Surveillance Drones Coming to Orlando: Big Brother Will Be Enjoying Your Visit

Headed to the Magic Kingdom? The Drones will be too, if the Orlando Sheriff's Office has its way. They are 'experimenting with two surveillance drones they hope to release over the Orlando Metro skies this summer. Both Democrats and Republicans are concerned with the move, however: Doug Head, Democratic activist, said of the plan: "This is unwise and unnecessary. Sheriffs are supposed to be sheriffs, not the US Army."

Republicans are not silent on this matter, either. State Senator Joe Negron (R- Stuart) has introduced a bill to limit their use. I don't agree with this strategy, it is letting the camel in the door, and sets up the possibility to add more uses later, but I do see the logic of limitations. The Democrats do see the big picture on this one, and are seeing it better than the Republicans.

NYPD considers Drones, too. “Anything that helps us.”

Drones Over New York City? 1-13-13

In a world in which the NSA has access to everything, including - soon - one's bank accounts, because "the government is there to protect you", it was only a matter of time before the logical extension of abdicating all privacy was enforced in the city that never sleeps, and which ended up with 24/7 vigilant "alarm clocks" in the form of unmanned aerial vehicles, aka drones, "for the sake of security." From RT: "The head of the New York City Police Department announced this week that the largest local law enforcement agency in the United States might soon rely on spy drones for conducting surveillance. During an open conversation held Thursday between Reuters editor-in-chief Stephen Adler and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, the chief of police confirmed that New York’s boys in blue aren’t entirely opposed to acquiring an unmanned aerial vehicle for the sake of security. “We’re looking into it," Kelly reportedly told an audience at the 92nd Street Y Thursday evening. “Anything that helps us.”

...introduced a bill to limit

...introduced a bill to limit their use. Please.

What's the bill five or so decades ago congress passed that allowed the military 28 days of undeclared war, war that congress didn't authorize, until the military had return to the United States?

The politicians who craft up these camel-nose-inside-the-tent bills are vexing. Just another ruse. Another one. Always creeping, they are.

Write something into existence saying Can Do X for This Long does just that -- and more! It invites acceptance where none was!

"to limit their use"

sorta how the "laws" against free speach are limited
and the "laws" against guns are limited

Irony

I was at a permaculture convergence today and many people from Orlando were upset for the govt ripping the gardens and food forests from their property and fining them 15k a piece for violating a land use ordinance... all the surrounding houses looked like shit in the pictures but the one with a beautiful garden is taken out?

What is happening to this world that this is tolerated?

Compounded grievance

and a dangerous move by the Orlando Police.

Let us hope that sounder wisdom and ethical principle prevails

Screw that...

Sounder wisdom? All this is gonna take is a bunch of us, nationwide, to blast these freakin' things out of the sky. How high are they? Like, 12GA range? 5.56 range? This ain't hard folks...
Personally, I advocate violence against these un-manned toys. Big Brother has no business snooping around MY property!!..and I would treat a drone as I would anyone else who I caught snooping and un-invited. Game Over - Bee-otch!!!

Presently

the implementation of these drones is still a formal proposition; once they are enacted and violate your personal agency however, the virtue of your conscience is up to you

dont forget

NYC will have drones shortly as well.

Thanks!

The link no longer works for me either. I will update my post with your link. BTW, love the tagline.

Link ain't workin'...
A few thoughts here: The Sheriff is the big power person...the County Sheriff trumps Federal authorities. So, this one needs an education on surveylance and Constitutional ammendments. Also, DW already has Orwellian surveylance and "security". At the main entrance as you go through the turnstiles, you come into a main courtyard with a semi-circular building on either side of Main Street. On top of these buildings are lots of cameras that look at every person coming into the park...they're hooked-up to HS et al. and linked with face-recognition software. I haven't been to Wally World since the early 90s, but have been told they now require a thumb scan upon entry...can anybody confirm/deny this?
As far as drones go, I'm thinkin' there may be a new shooting sport blossoming!! As a member of the free-market believers' club, I think I'm gonna become an entrepeneur!!! LOL

Sorry, bcfast :(

It should now.

Paint up the drones to look like Mickey Mouse . . .

now there, feel better about being in a prison, fellow Americans ?

P.S. - the thing I most remember about Disney World Orlando was that 'the Tree of Life' from the movie 'Lion King' was made out of plastic. It was a family outting years ago, before I woke up. Would never go back there.

Maybe the people of Orlando

Maybe the people of Orlando will put roofs on all of their back yards and put mirrors on them to deter government spy drones checking them out as they sunbathe nude.

Now there's a novel idea

that just might work! :)

If they are going to legally

If they are going to legally spy on law abiding citizens then it is our duty to make doing so as hard as we can. Pot growers used to use big camo tarps to hide their fields and we should use huge Mylar sheets to cover any areas that we don't want to be spied on. If we can't shoot them down for flying over our land then confound their attempts legally.

The Village

Anyone ever see that movie? Food for thought me thinks.

skippy

Agreed. I changed the story topic because someone already had ..

posted it, so I apologize for the confusion.
