Guy dropped off laptop for me to repair and referenced a commercial on TV

A guy my wife does some typing for needed his laptop looked at because it's running slow, acting strange, etc. He brought it by and dropped it off for me this morning and told me he had considered going to some website that claims to clean up your pc remotely. I asked him what website? He said, "you know, that company that keeps advertising on TV" I laughed and told him he would have to be more specific than that...I've been off TV for over a year. He looked at me kind of strange and said "you never watch TV?" I told him nope, never...and its one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life.

What about sports he asked? Nope, I tried to watch sports shortly after unplugging from the box but even sporting events are seen though a new lens after tuning out for just a few weeks. The players and commentators are exposed as sell outs. They all appear to be Corporate shills, they seem to pledge blind faith to the state through unwavering patroitism, and the whole events look like meaningless distractions.

It's the first year that I have no clue who all the quarterbacks in the NFL are/were and had I not seen the front of a local newspaper in an outdoor rack I wouldn't have known who played in or won the NCAA championship. I used to know who was hurt and how many points were scored in most games. I used to bet with a bookie and all that mess.

I spend most of my time now online, outside, or actually doing stuff. Those of you still in the habit of watching TV should turn it off for a month and see how different the world looks when you are not being told what to think, what to buy, and who you should admire. I was stunned how much influence TV had over me. I honestly never thought the programing was having any effect on me at all. I was SO wrong.

Tried 3 times now

I tried quitting tv 3 times now....I unplugged it and the longest I stayed away was 3 weeks. I always went back. It is like a drug .I have a roommate now, but I'm looking to buy a house. When I do I will not be getting cable.

I hope he thinks it over and...

gives it a try! =)

HOW THE HELL

DID you manage to stop watching tv, god bless your soul that's got to be the hardest thing to overcome. I would at least try to watch sports but no tv at all, I applaud you sir.

Not the hardest thing for me FreedomFighter

I started drinking when I was 14 or 15 and breaking that habit was the hardest for me. I lost my home and a lot of my "stuff" since 2009 and one of the things I got tired of hauling around was our big TV. I ended up giving it to a fraternaty located near where my daughter goes to college. She hangs out there with her friends a lot.

It did take me a while to let go of sports and nascar. Those were the last things I stopped watching. It got to the point where I had to keep the volume down all the time anyway because the commentators made me wanna puke. Now all sports seem like nothing more to me than heavily State subsidized distractions. It might be like you trying to watch pro wrestling now...unless of course you ever liked pro wrestling.

Anyway, the DP, youtube, and podcasts provide me with so much content I don't miss the TV a bit. Podcasts are great for me when my wife is not around and I get tired of the silence. There are SO MANY GREAT podcasts for free download all over the web. I've learned more since I turned off the tube than all my 16+ years of school combined (I was an idiot and got a bachlors degree but my dad pretty much demanded that I attend college and he paid for it so what the hey...)

Anyway, if you have a thirst for knowledge and truth and you have an internet connection, you can get off TV in short order. Won't be long before it will become painful to watch. If I go to a friends house and they are all veggin in front of the boob tube, I go outside and smoke a cigarette. 9 times out of 10 my friends choose me over the TV. However, if one of them has money on a game or whatever...I sometimes lose. But I can only take TV for about 15 minutes and then I jet. It seems so retarded for us all to sit and look at the box now. lol. Only my wife and 1 other friend of mine have been able to break free from the push programing propaganda device. As more people wake up, they will start to notice the direct relationship between TV and: irrational fears, low moods, junk food cravings, illogical and impractical representation of reality, and how much TV shuts down your brain.

Like I said in my post. I had NO IDEA TV was effecting me both mentally and physically....but it was!

I've done it as well

And it's odd at first but you quickly find time to do things you should have been doing before, like getting outside, playing with your dog, reading, cooking, conversing, etc.

I still watch sports, but even as a life long Packer fan, I don't have the same excitement that I traditionally have had. Commentators getting on their soap boxes to spew out statist garbage certainly hasn't helped.

I am on a Mission to tell Everyone

I tell everyone I'm in contact with, in one way or another, why not to watch television. It is corrupt, state run garbage, with very little or no truth to it.

If I get the opportunity, I go on to explain in detail, with example after example that the television programming, hollywood, etc....are purely brainwash instruments. Most find it hard to believe and there is a threshold where one will just be shut out completely when explaining. But hey, every dose of truth counts!!

Anyways....no cable TV here, but there are still channels on the television regardless.

What we need is a new entertainment network. That is the key, entertainment. People who visit yahoo, or watch Fox, are being first and foremost...entertained. Most of the truthful news outlets are all about news and nothing else....unless someone has a huge interest in national events, they won't be going to the truthful sites.

Welcome

Have been of that drug now over 12 years. Most liberating thing I have ever done.

The way I hear the propaganda of the day without TV

is by tuning into the Red radio station on the am dial or tuning into the Blue radio station on the fm dial when I'm in my car. Of course after turning off the idiot box, trying to listen to Rush, Hannity, that old woman on PBS and any of their other socialist programs is pretty painful. I can't ever keep it on either station for very long...it causes me undo stress when I hear so many lies and contradictions and can't reach over and smack the idiots.

The other thing that is impossible to do anymore is read a daily news paper or the USA Today. Its embarrasing how all forms of media (until the internet) have all pushed the same agenda and covered the same stories since I've been alive and I was none the wiser. How could I have blindly accepted that the only information I needed to know would be presented to me via, TV, Newpaper, and talk radio? And how come I never questioned the validity or the truth value of what I was consuming? For years I would buy a USA Today newpaper and go into a hooters or a buffalo wild wings, or some other bar and grill and sit at the bar, watch ESPN, drink beer, and read my pretty colorful paper. Oh, I was in my comfort zone then baby!

One thing about taking the Red pill...their is no turning back. No one I know has gone down the rabbit hole and discovered anything and afterwards been able to say oh damn, this is uncomfortable to know, I think I'll just pretend nothing ever happened.

I'm about 4 years into my awakening but there are still rare occasions when I reminsce about some of the good times I had as part of the sheeple.

But nothing has changed me as a person more than no longer living on a hamster wheel chasing my tail and wondering why so much of life didn't make any sense.

Even though the truth is often disturbing...learning the truth makes nearly everything finally make sense. My brain used to try and force square pegs into round holes in so many areas of my life that I could hardly think straight. I used to be a rabid insomniac and my mind would skip from 1 worry to the next. Those days are gone forever. I sleep like a baby every night. I almost never worry about anything and even though I still enjoy the occasion recreational mind trip, after being a heavy drinker for 35 years, my brain no longer requires being pickled in order for me to relax.

I think our brains get scrambled by TV, lies, and so many things we are told by TPTB that go against rational thought. Where I used to constantly 2nd guess myself and was always thinking I must be missing something, I now know it was my brain being confused by a variety of mixed messages and conflicting signals. Now, there is no one I trust more than myself and I learn more each day.

Cheers,

i listen to rush on occasion

He does have some good points sometimes. Usually I will watch him on YouTube on my phone or at home. You must have a lot of patience to listen to him and those blue stations on your am dial though lol. It requires a significant bs filter to do so though lol.

Made a deal with the wife a few years back...

She could get a cat if I could cancel the cable.

Best. decision. ever.

When I see a TV show now, it seems instead like a bizarre parody of television. Its so over the top and ridiculous.

This person from thelastpsychiatrist.com says it better than I ever could:

Commercials are even worse. That attractive, well dressed woman who looks longingly at a passing two door Acura ZDX is a synthesis that you resist-- you know that they're selling Acuras, and you're not falling for it. You're so clever, seeing through it-- you know owning an Acura doesn't make you an attractive well dressed woman, nor will it attract such a woman. But what you don't realize you're learning is that this is what attractive well dressed women look like. Acura is selling Macy's. And Macy's is having a sale; for the right price you can be 25 forever.

That advertising agency probably just wanted to sell some cars today; not change the society you will want to participate in tomorrow.

I guess that's why they say: May the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows.

But you ain't thinking that far ahead.

Know what I mean?

We loved cats all our lives.

Mark Twain Has Lost a Black Cat.
From the New York American.

Have you seen a distinguished looking cat that looks as if it might be lost? If you have take it to Mark Twain, for it may be his. The following advertisement was received at the American office Saturday night:

A CAST LOST - FIVE DOLLARS REWARD for his restoration to Mark Twain, No. 21 Fifth avenue. Large and intensely black; thick, velvety fur; has a faint fringe of white hair across his chest; not easy to find in ordinary light. - Lost Cat Classified Ad, 1905

We never even looked at anything remotely looking like a talking-picture-box.

OK, maybe a Nickelodeon. But it was silent.

With the weather so nice, I challenge people to cancel TV..

subscriptions for the next few months. First of all, you will have an extra $50-100 monthly to take your wife or girlfriend out or whatever else you may want to do. You will probably lose weight since you will likely be more active. Your critical thinking skills will improve because you aren't sitting around like a mindless drone all day receiving other peoples' opinions. Also, being in the sunlight increases melatonin and can help potential depression in a natural way.

I dare you to cancel your TV subscription.

Lol

I never understood this argument. "The sun is out, why would you be under shelter?!" There are more productive things you can do inside than out.

It's better to watch others' opinions even if you disagree with them, and take all news you watch with a grain of salt, recognizing there is no such thing as unbiased.

Also sports have absolutely nothing to do with it. Most of those people aspired for their whole lives to get there, and are living out their dream. I'm not saying there is zero foul play, but you're going to far to insist that the only purpose of national sports is a distraction and to use the role models to brainwash us....

I do not agree with this whole "completely ignore anyone who disagrees" thing.

By choice I get all my news online, I don't watch TV because I just don't, not because I put artificial limitations on watching things simply because I completely disagree with what is being said on them. I simply try view everything with an open mind.

Sports have a lot to do with it

Like the Boy Scouts, sports tend to be preparatory to war.

You must have responded by mistake to me...

Personally, I didn't say anything about sports. However, MPM broadcasted sporting events are definitely used to push story lines to some extent... Stealth jets flying over the stadium, special insignias worn to promote some mainstream cause, etc.

As far as your first statement: "There are more productive things you can do inside than out." That could be true or false depending on the situation. For instance, right now I could be outside laying out for my chicken coup, but instead I'm writing this reply.

Further, I never said anything about ignoring people that disagree with you. To the contrary, I've said in more than one of my posts that - "If you're only talking to people that agree with you, you're not changing any minds."

You are putting words into my mouth.

I simply challenged people to stop watching television for a while and stated some potential benefits. I didn't say - "Cut yourself off from the world completely." I didn't say anything about not interacting on the internet or the like.

Other than popping in a movie once in a while

as soon as my wife leaves the room the TV either gets muted or turned off completely. Been living "unplugged" for about 3 years now. Once you do turn it on you quickly realize how absolutely pointless most of the programming is.

Nowadays, I find YouTube is my "TV" and I really enjoy watching Documentaries (Pro or Amateur) about REAL ISSUES like politics, Nature, History etc.

However, as someone who works in advertising, I'd like to point something out that most companies like YouTube are doing more and more: Targeted Content.

When you go on YouTube and search for something, the results you get will be arranged for you based on your past viewing or search history. Media companies sell this as a benefit to the consumer to help "find content they want faster" However, this is just a way for them to keep your interests narrowed down.

So, I regularly flush my browsing history, cookies and cache so that I get as broad of a search result as possible. Many consumers have expressed these concerns as well so I'm hoping this trend may eventually end as the Internet experience becomes more organic and fluid.

I Mostly Watch

youtube videos from my subscribed buddies. That way I get the subjects I like without having to do a lot of searching. Most of the time there will be plenty of other videos to the sides of the ones that come from my email.

skippy

Right

I haven't signed up for a YT account but I bookmark my favourite "channels" and check them out frequently as well.

Good point

After going cold turkey for years, I recently began to monitor it and figure out what the daily talking points are, so I know how the system is going to F me today. I confess I enjoy Fringe, but end up watching it online anyway.

New Online Video Games

also push the NWO agenda.

skippy

I have been a gamer all my life from the 'Commodore 64' days

And I am completely over MOST excessively violent games. I am a very emotionally aware person so if games stress me out or make me anxious they are of no benefit or value to me. I'm not saying violent games make me violent, they just upset me and that's not what games should be about.

And I must agree that there may be elements of the NWO in gaming because I refuse to believe that an industry who's sole limit is IMAGINATION is so unimaginative. Either they're pushing an agenda or they're just keeping up with the status quo. Or both.

Either way, I can't control what games get made but I can sure control my wallet.

My opinion changed a few weeks ago...

I have enjoyed the Halo franchise. A few weeks ago, a super-intelligent teenager told me that Halo and Call of Duty are competing for their audiences.

That "woke me up" some more. I still enjoy Halo, but I also am now hearing (from the Talking Heads song "Life During Wartime"): "The sound of gunfire, off in the distance, I'm getting used to it now."

And I'm not so sure I want to be used to it.

If I'm used to it, will I be able to differentiate the game being played in the other room, from my neighbors being violated? (With our house, perhaps next?)

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.
