The Problem With Most Conspiracy Theories

The problem with most conspiracy theories is they make one very wrong assumption. This assumption goes against everything we know to be true. That assumption is: the Government is adept enough to do something sophisticated, coordinated, and secret.

Simply put, the Government is a collection of power-hungry bureaucrats each competing to get more power, wealth, or influence. They have competing interests and work against each other more than work together. While individuals may or may not be involved in things we deem 'conspiracy', the obvious reality is Governments are just not good at anything other than waste.

I am not advocating anything here other than those who support various conspiracy theories need to address this issue. Any conspiracy theory that involves a large amount of people, or sophisticated coordination seems logically implausible. People do not keep secrets, especially if many people are involved, and Governments are inept at doing the most basic tasks.

So, when discussing conspiracy theories, please address this issue. Without addressing it I believe there are serious logical holes in any assertion.

/EDIT
I would also love to see the issue of 'who' addressed more. When AJ was on Piers he was asked 'who' did 9/11. AJ either had no answer or decided not to give one. I think the movement would be best served trying to answer that. The mysterious 'government' or 'NWO' answer just doesn't work for most people. I am honestly asking, not being patronizing.

meaningless

your definition of expertise is quite a bit too broad.

Under that definition, any dirtbag with a youtube account has expertise.

In the real world if one really knows a subject, there are often things that are counterintuitive about it. Fake experts don't catch them. Real ones do. Take economics for example. A democrat, thinking one can inflate endlessly through the miracle of Keynesianism, argues it is evil to not give MORE handouts. A libertarian, understanding economics and Austrian theory, knows that there is a price and an effect for everything, no free lunch, etc. Yet by your definition, anyone with a modicum of curiousity is an expert.

You're not advocating liberty, you're advocating ignorance and sloth.

Well said one eyed man

you are the second one eyed man that walked into this room full of blind people. The first was the OP.

Incredible how backward some

Incredible how backward some peoples viewports can be. You're the one coming here, calling people names for their beliefs. You're the one generalizing every single person who doesn't believe the official 9-11 story as a "kook" who blindly believes a theory. I don't see any of that from the so called "truthers". You're just projecting that.

You make no sense

first of all, I clearly stated that I don't know what to believe about 9-11.

That means, for the slow of mind (you and some others here) that I don't buy into any version, not even the official version. So, again, let me spell it out for you...I could not possibly be "generalizing that every single person who doesn't believe the official story is a kook".

I do say that people who pretend to have all the answers and pretend to be experts in things that they aren't experts in, are kooks. That I will say. If that is you, wear the shoe that fits. if not, then don't.

Back to school for some reading comprehension.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

Actually his comprehension is just fine...

...that you take umbrage to it points to the fact that it is your bonehead articulation skills that need some remedial help.

What a dolt. Here you are, lugging around a huge pail of assumption that you then pour on us with your original post above by pointing to 30 negative votes as evidence that kooks have overrun the site. So, by your musings, what is the reader supposed to think that you meant by such upchuck?

Whether you like it or not, the natural "comprehension" of your learned words would lead any intelligent literate reader to understand that it is your belief that all who down voted are kooks...or that the down votes somehow, in your addled mind, exist as evidence of "kooks" having "overrun" the sight.

Then you have the audacity, once called on your doltishness, to back-pedal the seatless unicycle you nakedly rode in on while accusing others of looking silly and needing help.

eyes roll

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

Wrong

I don't think anyone is saying there are "no" conspiracies ever. But that is the straw man that the mummy's basement no good loser alexmjones wannabes attack. And with your post, once again.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

And here you counsel others...

...to go "back to School for some reading comprehension" (sic)

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

You misuse (sic)

So back to school for that as well!

Whadda dummy...

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

yeah you got me

I guess my Mensa membership was in error. Instead I'll have to start believing in crisis actors to redeem myself. /sarcasm off

Mensa my ass...

...you had to look it up to know how to spell it. I'm sure that you were quite disconcerted when you realized the reference book didn't have many pictures...

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

yeah

again, you got me. See, I didn't believe in the whole crisis actor thing, or that anyone who watches a youtube video is an instant metallurgist/ demolition expert/ flight analyst/ pilot. That obviously makes me of low intelligence. See, if I were smart, I would simply buy into these things without asking any questions, right? /sarcasm off

special snowflakes

Conspiracy people are special snowflakes. Their arguments dont have to make sense because thats not the point. How many times have you been called stupid, idiot, sheep on this thread? They're showing off their 'uniqueness'. "Im so special because I know how the world really works unlike youre average idiot who's a sheep!"

Actually the only name

Actually the only name calling going on in this thread is you. I see people calmly trying to explain perfectly plausible theories and then people like you coming in and shitting all over them without so much as a single rebuttal to their arguments.

aw a little nerve there

they're all out to get you

Lol. Wow it must be weird to see the world through your eyes.

yep, definitely "weird" here

weird meaning unusual here...

yep, intelligent, educated, done some things with my life, not talking out my ass about the legal system without any basis for opinions, not speculating about science without knowing any, not spending all my time on conspiracy topics and alex jones websites, doing things in real life instead of online...yep for this site, all of that is weird, and jerks like you are normal.

Too bad it doesn't work out so well for you when you leave the house.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

Obviously, you are either an

Obviously, you are either an incredibly warped individual or a troll. You come in here being a complete douchebag to people who you disagree with, steadfastly refusing to add anything whatsoever to the discussion except insults. And that makes me a jerk? Ok.

yep sure

everyone that doesn;t believe in every crazy conspiracy is either a troll or a paid agent of the gubmint. That's the way it is. Yep, you;re playing with a full deck and I'm NUTSO

No, people who refuse to

No, people who refuse to address points that are made and simply go around insulting everyone are trolls.

how do you define "points"

some dumbass talking about a subject he knows nothing about and posting crazy crap to the internet which gets upvoted by similar dumbasses? I don't consider those points. They are instead fodder for lampooning.

Forrest...is that you?

What did I tell you about eating all of that chocolate at once? Boy it don't matter none how much you eat, nor how much energy it gives ya. You ain't never gonna be able to climb long enough, or high enough, to git to see the right side of the bell curve.

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

That's good

I'd hate to have to climb so far to the left that your arguments start sounding logical. That would be at least negative two standard deviations.

Hmmm...

That would be...from the left...not...to the left. Wit really isn't your strong point...stick to mowing lawns.

proves his point

Secrets cant be kept

Huh?

Care to take on at least one of the five that have already been given? How long were they kept? Howz about telling me exactly when you knew of the Greenbrier complex and how "common knowledge" it was since governments can't ensure compartmentalization and secrets?

Good god. As if security classifications don't exist and "National Security" threats couldn't possibly keep everything under cover. Ever hear of Edward Snowden? Yeah? He proves the point? Now tell all of the OTHER names that have come forward with the same information...the ones who couldn't possibly keep a secret?
