Hagel on our team - let's get behind him

On February 23rd, 2012 graduate and undergraduate students from the School of Foreign Service had the opportunity dine with Senator Chuck Hagel as part of the Mortara Center's Illuminati Dinner series. The Series provides an opportunity for students to spend an eveninig with Georgetown's distinguished practitioners. Senator Hagel, Distinguished Professor of National Governance, spoke on some of the most pressing foreign policy dilemmas facing the United States in the years ahead. Utilizing his perspective as a former senator and his present involvement in various governmental advisory capacities, Senator Hagel discussed the relative geopolitical power of the US and the implications of the Arab Spring for U.S. foreign policy.

Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate, Senator Hagel was president of McCarthy & Company, an investment banking firm in Omaha, Nebraska.

He also serves on the Board of Directors of Chevron Corporation and Zurich’s Holding Company of America; and the Advisory Board of Deutsche Bank America, and is a Senior Advisor to Gallup.

...not by a long shot, but if Bill Kristol is leading the opposition to Hagel's appointment, Hagel must be doing something right.

Hagel is not on anyone's team. He was selected to fill a role, and I'm sure he'll end up playing that role very well for the establishment. Do we really think that the PTB would install someone whose foreign policy is antithetical to that of what we've had for decades? He is either in the dark or on the take.

Coming from Obama, he is probably the best pick we could have hoped for. The question is if he is going to be a puppet for Obama and just do what he says, or if he is going to openly come out against Obama's policies. We will just have to see.

Personally I like Hagel and I hope he remains his own man. Much better than whoever Romney would have picked.

I will, however, hold him accountable, and speak out when his actions oppose Liberty, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution.

There is a reason for obamas agenda. Procede with immense caution.

I don't care what party they belong. Party is meaningless. Uphold and defend the Constitution, Bill of Rights, is the solemn oath that was taken, period.
