World's First Genetically Modified BABIES Born

by Michael Hanlon | Daily Mail

The world's first geneticallymodified humans have been created, it was revealed last night.

The disclosure that 30 healthy babies were born after a series of experiments in the United States provoked another furious debate about ethics.

So far, two of the babies have been tested and have been found to contain genes from three 'parents'.

Fifteen of the children were born in the past three years as a result of one experimental programme at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science of St Barnabas in New Jersey.

The babies were born to women who had problems conceiving. Extra genes from a female donor were inserted into their eggs before they were fertilised in an attempt to enable them to conceive.

Genetic fingerprint tests on two one-year- old children confirm that they have inherited DNA from three adults --two women and one man.

The fact that the children have inherited the extra genes and incorporated them into their 'germline' means that they will, in turn, be able to pass them on to their own offspring.

CONSENT matters.

I'd like to see the document where these people were advised of the risks, benefits and alternatives to being born with 3 genetic parents.
Who knows what may come of this? NO ONE, and so no one is who is qualified to play this game.

Why though?

Life progresses naturally.

This is sick!

Disgusting and

unnatural.

That something is "unnatural"

That something is "unnatural" is not a valid argument anymore, in my opinion. Almost everything we eat, from plant to animal, has been bred or coaxed into a form that benefits humans. "Unnatural" is "normal" to almost every person on this planet.

wow! we've come so far!

3 parents, huh?

There is the man being sued for child support for donating semen to a lesbiancouple now, too. All this makes for very muddy waters about parents, which makes very muddy waters about parent's rights... the kind of muddy water where sharks like to swim.
And I will simply ignore the biological implications, I presume those are evident by the reply below.

a great example of

just because we CAN do something doesn't mean we SHOULD be doing it... are they going to tattoo the kids so their future potential mates will know what they could be getting into?
