House GOP 'Seriously Entertaining' Debt Default Idea

Now that the magic coin is no longer on the table, Politico is kicking off the next stage of the debt ceiling fight with a report that House Republicans are "seriously entertaining dramatic steps," including letting the government default or shutting it down altogether. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers even went on the record with the shutdown threat, saying "I think it is possible that we would shut down the government to make sure President Obama understands that we're serious." Republicans will continue to hold both options over the head of the country—particularly the shutdown option—unless they can get the president to commit to serious spending cuts in this year's budget.

I know it will be bad, but

I know it will be bad, but can we please just get this over with already?

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

Once again, "They shoulda listened to Ron Paul."

Instead, they choose a douche like John Boehner for Speaker.

GOP Not Even Mildly Entertaining

Just another remake of the same bad movie we've seen time and time again. At least Hollywood usually has the sense to stop after the second one. Yawn.

HAHAHA! "This years budget"

HAHAHA! "This years budget" They haven't passed a budget in 3 or 4 years!

Live Free or Die Trying

Don't make me laugh.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers is a hard-core RINO. You can always tell she is lying if you see her lips move.

An evil puppet show.

Corporate control to capture humanity as debt slaves, with legal innovations, whereas historically the puppet masters have worn a visible face, Now they hide behind prefered stock in central banks.
Highly organized, cleverly disguised, and powerfully promoted, secret combinations lusting for power, gain, and glory. Humanity will have to recoginize and choose between good and evil

I don't know why the media and politicians keep propogating the idea that we're going to default. It's misleading at best, and a lie at worst. The debt service is a tiny percentage of incoming tax revenue. That gets paid first, and then they'd have to *GASP!* pass a budget that incorporates spending cuts. Holding the line on the debt ceiling does not force default, it forces prioritized limitations on spending.

The giant monster in the room is not the danger of debt default, but one of fiscal responsibility, which is apparently a whole lot scarier to politicians.

I was sick of all the ridiculous rhetoric the last time they shuffled this off without really dealing with it, and I'm sure we're going to hear all of it again.

BTW, if it keeps getting raised, it's not a ceiling, so quit calling it that.

Don't know why

you were downvoted. You appear to be correct. They say the exact same thing near the end of this article:

Fix your dang roof first! A ceiling can wait till fair weather.

Government is spending through their roof! Leaking all over their place!

They have our whole country awash in liquidity! "Legal Tender." Cash flow... Yet, the ain't fixing their roof.

I will hire out fixing my own roof. I will not ask for government help.
I will then hire out fixing my own ceiling. I will not ask for free help.

Why must I pay tax for a government that cannot even fix their own dang roof? Why do they continually insist on raising their ceiling? ... And never fix their roof? Why do they live in such a swamp?

Just like they took an oath

Just like they took an oath that they wouldn't raise taxes right?

Government SOP is that

If you cross you fingers while swearing to an oath, it dont count. They all have crossed fingers.

never, ever, ever

going to happen.

Government cannot risk people losing dependency. They have gone from the great benevolent bestower of all morality and justice (/sarc) to a violent "service provider". The magic dies off pretty damned fast if those XTensofMillions suddenly have to find a way to fend for themselves. And do.

There will be no shutdown. It is too great a risk that the state would demonstrate its utter irrelevance and the fact that it is actually a net loss on the progress of humanity.

LIBERTY2ME's picture

They say they will shut down

They say they will shut down the Gov't to prove that they are serious about the debt ceiling.....
1)Heard that one before
2)I got news for ya....if you say "no and I'm serious, I'm serious I'm serious" then later say "ok I'll do it", for whatever reason...................wait for it...............that means.............wait for it..........YOUR NOT SERIOUS!!! Even if you get something you want out of the deal that made you say yes, this still means - your not serious.

They never said

they wouldn't raise the ceiling under any circumstances, even the tea partiers. What they did say is they were serious about cuts. That's how we wound up with the ones currently on the table (postponed by 2 months).

However, Obama said he won't negotiate cuts this time. So it looks like a game of chicken.

I say

would the last one out please turn off the lights and lock the door. Thanks.
