74 NO-HEDGE Sheriff Statements Regarding Your Rights - as of 1/24 - Any More? Open Thread

Get your Sheriff to Support The Liberty Amendment!

Reality Check: Most of these sheriffs support the federally funded the "war on drugs." Why not lead in with a 2nd amendment question and then after beating their chest about how much they support and defend the constitution, ask them where it grants the authority to do drug raids in the constitution?

1) Houston County (Alabama) Sheriff Andy Hughes
"As Sheriff of Houston County it is my job to protect the constitutional rights of our citizens. The second amendment is a right, not a privilege and shall not be infringed upon. As long as I am Sheriff of Houston County, I will not allow anyone to seize any firearms from law abiding citizens within this county."

2) Madison County (Alabama) Sheriff Blake Dorning
Gun Control Laws That Violate Constitution Won’t Be Enforced.

3) Scott Masher (Arizona) Yavapai County:
"As Sheriff, I refuse to participate or cooperate with any unconstitutional order that will infringe upon our 2nd amendment rights."

4) Fresno County (California) Sheriff Margaret Mims
"We don't need any more laws. Laws only work on people who obey the law."

5) Siskiyou County (California) Sheriff Jon Lopey
Declared that he was "... sworn to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and it seems we have more enemies that are domestic these days... "

6) Stanislaus County (California) Sheriff Adam Christianson
"I refuse to take firearms from law abiding citizens and will not turn law abiding citizens into criminals by enforcing useless gun control legislation."

7) El Dorado County (California) John D’Agostini
“The purpose of this letter is to go on record of re-affirming my oath of office and making it clear that I and my staff will never violate [our oath of office] by being pressured into enforcing any unconstitutional provision, law or executive order.”

8) Shasta County (California) Sheriff Tom Bosenko
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G6PUgRJ5tY

9) Del Norte County (California) Sheriff Dean Wilson
“I had spent a good part of my life enforcing the penal code, but not understanding my oath of office,” he told the audience. “I was ignorant and naïve, but now I know of the assault against our people by the federal government.”

10) Modoc County California) Sheriff Mike Poindexter
"I've been a public servant my whole life. First thing I protect is the people. That's who I work for, that's who I protect."

11) Larimer County (Colorado) Sheriff Justin Smith posted on CIAbook that he wouldn't allow unconstitutional proposals to stand.
"The Colorado Sheriff occupies this independent office which is not a subservient department of county, state or federal government."

12) Hinsdale County (Colorado) Sheriff Ronald Bruce
“I Will Protect Constitutional Rights…With My Dying Breath”

13) Martin County (Florida) Sheriff Bill Snyder
"...can't support Federal gun rules."

14) Oconee County (Georgia) Sheriff Scott Berry
"I am 100 percent totally opposed to any type of knee jerk reaction where yet again this country tries to solve a problem by 'banning' inanimate objects because they may be used by the mentally ill for the purpose of harm."

15) Gilmer County (Georgia) Sheriff Stacy Nicholson
"I, along with a large number (which is growing daily) of Sheriffs across the state of Georgia as well as the entire United States, have no intention of following any orders of the federal government to perform any act which would be considered to be unlawful or a VIOLATION OF ANY PART OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OR THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, nor will we permit it to be done if within our power to prevent it."

16) Paulding County (Georgia) Sheriff Gary Gulledge
“This sheriff will have no part in unarming law abiding citizens.”

17) Cherokee County (Georgia) Sheriff Roger Garrison
"will defend the 2nd Amendment against any infringements by the federal government and the Obama administration."

18) Madison County (Idaho) Sheriff Roy Klingler
"I personally am sick and tired of the government putting regulations in place that affect our personal rights, our property rights and the Constitution," said Klingler.

19) Johnson County (Kansas) Sheriff Frank Denning
The militia mentioned in the Second Amendment pertains to all able-bodied citizens capable of bearing arms. That is US! “to Keep and Bear arms” means, “to OWN and CARRY arms.”

20) Jackson County (Kentucky) Sheriff Denny Peyman
"American citizens already have given up too much power over guns..."

21) Pine County (Minnesota) Sheriff Robin Cole
Will Not Enforce Further Federal Gun Regulations.

22) Livingston County (Missouri) Sheriff Steve Cox
"I personally and professionally believe there are many other useful ways to better help in educating and protecting our population then by dismantling the Constitution of the United States of America."

23) Lawrence County (Missouri) Sheriff Brad DeLay
Signed Steve Heiss's Letter

24) Johnson County (Missouri) Sheriff Charles Heiss
"This means I not only have the duty to protect my constituents from incidents of crime, but I also have a duty and responsibility to protect and preserve the individual rights and liberties afforded and guaranteed to every citizen by our constitutions. This, Mr. President is a duty I fully understand, appreciate, and will carry out with great vigor and conviction."

25) Grant County (Oregon) Sheriff Glenn Palmer
“I will not tolerate nor will I tolerate any federal incursion within the external boundaries of Grant County, Oregon, where any type of gun control legislation aimed at disarming law-abiding citizens is the goal or objective,”

26) Coos County (Oregon) Sheriff Craig Zanni
"I have and will continue to uphold my Oath of Office including supporting the Second Amendment Rights of our citizens,"

27) Crook County (Oregon) Sheriff Jim Hensley said Tuesday he sent the same letter to Vice President Joe Biden that was sent Monday by Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller.

28) Douglas County (Oregon) Sheriff John Hanlin
"I will NOT violate my constitutional oath!"

29) Linn County (Oregon) Sheriff Tim Mueller
"We must not allow, nor shall we tolerate, the actions of criminals, no matter how heinous the crimes, to prompt politicians to enact laws that will infringe upon the liberties of responsible citizens who have broken no laws..."

30) Malheur County (Oregon) Sheriff Brian Wolfe
“I believe that the Constitution stands above all laws and executive orders of this Country. I want to be very clear that no one employed on our team at the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office will enforce or support any laws or executive orders that are not consistent with the Constitution of this great land.”

31) Charleston County (South Carolina) Sheriff Al Cannon
Those demanding harsher gun laws are “taking advantage of broken hearts” to push their agenda and restrict “a vital right” in the wake of the shooting massacre in Newtown, Conn.

32) Spartanburg County (South Carolina) Sheriff Chuck Wright
"I'm not going to confiscate weapons from people that are law-abiding citizens. I'm not doing it and I don't care what kind of orders come down."

33) Berkeley County (South Carolina) Sheriff Wayne DeWitt
“Quite simply, I am a firm supporter of the Second Amendment (the right to bear arms). In addition, I took the oath of office to support and comply with the Constitution of the United States of America of which the Second Amendment is attached.”

34 - 62) (Utah) Sheriff's Association
We, like you, swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation.

63 - 74) Perhaps ten more (Missouri) Sheriffs MAY HAVE signed some form of Johnson County Sheriff Steve Heiss's letter. Sheriff Michael Dixon, R-Osage County also penned some form of the letter, or signed it.
"World history has shown us that when a society does not possess the ability to defend itself it becomes ripe for victimization by criminals, and ripe for government oppression."

Following sheriffs FAILED the constitution test:

FAIL!) Smith County (Texas) Sheriff Larry Smith "Will not enforce an unconstitutional law that takes away firearms from law abiding citizens." What about 73 federally funded illegal searches and seizures without due process 10 days prior to all these grand comments about constitutional rights?

FAIL!) Mendocino County (California) Sheriff Thomas Allman
Rikess: Does that mean, you judge who has the right to carry a concealed weapon or not? Sheriff: Yeah.

FAIL!) Morgan County (Alabama) Sheriff Ana Franklin
Too bad SWAT shot a dog in december.

FAIL!) Curry County, (Oregon) Sheriff John Bishop
“I’m not picking and choosing what laws to follow,” Bishop said. “I took an oath to uphold the Constitution. If any of the executive orders are approved by Congress, I will follow them.”

FAIL!) Josephine County (Oregon) Sheriff Gil Gilbertson
“A lot of sheriffs are now standing up and saying, ‘Follow the Constitution,’ ” said Josephine County Sheriff Gil Gilbertson Give us MORE than that sheriff!

FAIL!) Canyon County (Idaho) Sheriff Kieran Donahue,
"I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, enforce the law, and protect my community, and that’s what I’ll do."
From Article: "The National Sheriffs’ Association has supported administration efforts to combat gun violence." <<< Sue these guys and this sheriff is sitting on the fence. Speaking up for political pressure only.

FAIL!) Multnomah County (Washington) Sheriff Dan Stanton:
"I support the rights of citizens granted by the Constitution, and have worked hard to ensure those rights are protected." Constitution DOES NOT grant rights!

Glad to see Fresno's Sheriff on board!

She has been known to hand out concealed weapons permits like candy to ANYONE who can qualify legitimately.

Many laws are terrible in the fresno area however the ability to carry IS available to those in the area thanks to Sheriff Margaret Mims.

Now the pot laws in fresno are getting TERRIBLE however but at least the ability to protect yourself in public is still possible in fresno county

Vince. Good work.

To all the contributors, thank you. Thank you for your work and studying and spreading the message. I swear, some of you guys and gals, I wouldn't mind you being my neighbors.

I move to front page this post how all posts are, where its on the left side of the page with its first few paragraphs readable and kept there for a week or however long this topic is hot OR to put this list as a highlighted headline off to the right somewhere by itself for a week or however long this topic is hot or indefinitely.

These sheriffs are doing good, and we should do good by them even if only it's introducing people to the DP, showing them we are legit, devoted to activism (to the extent of fury, occasionally) and that we're kicking the bad guys' arses.

DP today, DP tomorrow. Let's keep plowin'.

I received it as as newsletter email from...

Yes, please provide links/sources

I'm writing a letter to my Sheriff that I will fax in on Monday and I want to have a solid list.

Thanks for the work you've done in compiling. :)

Bunch of doubles in that list

plus I already weeded out a couple of unconstitutional ones... where is this list sourced from - I can find no reliable source.

Repeat

You have Al Cannon on there twice from CHarleston, SC

Sheriff Tim Mueller

of Linn County, Oregon was just on tv. He sent a letter to Biden saying he will uphold the Constitution.

BUMP...

and BUMP again for those sheriffs!

Updated.

Your thread.

The guy in Canyon County got sworn in Monday and that was one of his first actions in office. He was the FIRST in Idaho.

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.

Really seemed like he was sitting on the fence fishy...

He says he's gonna support the constitution then kinda contradicts himself no?

Yeah, well, I know the politics in the county

It is the county I lived in before we moved up here. My husband was elected PCP there, but then we moved. He sounded like he was trying not to scare to "old guard" to me. He is brand new on the job, no other Sheriffs in the state stuck their neck out at all. I think he was trying not to sound inflammatory, but like I said, it is your thread.

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.

You're onto something here...

We need to take this a step forward. We need to get Sheriff Richard Mack on this right now. The momentum is on our side, and he is the standard-bearer for the Constitutional Sheriffs movement.

I have a vision for this. It is a website separate from DP, or richardmack.com, that has a map of the United States on it, by county. Something like this...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dc/USA_Count...

Then, we color in each county (starting with the ones on this list), that have sheriffs who have gone on record saying they will defend their citizens from federal tyranny.

Below the map, by state, we list these counties, as well as their sheriffs office contact information.

Next, the approach will be to highlight and support each of these sheriffs through massive shows of public support (email campaigns, donations, etc).

Lastly, we will target the sheriffs in the neighboring counties, and ask them why they haven't taken it upon themselves to defend their citizens too.

When sheriffs who were too afraid to come out in favor of the Constitution see their neighboring counties' sheriffs enjoying widespread popular support, the social proof will compel them to join the cause. In this way, the movement will grow rapidly...

I am proposing that Alex Jones carves out a weekly portion of his radio show (like 1 hour every Friday) where Sheriff Richard Mack guest hosts, and interviews each one of these constitutional sheriffs one-on-one.

The widespread popular support for this movement will gain steam REALLY quickly. And the more the feds and "slave" state governments (like NY) put on the heat, the faster this brush fire will spread...

Who's with me?!

Use at will

and if folks want to lean on the list of REMOVED to clarify their statements... I can add them back into the list. Be sure to point to a link where the story was run by local news.

Denise B's picture

Very encouraging!

Hopefully the list continues to grow and grow...Thanks for posting! :)

Vince - correction needed to Canyon County.

Donohue is the SHERIFF as of Monday.
http://www.canyonco.org/Canyon-County-Home-Page/Home-News/Ne...

"Kieran Donahue was sworn in as Canyon County Sheriff, taking over for retiring Sheriff Chris Smith. Donahue defeated two GOP rivals in the May primary and won the November general election over an independent challenger. Donahue, who has been in law enforcement since 2004, is the former Chief Deputy of the Sheriff's Office. "

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.

Lane County Sheriff - says "NO"

Lane County Sheriff in Oregon Tom Turner says he will not join in with the dissent against gun control.
http://www.kmtr.com/news/local/story/Lane-County-Sheriff-com...

Why? According to the newspaper article (The Register-Guard 1-17-13): "Turner said Wednesday that he has bigger fish to fry at the moment - such as trying to run a sheriff's office in a county where budget cuts have ravaged investigative, patrol and incarceration efforts."
In other words he is more concerned with getting his government handouts so he can arrest more everyday people. When someone is trampling over our rights the sheriff does nothing.
I think he needs to hand in his badge.

I'm wondering how

taking 10 minutes to make a statement that he will obey his oath of office and support the Constitution would throw his "busy" schedule into chaos.

Agreed

He does not even know what is in the constitution. He also think the Supreme Court trumps a constitutional amendment. The constitution was not written in order to give BAR members exclusive jurisdiction to interpret it.

Frank McKeithen - Bay County Sheriff

Bay County Florida.

In light of recent events and questions concerning gun ownership, I would like to let you know where I stand on this issue. Let me first say that I do not take guns away from law abiding citizens, nor would I support any action that proposes to limit our rights to gun ownership. As a hunter, sport shooter and gun owner, I firmly believe in the rights guaranteed to us by the Constitution. As the Sheriff of Bay County, I would strongly and actively oppose any legislation that infringes on our Second Amendment rights, as I have done on numerous issues in the past. I have taken an oath as Sheriff to support, protect and defend the Constitution, and fully intend to honor that commitment.
