A bad intersection.Submitted by jimwill on Sat, 01/12/2013 - 13:41
There's a bad intersection where two highways cross.
There are trees overhanging the highways in both directions making it impossible to see the other highway. Accidents happen there quite frequently. One day a loaded school bus is hit by an 18 wheeler, causing the death of many children. The country is in an uproar over it! They demand the politicians DO something.
So what is the answer? Do they cut the trees and open the view out so other traffic can be seen? Do they put in a red light or stop sign? Do they reduce the speed limit approaching the intersection?
No. They want to go a mile out in each direction and put up expensive manned inspection booths where anyone driving those highways would have to stop and register, giving name and address and why they are driving that highway. (Don't worry about the side roads that connect to the highway near the intersection, that's called "black market", and anyway only criminals would bypass the inspection stations). And they really think that will stop any further accidents?
Makes about as much sense as the current calls for a gun ban/registry.
