I hear you

Being Ron's son means nothing. Look at Howard Buffett and Warren Buffett. We have to judge him by his actions. People say that he is just playing the politics game to win, which his dad refused to do. But what does that say? Doesn't that mean that he is being deceptive in a way? Do we really want to promote that kind of political game, even if it means having a president that is friendly to liberty? Did not many of us become inspired by Ron because of his openness and honesty? Frankly, Rand has never said anything that inspired me. I don't know, may be I am too hardcore libertarian. I will keep an open mind, but I am very skeptical of Rand.

“With laws shall our land be built up, but with lawlessness laid waste.”

it's really simple

Rand does not want any of the neocons to have the ability to throw flames at him, like they did Ron.

It's already very hard to win, but when the establishment can throw fire at you, it makes it nearly impossible.

Michael Nystrom's picture

Yeah, its politics

And we're watching it being played methodically. Every move from now on is like a chess move on a giant board. But we have no idea how long this game of chess has been in play.

It might have been when Rand was a kid, and visited his dad in Washington and saw the president and said to himself, "Man, I want to be that guy."

But there is no question that Rand has got it all mapped out. It will be fun to watch how he maneuvers. In a way, it is like watching the Hunger Games. Everyone will throw everything they've got at him. So he's got to placate the restless in the GOP so they're comfortable with him. The said, "prove your loyalty - go kiss the Western Wall." And so he did.

Brilliant. But is he hiding a pistol in his boot, like in Valkyrie? Or has he turned to the Dark Side already like Darth Vader? Or is he just doing his best to learn to master being Lord of Ring?

it had to be tough to be his son sometimes

People have been flat out evil to Ron. My take is that he refuses to be his dad on some issues. Rand is certainly savvy. After he won the primary and the PR disaster on Maddow the next day... since then Rand speaks slower and more thoughtful.

Rand still makes me nervous on war issues. His action in the senate protecting our rights gives me faith. Rand is smart.

The next two years will be critical for him. Helping gain a few seats, proving to us.. proving to the base.. and out performing the party will be difficult.

Regardless.. he had my support. Its conditional... but he has it. If he continues to prove himself I will bust my butt for him.

And he doesn't go on Maddow anymore, either!

One time she was mock pleading with him to "call me."

It is an interesting chess game to watch. I'm not ready to throw my support there. It's like a grab bag - not sure what you're getting. But I'll watch and see.

Yeah 2014 will be critical. I saw a poll that said the Tea Party is at its lowest approval rating every.

Well, hit bottom and there is only one way to go.

im a promoter at heart...

The reason why the Tea Party is irrelevant is 1. It was a hijacked message. 2. Mitt Romney. 3. The GOP. And lastly.. the media including talk radio. Mitt Romney was a disaster for anything conservative. Thank GOD he didn't win!!!!

The TEA Party never knew who they were. It was a manufactured group that ran on stolen ideas from us. That is precisely the reason it hasn't remained a powerful force while we continue to grow. We gain seats. We gain influence because we deal in facts and sound philosophy.

I don't know what Ron has up his sleeve... but I'm thankful he is retired. This is when we will see him take the gloves off.

I shared the same passion as you in 07. I worked so damn hard... but it was my first try at this. I was accustomed to selling parties.. not politicians. I am sure your heart, like mine and many here will refuse to drop out.

If Rand runs, it will be no different

than when his father ran. The GOP will lie, cheat and steal like they did when Dr. Paul ran. I won't expect him to win the nomination unless things drastically change.

wrong

I predict California, Colorado, Alaska, and numerous other state parties will be controlled by Paul supporters, it will help immensely and it's how Reagan won in 1980.

Who are these state parties going to push Rubio or Jeb, I don't think so.

Michael Nystrom's picture

Thesis - Antithesis

Synthesis: We have no idea what it will be like. No freaking idea. It is going to be a C I R C U S. Remember the left did to Rand before - in the Senate Race? It was just dumb: Aqua Buddah, etc.

He made the other guy - I forget his name now - behave like a fool.

It is going to be a fight. I can already see the factions forming on the Daily Paul.

- It'll be exactly the same as before - he'll get screwed
- No it won't! He will win! HE WILL WIN!!!!!!!

It will be a tiresome fight, that goes on forever between the emotionally minded. Meanwhile, everyone will be so busy paying attention to that fight - because it will be like two megaphones in a room - that they'll fail to pay attention to what Rand is actually doing, and checking where he is in the standings of the people that matter:

Not just Republicans - That is just the semi-finals. He has to appeal to enough of the left as well. He'll have to try to cut off himself an ear of the Left, to put him over the top. Rubio's ace in the hole is the Hispanic vote - not to be racist. Rand's ace in the hole is us - or how much of us - the radical, rabid, libertarian base of his father. goes with him. Maybe with us, he doesn't have to pick up the left at all. A strong non-interventionist streak would work well with libertarians AND the left. That's two for one and a trick that no one else could likely play. Is that the card he'll play?

Or will he go full bore neo-con.

Like I said, this is like watching a one man soap opera. It should be good.

Good point Michael

But from the time I started on Ron's campaign in 2007 to 2012 to a possible Rand run in 2016, I see so much more possibility for Rand than I did Ron. From start party organizations lead by Paul backers, to Rand becoming main stream with everyday Repubs to Ron Paul going on speaking circuit for the next few years, it all helps. It will be interesting to see how it all evolves, at the moment I don't see anyone on the horizon I would push other than Rand. But you never know.

i agree

Rand has the chance to learn from his experience with his dad and own campaign. The thing I like most about Rand is that he us like his father when it comes to power. It seems power is not his goal either.

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

Michael Nystrom's picture

Interesting

point about Ron being on the speaking tour. It will be interesting to watch that evolve, and to see what kind of a role he plays in Rand's campaign.

And if he plays a prominent role, will the faction that is so anti-Rand then turn on Ron as well? Social dynamics like these fascinate me, because they are driven by belief, which I believe is fundamentally irrational. I think it is difficult (if not impossible) for people to differentiate belief from hope. So they hope for something so badly that they believe it.

I think if there are enough people doing that simultaneously, it does shift reality. It pushes it in the hoped for direction. But not if there aren't enough people.

So I think Rand's chances depend a lot on how the economy does over the next few years. If it starts growing again, Obama just trumps everyone. Of course he's like a witch doctor, but if he says, "See what I did," he and his annointed one are golden.

If Hillary decides to run, he won't have a chance

Serious. If she were to run he should drop out and wait a few years. She will run a slicker, smoother campaign, have media behind her. MSM will make him look like a hillbilly conspiracy theorist racist, Israel hating, taking away social security and food stamps monster candidate.

If Hillary runs, I'm gonna make it my mission to blast this

at one of her campaign events. Maybe we can coordinate and make it happen everywhere she goes.

PERFECT! Everywhere she goes... imagine that! (I like the song even better now.:))

What works against Hillary is that she's getting old

Do people really like her, or is she the Bob Dole of the democratic party: Just the most remaining, obvious person in line who has been waiting patiently her turn. I suppose it is possible, but it is hard for me to imagine.

But this is like dueling royalty: The Clintons vs. the Bushes. What if it came down to that in the Superbowl of voting - which is what the Presidential election is. Old Hillary Clinton vs. GWB-Affiliated Jeb Bush. Not a very pleasant thought at all. Not much of a choice, either.

The last time we really had a choice, was McCain vs. Obama. There was a choice - I mean in terms of it not being Coke vs. Pepsi. It was more like Coke vs. Dr. Pepper. McInsane was scary. He had the potential to be the next Hitler. But then again, so does this one.

And it is really nothing personal. It is just the nature of the unstable times and the types of people who seeking the office of the presidency. When times get unstable, people like to have one guy in command who claims to know what he's doing. They elect dictators. They get so scared that they say, "Please, take care of me. Please, fix it."

+ Hillary had that "fall" and she may have a "clot" or a "tumor." Maybe it is true, maybe we're reading a scripted script. I don't know. But at any rate - that is out in the "news" - so whether it is true or not (for whatever reason it may be true or not) - it will be used against here: The health scare tactic by Republicans.

Bush could play the young energetic guy.

And in this fight of Royalty, Rand is like the party crasher. He's like, "Hey I heard there was a party. Well, I'm here to play."

LOL. It should be good.

I'll give you her age is working against her

And I'll give you that she might just be the next obvious person.

Maybe she will not run because of her age or her health.

If she does run the female vote will be ridiculous and the hype over the 1st female President.... well.... I believe in some ways it will be bigger than the hype over the first African American President.

say it isn't so

Women voting for HC simply because she is female is as stupid, useless and demeaning as black people voting for BO because he is kinda black.

I absolutely agree

I am a female, and see no reason to vote for Hillary. I just think the "I am woman hear me roar" type of females will jump all over this with Oprah's help of course lol!

It is sad though and I do not want it to happen.

I am woman here me rawwwwwwwwwwrrrrrrrr

Hopefully that kind of women is on the increase and will be wide awake with the good of the country in their sights...

Ahhhhhh

I see. I had not considered that angle. The Oprah Vote (again).

Powerful. I think we will be in turbulent times in 2016. We'll be looking for a dictator (it is what democracies always do when things fall apart: "Help! Please save me!")

I think Rand would make a better dictator than Hillary - and I speak purely from a marketing standpoint. If the economy is super crappy, people will look to the president as a source of strength and stability. We can't help it. We're primates. It is hardwired into us.

Robert Anton Wilson called humans "domesticated primates."

We are not primates

Michael, we are not primates - domesticated or otherwise. If you would like to see some of the differences, you can watch this. (3 parts totaling 45 minutes)

No King but Jesus, no President but Ron Paul

just a thought..

Who says Ron Paul couldn't be VP to Rand? When I imagine the cabinet they would put together, it makes me smile.

I can dream right? :)

Now

That's a ticket I could get behind!

Hillary will be 70

my opinion younger candidates have won since 1992 - Clinton over Bush, Bush2 over Gore, Bush2 over Kerry
Obama over McCain, Obama over Romney.

Just don't see a 70 year old Hillary winning anything after a big attempt to take guns. I would hate to be a Democrat in 2016. Even Hard Core Democrat Union members I know are very upset about an attempt to take guns.

but

i would never ever underestimate the clintons---- they have deep ties,,, money, dirty as hell and well downright ruthless

ps--- i remember reading--- hillary finally backed down when the obama camp threatened to expose an affair she had with a staffer,,, supposedly a woman

don't know how much truth but i found that angle interesting and she did seemed to sputter a bit and let wrongs go unchallenged that many supporters were angry at,, and supposedly had merit

it would also explain maybe a qui bono relationship between bill and hillary--- just don't get caught,,,, and bill screwed up---- and i can see hillary being the savior of the two--- wearing the pants in the family
cleaning up bill's mistakes, loose ends
