Wow.. This is like an
Wow.. This is like an inspirational smore! Alan Watts and Ron Paul are the two most influential people in my life so I'm pretty blown away to see this on here. BTW.. Genesis 3:19 for all those claiming blasphomy pretty much describes a similar view of our existence so, idk what the problem is. Great post!
The visuals were great. The
The visuals were great. The only thing that could possibly have made it better would have been if it had been read in the voice of Master Yoda.

Devoted to liberty why are there people with no tolerance for letting people believe as the will? Just because you may not believe in an idea does not mean it is attacking you.

Nice
I am happy this is on the front page. Open your mind before you can be free.

no thanks
This pantheism is completely antithetical to liberty. "Liberty" makes no sense without a notion of the "individual". That is why this has no business on the DP.
You open your mind too much and your brain will fall out.
Why is this on the front page?
Your video is well produced and I respect your view, although I completely disagree with this view and think it is utterly foolish. But why in the world is this on the front page of a Liberty/Paul website? I am confused. Can you take it off the front page please?

Nah, I believe in a Creator.
Nah, I believe in a Creator. Stating that hydrogen, given enough time, becomes conscious intelligence is the theory that's actually against common sense! Rocks are not life and cannot become life of their own agency or destiny. There was a time in the middle ages when people believed flies originated directly from garbage. This video is a return to that silly nonsense. Just because you have beautiful pictures of our planet and universe set to soothing music doesn't make this theory any less loony!
"Rocks are not life"?
I am composed of 100% dirt and water. I am made of the stuff of the planet Earth. Rocks are not life is not an accurate statement.
I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.
Yes it is a 100% accurate
Yes it is a 100% accurate statement. Just because sand is mostly silicon dioxide doesn't mean sand is a computer.
Let's test your theory to absurdity: You also occupy three dimensional space, in fact you exist 100% in 3D space. "Therefore the statement that space is not life is not accurate."
Anyway, that's just about what the stupid video claimed anyway. But I can assure you that space, like rocks, is not in the gray area between life and nonlife.
Assurance without evidence is no assurance
Space contains the zero-point field. It is surprisingly alive.
I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.
Well nobody has found a good
Well nobody has found a good way to prove a negative yet so I can't help you there. But if you want to believe a soup of subatomic particles is life be my guest. I do recommend you announce your discoveries so we can all be amazed at the abundance of life in the deep vacuum of space.
Go forth and speculate, yes!
But back all claims up with good repeatable observation.
I'm with you on this one...
all this pantheism/humanism, we are all one, we are essentially God- it's too close to the Luciferianism the elite believe for me... I believe I was made in the imagine of my creator, this world was made for me- it has since been corrupted and subverted but we will get it back and much more, maranatha!
They are not mutually exclusive
Are you creative? Do you paint or work on lawn mowers? I will use the lawn mower for analogy. You need a blade, so you get some iron ore, smelt it down, beat it and sharpen it. Now it is a blade. Is it still iron ore? Yes, but also a blade.
Now you need to do this for every part in that lawn mower. It takes you a long time, but you get it done, and eventually you take all these parts that are still "a pile of rocks" in some sense, and assemble them into a working lawnmower. They are still nuts and bolts and iron ore, but now they are also a working machine. The parts interact and working in concert, the job of mowing the lawn gets done.
Are YOU now part of that machine? Obviously not. And yet... without you, there would be no machine. And when does the machine stop being iron ore? Never. The iron ore is still there.
If you could make your parts speak and you asked a bolt what it is, it would tell you "a bolt" and if you asked it who its "god" is it might say "the lawnmower" because that is the Greater Good that all parts serve. It might SENSE the existence of some greater force beyond the lawn mower, it might even remember you as that force that guided it from ore to bolt. But how can it ever understand you? It's ENTIRE UNIVERSE is a lawn mower.
When contemplating The One, I find it helpful to sort out that which I can know from that which I cannot know. I cannot know the nature of my creator any more than the picture I paint can know me. (Changed analogies on you.)
Oh, and just because "blue" is blue and "red" is red, does not mean they are not part of the same picture. Rocks have the Song of the Spirit within them, they would not exist without it. Every atom is mostly empty space, things only slow down enough to take material form very, very rarely. The rocks slowed down enough to spend a little time being a planet where more life can exist. Is that "alive" or not?

I wasn't able to follow the
I wasn't able to follow the logical thrust of your monologue, I do agree with the lawnmower example but I didn't see what it proves other than we don't understand our creator. But to answer the question of "slowed down atoms", no I don't believe they are life.
There is no agreed upon definition for life. But a good start is that it is metabolism, mobility, reproduction and information. Rocks don't have all those attributes at once.
The video says,
"But from the moment it went bang in the beginning. That's the way it started. Organism like us, us sitting here were involved in it."
His argument is that intelligent life was implied (inevitable) from the very first nano second of the big bang.
And that, in my opinion, is pure 'flies come from garbage' theory.
"So in any lump of rock floating about in space, there is implicit human intelligence."
Errr no. That is an insult to reason.
We were there.
In any lump of rock, there is implicit mystery.
If you cannot understand the Creator, how do you feel so comfortable defining the Creation? Just because the rock does not meet YOUR definition of life, how do you know that the Creator agrees with you? Perhaps you paint AND make lawn mowers. The lawn mower can move, so it might fancy itself "alive" and judge the painting "inanimate." Are you still the creator of both objects? And to you, do they seem equally imbued with "you-ness?"
If you can't understand, I apologize for my inability to communicate clearly. If you are refusing to understand, there is not much I can say.

"In any lump of rock, there
"In any lump of rock, there is implicit mystery"
YES
"If you cannot understand the Creator, how do you feel so comfortable defining the creation?"
I don't, but I do feel comfortable making observations of the creation. Viz mathematics and physics, and also of more complex subjects such as the question: what is life? Rocks, by observation are not life. A lawnmower by observation does not have consciousness, therefore it cannot 'fancy itself alive'.
By speculation rocks and lawnmowers may be alive and have consciousness. But every observation has proven otherwise.
Although...this would explain
Although...this would explain how "guns kill people".

lol!
You are content with defining life, I try to avoid it. It is not mine to decide, and I leave room in my imagination for the possibility that my notion of "sentience" is also prejudiced by my experiential bias. It does not "live" or "think" like I do, but I do not presume to say that means it is not alive or not thinking:

Rocks are not in the gray
Rocks are not in the gray area between life and non-life. You are an idiot if you believe otherwise.
Aaah, but enwo, even rocks were created by the almighty
God, the father of heaven and earth. No?
This video essay is not claiming that human life came from rocks, imo. It says we are all parts of the dynamic universe and connected :-)
I did not hear him say we are
I did not hear him say we are parts of anything. He is saying WE ARE the universe.
"Don't differentiate yourself and stand out against this and say, 'I am a living organism in a world of a lot of dead junk, rocks and stuff'".
Maybe someone can direct me to some literature about what the concept of "freedom" means within pantheism? I don't know what "freedom" means without a conception of the self, property rights, free will, etc. Thanks.
The only section I cringed on this video is at 1:44 where
"human intelligence" is claimed to be implicit in the created world. I would rather have it left as "intelligence" with its divine origin in tact.
Otherwise, my favorite John 17 'prayer of Jesus' repeats how he wishes that we believers may be one, as Jesus and the heavenly father are one. It is a mind-boggling image to me: Christ in us (through faith & physically through eucharist) and we in Christ and "God the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all that is seen and unseen". I am not a theologian, but this sounds like "the Universe", that IS indeed connected with even me - spiritually, mentally and physically! :-)
Yes, I love and praise the Creator and everything created, "seen & unseen", known & unknown to me. . . even the rocks & sand on the beach.
lulz
Don't differentiate myself from rocks? And If I continue to think about this pantheism it will become common sense? I Guess I need to spend more time in the pot smoking part of this forum before this becomes "common sense"?
T&H, thanks for the relief from the frenzy of daily chores!
How true that our (TV-induced) common sense is rigged to make us feel as if we are minute powerless isolated strangers & aliens in this chaotic world, owned by elites.
Wonderfully energizing to come to the "new kind of common sense" that we are continuous with the Universe - from the beginning of time to eternity :-)

Allen Watts and Allen Watt
I really enjoy listening to both of them. A couple of the recordings I've listened to by Allen Watts REALLY make you think. (there are lots of good ones on youtube)
Imagine if these type of insights were being presented to school children instead of fitting them with RFID wristbands.
