Breitbart: "In Israel, Rand Paul Tries to Shed Ron Paul's Poor Record"

This week, while media attention focused on former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and his controversial views on Israel, another iconoclastic Republican stirred controversy in Israel itself.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) visited Israel as part of a trip that will include visits with Palestinian and Jordanian leaders. In remarks to a Jerusalem think tank, Paul reiterated his view that U.S. foreign aid to Israel and other countries should end.

Paul’s opposition to foreign aid in general has stirred concern both in Israel and among Israel’s supporters in the U.S. Israel is the number one recipient of U.S. foreign aid, and uses the money to strengthen its defenses against terror and regional enemies.

Paul’s opposition has therefore provoked claims that he is anti-Israel--claims that he denies, and which echo concerns that long surrounded his father, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX).

In Israel, Paul attempted to make clear that his opposition to foreign aid is not motivated by antipathy to the Jewish state. “I would start a little more quickly with those who are enemies of Israel, and enemies of the US,” he said, according to the Jerusalem Post. “I would like to see their aid end more quickly. With regards to Israel, it could be a gradual phenomenon.” He added that foreign aid “sometimes clouds the sovereignty of Israel.”

Should the USA give $3 billion each year to Israel?...

NO.

And TO NO OTHER NATION EITHER.

END ALL FOREIGN AID.

If we're going to willy-nilly give out welfare then we should damned well keep it in this country - where it would be spent in OUR economy.

Not that even THAT is constitutional or moral.

But there ARE plenty of homeless Americans (many of them veterans) on the streets of this country after all.

So WHY are we giving out 55 BILLION in foreign aid every year???

THE FOUNDERS WOULD BE INCENSED.

Anyone who works for U.S.A.I.D. should be TRIED FOR TREASON AND THEFT FROM THE TREASURY OF THE UNITED STATES.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."

"In Israel, Rand Paul Tries to Shed Ron Paul's Poor Record"

Lol, and the Breitbart people think they actually espouse conservative views.

Neo-con trash.

Title is very misleading.

Title is very misleading. Rand Paul is simply trying to convince the other republicans that he isn't anti-Israel, even with his father not being.

Terrorism

Perhaps we should stop funding terrorism no matter who it's coming from...... ya think?

Let their brainwashing work to our advantage.

They think Ron Paul was anti-Israel (which is false and is evidence of media brainwash), and the author says that "In Israel, Rand Paul Tries to Shed Ron Paul's Poor Record", basically distancing Rand from Ron but in reality they have almost the same position, the difference is that Rand suggests something which is actually doable and could gather support from the actual people.

Ron IS RIGHT in wanting to end foreign aid cold turkey, the establishment IS WRONG but to undo the wrong done so far Rand's approach is the most realistic although longer.

wishy washy gradualism won't change anything

"The major problem with the opportunists is that by confining themselves strictly to gradual and "practical" programs, programs that stand a good chance of immediate adoption, they are in grave danger of completely losing sight of the ultimate objective, the libertarian goal. He who confines himself to calling for a two percent reduction in taxes helps to bury the ultimate goal of abolition of taxation altogether. By concentrating on the immediate means, he helps liquidate the ultimate goal, and therefore the point of being a libertarian in the first place. If libertarians refuse to hold aloft the banner of the pure principle, of the ultimate goal, who will? The answer is no one."

This is not about free markets or taxation,

this is about the constitutionality of foreign aid. In case you haven't noticed, there ARE arguments that foreign is indeed constitutional (I disagree). So unless that argument is won, that is, if foreign aid is ruled to be explicitly forbidden by the Constitution -very very long shot, if not impossible in the near, medium future-, then our next best thing is to gradually reduce it for nations that are not our allies to then try to cut it altogether, even to our "allies". The US WILL NOT end foreign aid cold turkey to everyone, get off that cloud.

We can EDUCATE others on the repercussions of foreign aid, and that will take time, but the only path to policy change regarding that issue is Rand's approach.

With the all or nothing attitude, especially regarding this issue, you'll end up with nothing. My goal is to help change things, not keep them the same...

YES! Thank you.

YES! Thank you.

in comment section, many agree with rand on cutting aid even to

israel. same trip, same things said, same events, just another different spin by another author, once again. oh ya, and a very uninformed person posting almost half-month old news, forget to mention.

you can find the exact same event written and titled differently by many other authors. talk about demonstrating your belief through this person's words.

"Poor record"!? Sorry, can't make it past the title

Rp was never anti Israel. He

Rp was never anti Israel. He was anti us sending endless money there and backing their own dangerous foreign policy.

He isn't anti-Israel

but the general message sent by his opponents is that he is, and that falsehood has followed RP endlessly.
