Two armed strangers rescue man robbed at gunpoint...

Robbery victim wants to thank Good Samaritans who came to his rescue

by Drew Karedes / KHOU 11 News

HOUSTON -- A couple of strangers came to the rescue when a man was robbed at gunpoint. Now, the victim wants to say thank you to the Good Samaritans.

Police believe the criminal who was canvassing a neighborhood in the 2500 block of Wichita near Hermann Park had no idea what he was in for when he picked his target.

The victim in this case had just walked back to his car from a bar around the corner.

Did you catch this part of the story?

In the full story at khou.com the victim says this-

“I don’t believe in guns,” said Dorsey. “I don’t own a gun. I’m totally at the mercy of my saviors. They obviously sent two angels to help me. These people protected me when I couldn’t protect myself.”

I wonder if he believes in guns. now.

It's possible the victim thinks...

...that if there were tighter gun control laws that he wouldn't have been held up in the first place. It's not necessarily the case but just a possibility.

Or that the police

would have come to his rescue...

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.

Hah brilliant!

Loved that video.

Truely the only way to keep society safe, defend yourself and others! Restricting these powers of defence only to the police, simply gives the criminals an advantage in numbers.

There are problems with this . . .

if events occured exactly as described in the news story link. The man was robbed, but wasn't in immediate danger when the two strangers found him. The strangers pursued the robber and then shot at him and the robber returned fire. The robber was hit by fire from the pursuing men.
Deadly force can only be used to defend life or limb that are under immediate threat. Having youre stuff taken isnt such a threat.

One can understand their motive, if this story is true. That given - they showed extremely poor judgement. If they would have killed the robber, they would be in deep trouble.

If they have any brains at all (which we can question) they will likely never reveal themselves.

Me, Too

I doubt these guys will come forward.

Regardless of whether it is legal to shoot someone in the back (or front) when they're driving down the street, or fleeing, I question whether it is a good idea to shoot someone because a stranger points to them and says they'd make a good target (no matter what he said they did).

Who does that based on hearsay?

The guys in Mercedes sounded, shall we say, "young," "Immature," "drunk," or "half-cocked"? Like gang-members or wanna-be cops. Maybe it was two wealthy teens who play too many video games or watch too much fictional police-work, but it smells fishy to me, too.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

You might want....

....to check Texas law about when someone can use deadly force.

thank you . . . very good point made . . .

and I may have been incorrect for the laws of Texas.

I hold concealed carry permits from two states. In both those
states the two men would have been justified to use deadly force
if they came upon the actual attack where life & limb was immediately threatened. But not in the situation as described.
Similarly, if they had followed the robber (say in order to phone
his location to the police) and the robber had pointed his weapon at them first,
they would have been legally justified in these two states to use
deadly force to defend themselves.

Since both of my permits are recognized by the State of Texas,
I'll have to research the Texas definition of "Castle Doctrine".

Its important to check out the laws of the state where you are carrying. I should have done that before commenting. *I down arrow myself for not doing so !* If I'm wrong for Texas, I stand corrected. I won't edit the previous comment since its probably better for the discussion that it remain as is. These issues can make
the difference between being charged and put in prison or not.

Here's a good website with concealed carry information for those
who haven't seen it:

By the way - I have no sympathy for that creep robber. He endangered the life of his victim. He's lucky he wasnt killed, and I hope they lock him up for a long time.
Like others, I wonder if the victim believes in guns now ?!

AZ law might side with you

Shooting at a fleeing suspect is pretty shaky ground but this might be deflected by the degree of reasonable belief the armed suspect was on his way to do further harm (home invasion). Kinda grey there. I note there's no supposition that an arrest was made which would have empowered a higher latitude in use of force by the arresting citizen. This thing rests in the hands of prosecutors to start with.

Come to think of it, that's the first test of Texas law here. Who gets charged: the robber, the rescuers or all of them?

Interesting, wonder if charges will be filed

Not sure how TX law is worded.

Its Texas

They still believe in jury nullification there (thankfully). There is no way a jury of Texans would convict these guys.

Use things not People. Love People not things.

Give the dog an award but

the two guys should not come forward. They could get more jail time than the thief if their guns aren't registered. What were they doing driving around a night with guns?---I can just hear the questions.

Also there could be a revenge attack.

Nothing can be gained in coming forward.

Why would they need to be registered? I don't think Texas requires registration. I know here in Ohio they aren't registered. None of mine are, and it's not illegal.

Why are they driving around at night with guns? Because they can. What makes you think there is something wrong with driving around at night carrying a firearm? Don't you know crime happens at night as well? I think night time would be the best time to be carrying, though carrying all the time is ideal.

I was speculating as to what the police

might ask the good samaritans. I don't know what the gun laws are in Texas but I would not want them to get in any trouble for forcefully and effectively solving a problem.

See, vigilanties can be a good thing.

But the gang were in jail already and the sheriff got shot...

Not fatally but I'd have been pissed.

I agree with Jefferson that the only just way to take an individuals rights is by fair trial. We don't do this to protect the guilty but the innocent. What's the difference between vigilantism and Guantanamo bay?

That was funny that not only

That was funny that not only did he get shot, but then he also got attacked by a german shepard. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
