discover tomorrow, or having crossed over a hill, but He is always just over the horizon. He IS what is over the horizon.

That might not seem real, but its effects on our lives are very real. Everything we do or plan for is imaginary. We have deductive reasoning, reasonable expectations, probability. Nevertheless, humankind is defined by possessing a sense of what isn't but might be.

If 'what isn't but might be' is thus sacred, then God is that which is Divine. He is the ultimate, and highest, what isn't but might be.

Anything with life and a mind, knows God. Although, you might not know that you know God.

Some people like to think of God as having a certain personality, or responding specifically to prayer or certain prayers. Maybe so! Maybe not!

But God, whatever His form or essence, is as real as life.

God is what you are accountable to. You are accountable to your future. And eternal life beyond the mortal world is a real to you today as next Thursday. Think about it.

Christianity: The Devil's Greatest Trick

http://www.amazon.com/Christianity-Devils-Greatest-Trick-ebo...

Book description:
============================================
It's a simple fact that most Christians know next to nothing about Christianity. How many of them are aware of the many heresies that were stamped out by the early Church? Had any of these heresies triumphed, the world would be a very different, and much saner place.

Find out about the monstrous St Augustine and his doctrines of grace, Original Sin, Predestination and the Total Depravity of the human race. This "saint" was happy to send to hell unbaptised babies that died in infancy. His great enemy was the humane and rational Celtic monk Pelagius. The great tragedy of Christianity is that it listened to Augustine rather than Pelagius, and it did so for the oldest of reasons - because Augustine offered the officials of the Church much more personal power.

What was the Donatist heresy and what does it tell us about the dangers of modern Islam? How does the sectarian rivalry between Celtic and Rangers football clubs in Scotland reflect much of Western world history?

Are the 12 Steps of Alcoholics' Anonymous tantamount to cult indoctrination? Were Freud and Augustine both obsessed with their parents? What is "Hieros Gamos"? Should it be a regular feature of the modern world?

Were many people in the ancient world known as the "Son of God"? Are the Christian concepts of the Holy Trinity and the incarnation of God in man the most logically incoherent doctrines ever devised?

Who was the heretic Nestorious and why was he so significant? Why is reincarnation much more logical than resurrection? Why is it that so few Christians understand the concept of resurrection?

Should the story of the Garden of Eden be completely reinterpreted for the contemporary world? What is the difference between consciousness and bicameralism? Are Jews, Christians and Muslims actually bicameral i.e. belonging to an earlier and more stupid stage of human evolution?

Were the Jews advocates of temple prostitution, even within the confines of Solomon's holy temple to Yahweh?

Can the tales of Abraham, Jephtha and the Garden of Eden prove conclusively that the Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the Devil?

Did the sacred Jewish Covenant with Yahweh result in all Jews going to hell according to the Christian doctrine of Original Sin? Is everyone mentioned in the Old Testament even now in hell?

Anyone well-versed in the study of Judaism, Christianity and Islam cannot fail to conclude that the God of these religions must be considered to be identical with Satan i.e. Abrahamists are under the power of the Devil, hence why they have committed so many evil acts throughout history.

By the time you have finished this book, you will be able to demonstrate that anyone who does not repudiate Abraham's God is evil.

Do not read this book if you are a closed-minded Abrahamist, conspiracy theorist or freeloader. The material in this book is provided by the Pythagorean Illuminati, the oldest secret society in the world, and is not for petty, cheap, narrow-minded religious fanatics.
=================================================

Not the best source in the world, but better than most preachers/pastors/etc.

Wow

Not for petty, cheap. Narrow minded, religious fanatics? Is that a long way of saying that if I disagree I must be one of those?

The devil? Hmm.

Liberty = Responsibility

Interesting

Good questions. I fail to see how anyone can claim the Bible is the "immutable Word of God" when it was admittedly edited a couple of times already. Furthermore, the one everybody loves so much is the "King James Bible." Well, that one has a MAN'S name on it - do people think King James is God, or do they think God needs a King to give him street cred? Any Christians ever think to ask themselves "Why did King James translate it?" Well, in this amazing age you can ask the googlemind...
"At the time, other English Bibles existed, but King James did not like the most popular translation, the Geneva Bible, because he felt that some of the marginal notes encouraged disobedience to kings."

http://www.allabouttruth.org/king-james-bible.htm

Now then, if it ain't King James, it ain't Bible... as they like to say. And if it is King James, it is about keeping a king's power, not about glorifying God.

Wait for it... here comes the down-vote brigade.... Because that little red arrow will make this ugly fact go away...

if you are in a dire straits call out His name and He shall be there with you. I know, I have experienced the spiritual battle and it was not very pleasant. It was the most helpless feeling and only the Lord relieved the distress. Satan and his minions had me literally pinned ie paralyzed all over. I could not even move my pinky with all my might and after what seemed like an hour of torment and felt like being gagged and could not speak or utter the Lord's name...I got it out barely and almost instantly the pressures of the dark forces was relieved and I could finally sit up. It felt like 10 people were holding me down and I lost the use of speech. I will never forget this and thank and Praise God for it. I think I realized that I had tempted the Lord God in the past and had to be held accountable.

God is eternal. And so by definition God is outside of time and space, for God created it. Asking who ceated an eternal God is like asking where does an asymptotic curve begin or end. We will never understand God. Even if we are fortunate to be found in heaven with God, we will spend an eternity of eternities trying to grasp God.

A few days ago i came across this thought/suggestion for how God created the universe. God said, "Let there be light" and the mere words spoken by God IS the universe.

This changed my old vision of God from being an old man with a beard to something undescribable. We can hardly explain a God of 3 facets (ie. Trinity). From my experience, i feel more productive and happy if i give up "trying to understand God" and simply just "accept and trust in God".

God is Love.

And so much more.

America must turn back to God, must reclaim God in her life or she (America) will certainly perish from the Earth.

Those that wish to destroy America do so by removing God from America.

Return God and restore America.

In my humble opinion, the entire universe and every single particle matter in it is nothing but an incredibly minute speck in God's left eye.

We all reside in God's House, but too many of us choose to act like evil cancer cells trying to take over God's domain, name, and body.

For those who reject God, they have forgotten the miracle of their own birth, and take for granted the heartbeat that ticks within them by an amazing electro-chemical process that creates life, and consciousness.

There IS a reason why we are here. Only the truth will lead one to reason.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

While reading the Bible this morning I saw, "God is one."

I already knew this, based on many, many verses that teach the same, beginning with Deuteronomy 6:4 -also known to Jews as "The Shema."

But in the New Testament this morning the simple sentence and verse just jumped out at me, "God is one."

What a simple, soothing thought, that there is One God.

I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. Ps 120:7

One God

and ONLY one true and living God!

Jesus Christ is Lord, One with the Father!

Praise be His name forever!

He is coming soon and then, EVERYONE will KNOW who God is!

For most it will be their day of judgement.

For the few who truly believe, it will be the begining of an eternity of unspeakable joy!

There is still time to turn to Him and repent of your sins.

Call upon the name of Jesus for forgiveness and eternal life.

I pray that many here will do just that.

Even so, come Lord Jesus!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

What is One?

ONE does not exist...so to speak.

There is no ONE thing in this universe.

There is one atom in a hydrogen molecule, but there are countless molecules of hydrogen.

I have one nose, but i can look around and see billions of noses on billions of creatures.

There is one sun in our solar system, but there are trillions of suns in the universe.

The only time we actually get ONE is when we add the sum total of everything and call it the UNiverse. UN means 'One' in the French language. In this context, 'One' is a shorthand way of saying 'Everything'.

So maybe God is everything

First mention

Often times you can go to the first use of a word in the scripture to better understand the definition of that word.

In this case, let's look at the word "one."
http://biblesuite.com/hebrew/echad_259.htm

.

Hear, O Israel: YHUH our God YHUH one. And thou shalt love YHUH thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

...ADONAI echad

...the LORD is one. Or better still Yahweh is One.

While it is true that there is but one God the "Shema" declares that Yahweh is God and Yahweh is One in a plural sense since echad is a plural.

Some will say that this reveals the Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. My own understanding is that it reveals the plurality of God who is a Spirit and omnipresent. The unity of God is surely in His character and nature and in the firmness of His purposes. His plurality is in His nature of Love which is ultimate togetherness as expressed in Hebrews 8:1 "Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We have such a high priest, one who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven"

"The Majesty" in Greek is μεγαλοσυνε (megalosune) which is literally "the great togetherness". It is this great togetherness united in consciousness, nature, character and purpose that has expressed Himself in different ways each with its own function and meaning yet in perfect union of character, nature and purpose that is for me Elohim, El Shaddai, Yahweh and Yahshua, the Creator and Redeemer of mankind. As the apostle Paul said to the philosophers and speakers in the Areopagus in Athens:

Acts 17:24 The God who made the world and everything in it, who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by human hands, 17:25 nor is he served by human hands, as if he needed anything because he himself gives life and breath and everything to everyone. 17:26 From one man he made every nation of the human race to inhabit the entire earth, determining their set times and the fixed limits of the places where they would live, 17:27 so that they would search for God and perhaps grope around for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 17:28 For in him we live and move about and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we too are his offspring.’ 17:29 So since we are God’s offspring, we should not think the deity is like gold or silver or stone, an image made by human skill and imagination. 17:30 Therefore, although God has overlooked such times of ignorance, he now commands all people everywhere to repent, 17:31 because he has set a day on which he is going to judge the world in righteousness, by a man whom he designated, having provided proof to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

The entire universe is an

The entire universe is an imagination inside God's mind, to ask where He is is ludicrous.

Don't know why you got the downvotes

what you say is basically true. The entirety of all the physical laws (which have meaning only to a conscious entity) are simply God's consciousness interacting with ours. The universe as we see it is a reflection of God's imagination in our minds.

I disagree with you, however, that asking where God is is a ludicrous question (and maybe that statement of yours is what got the downvotes). The most meaningful answer is that God exists in all time and all space, because all time and all space are created by, and reside in, God's imagination.

maybe god is NOT a thing to be located in any one place

the word for GOD in the Persian Language is KHODAH
it's two words together.

Khod = Self
Ah = ancient word for Gnosis/Knowledge (as in AHA moment)

God / Khodah literally means Self Knowledge

Eventually, all at once

“You are a divine being. You matter, you count. You come from realms of unimaginable power and light, and you will return to those realms.

You have to take seriously the notion that understanding the universe is your responsibility, because the only understanding of the universe that will be useful to you is your own understanding.”

“The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants.” — Albert Camus

My guess is that...

Your god is Science since you allude to Science as the final authority by which any discovery must be weighed and measured and judged. Science is the summation of Man's Knowledge of the physical universe so your god is Man who is also according to your scheme of things a creation of your god. This is a very accurate description that you have given of Self since Man may indeed be his own god made in his own image.

Therefore to truly know YOUR god you would have to know YOUR Self. If you continue down this particular path then one day you will eventually delineate your god, your Self, to your own satisfaction. It is once again my guess that your final discovery may not be entirely to your liking.

In this case you may decide to recreate your Self or improve on your Self and you will find many many helpers in this endeavour eager to enrol you in their own pet projects of Self Creation, Self Esteem Building, Self Image Improvement and goodness knows what else. You may even decide that your own techniques of Self Creation are well worth marketing and enter that field yourself.

Do not imagine that this will ever bring you one step closer to the God who really did create the universe and everything in it.

There are three other questions that should be asked that will help in this quest.

1. Is God a Person in the sense of a feeling, thinking, acting entity with whom one could have a relationship?

2. Is God good?

2. Has God revealed Himself/Herself/Itself to humanity at any time in any place to any one person or one people and given us a description of who He/She/It is?

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

Definitely not true

Much of what is considered science today is just corporate/govt. funded propaganda used to push an agenda or to sell products. Global warming, "research" related to usefulness of certain drugs and medical treatments and (in the past) Eugenics are good examples.

There is such a thing, however, as honest science which actually serves the commonly understood purpose of science which is seeking truth. You could go in the opposite direction and declare science to be blasphemy when it goes against your religious beliefs, which actually happened in the past.

I don't understand why discoveries arising from quantum physics about "matter," energy and consiousness should bother you or any other person who believes in God. Afterall, if God created everything, the natural laws of science are his creation as well. I suggest you do some reading or view some youtubes about quantum physics and consciousness if you haven't already.

Your questions are very interesting...

1. I don't know.

2. "Good" is the opposite of "evil," like young/old, birth/death, health/sickness. You can't have one without the other in this world. I think God is the only real and permanent thing that exists...God is changeless, untouched by duality. At least this is what I believe.

3. I believe God is revealed to those who attain a high level of consciousness, a.k.a. "Christ consciousness." Jesus is one, but imo, not the only one who attained this. People who reach that level of consciousness have said that there are no words to make another person, who hasn't had that experience, understand what they've experienced. Therefore, when they try to describe it through analogy or some other verbal means, there's a lot of misunderstanding and confusion. They've said that only through this consciousness can one know God. And, interestingly, they've said that through this consciousness, they learned that every living thing is connected (one) and they see God in all. This seems to be compatible with the info. coming out of quantum physics. I don't think this disproves/threatens Christianity, it actually supports it if you're open minded enough to consider alternative interpretations of Jesus' teachings to those given by the church.

I agree that Wisdom and God are not incompatible.

However today it is quite common to make a god out of Science and insist that the only reality is the physical universe, This is to deify Man and is the outgrowth of the very first error made by the first man Adam. It is also true that modern Science and Magic are twins. Magic was the sickly one and died when modern Science was born in the high Middle Ages.

The search for knowledge can be motivated by the desire to know the truth and to seek to conform one's life to the truth as thus discovered. This was the ancient meaning of Science in the sense of Wisdom. This is not the impulse that drives modern Science which seeks to subject the physical universe to the lusts and ambitions of Man in the same way Magic did. It is this materialising instinct that seeks to bend the world to its will and that eventually brutalises mankind and leads to his destruction by his own hand.

This instinct has also become the driving motivation of most religions, whether exoteric or esoteric, and secret societies. It is the source of all the bestial systems of the ancient and modern worlds whether political, economic or religious. It may well present itself to your mind as a harmless lamb but it is nevertheless a devouring dragon.

The assertion that all mankind can aspire to "Christ" consciousness and thereby know God is just one of the half truths that are propagated today to ensnare the unwary seeker and enmesh them in all kinds of delusions. The powers of the unconscious mind of Man are powerful and they can appear to the conscious mind as gods. It is the powers of the unconscious mind that the secret societies and esoteric religions seek to harness for their own ends and it is they who teach this notion of the "Christ" consciousness which is the Self that I mentioned in my first comment. This will certainly afford one a consciousness of the connectedness of the universe since everything is indeed connected and in its deepest substrata is one. It is also true that this consciousness is carried by the very energies you mention as being described by quantum physics just as the powers of the mind are contained in the biochemical processes of the brain.

There is however a very important difference between this reality and the true relatedness and consciousness that is offered to the disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. The one you are describing is the shadow of the true. It is therefore very similar in its outlines but in its substance it is very different. Even the physical light we know is a shadow of the real Light.

The answers to the questions I asked are as follows:

1. Yes God is Person in that He/She is the meaning of what we call personality.

2. Yes God is Good in that He/She is the meaning and source of Goodness. Indeed ONLY God IS Good.

3. Yes He/She has revealed Himself/Herself to individuals throughout history. In the distant past He spoke to the people of ancient Israel through men called prophets but two thousand years ago He incarnated Himself in the man Jesus of Nazareth.

It is He who has most clearly revealed to us who God is, the kind of person He is and what His purposes are for all of us. He was crucified by those He came to, the last remnant of the people of ancient Israel, but this was always His plan and purpose in order to unite the spiritual and physical realms in One, so that God might be all in all. He therefore demonstrated this by rising from the dead and revealed to those who had believed in Him the Reality of the New Creation that He had come to inaugurate. He then ascended into the spiritual dimension whence He had come and then He returned in His Spirit form, His New Spiritual Body, to anoint His disciples and give to them His New Spiritual Body to unite with their own spirits and so create a new creature in each of them. It is this Corporate Reality that comprises the true Christian Church, those who have received His New Spiritual Body and continue to grow in Him and He in them.

This New Creation is the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Light which will replace the present Old Creation, the Kingdom of the World, the Kingdom of Darkness in which we all live at this moment. This is why I say that we should beware of accepting a counterfeit. There is only one Way into the New Creation and the Lord Jesus Christ is that Way.

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

God Is In A Different Demention Than Us...

... we as humans are made up of three persons. The spirit, soul and body. The spirit is our God consciousness, the soul is our self consciousness and our body is our world consciousness. The soul is our mind, emotions or will. The spirit is what is left of our conscience after the fall (what we know of God) and our body is our earth suite. God connects to us with our spirit our soul should respond then commands our body to respond in an appropriate way.

After having quite the same questions in my life

studying ancient texts as well as the latest discoveries being made in quantum physics here is my view in a nutshell:

We know sub-atomic particles are made from Energy. I believe this energy is Consciousness. Our thought and emotions are then Consciousness we can control and manifest.

ADDITION:

The more I have been AWARE of my thoughts and Emotions (E-Motion—Energy in Motion) and been consciously making an effort to avoid negative thoughts and emotions, the better things go in my life. I know many people aren't yet ready to take such direct responsibility for and in their lives but I have and I SEE the results are real. Sorry to break it to those wishing for a man in the sky but the Truth is far simpler and accessible than that, in my opinion.
