John Brennan Soon To Be New CIA Chief

Brennan to Be Named CIA Chief

10:21 PM, Jan 6, 2013

Fox News reports that John Brennan is expected to be named the new CIA director, possibly as early as tomorrow:

President Obama is expected to nominate White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan for CIA director as early as Monday, Capitol Hill sources tell Fox News.

Brennan has served in the counterterrorism post since the beginning of the Obama administration. Prior to taking that position, though, Brennan spent about 25 years at the CIA, which would suggest he knows the agency well.

This is what Glenn Greenwald thinks of him:

In 2008, when we had more HOPE of re-establishing the rule of law and civil liberties, the extremist Brennan was NOT acceptable, but now we are resigned to accept that "Brennan is merely a symptom of Obama's own extremism in these areas, not a cause. This continuity will continue with or without Brennan because they are, rather obviously, Obama's preferred policies."
