Little Girl's Dog Passes On to Heaven - Sends Letter To God - Receives Reply!

A letter from the Post Office.

We don't know who replied, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office who understands LOVE..........................
Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month.

The day after she passed away my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was
crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.

She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to
heaven, God would recognize her.

I told her that I thought that we could, so she dictated these words:

Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog?
Abbey died yesterday and is with you in heaven.
I miss her very much.

I 'm happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her.
She likes to swim and play with balls.

I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog.

I really miss her.
Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey & Meredith,
addressed it to God/Heaven.

We put our return address on it.

Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she
said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven.
That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office.

A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet.
I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch
addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar hand.

Meredith opened it.
Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.'

Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God
in its opened envelope.

On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I
recognized her right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore.
Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart.

Abbey loved being your dog.

Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to
keep your picture in so I'm sending it back to you in this little book for
you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you
write it and sending it to me.

What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.

By the way, I'm easy to find.
I am wherever there is love.

Love,
God

Actually this lady I think worked

for the "post office" not the USPS. A little bit of a rabbit hole there if you'd ever like to peer down inside it...

It's definitely going to hell.

but...

there are no bad dogs... just really bad owners =)

I would have to agee.

there are no bad dogs... they are only trained to be bad. Just like people.

Awesome!

No one ever considers the opposite.

Who knows what was going on there? I don't for a moment think that God "wrote" a letter, but something quite extraordinary happened!

Maybe HE had a hand in it.

Question:

Does the Creator not have a hand in all of Creation?

Are we all a part of it/he/she?

Isn't it really all about energy and finding a way to get along without too much friction?

Touching story

If it were me, I would have said "Honey, Abbey is in the Lord's hand now, and because God is in heaven, we can't write him a letter, but we can do something much better....we can talk to Him right now and let Him know what is on your heart and He will hear every word.

I would then help her to pray. Hopefully a godly parent would be teaching their childen to pray every day!

True love includes being truthful. We are told to always speak the truth with love!

When the child grows older, they will KNOW whenever they need an honest opinion or guidance that you are not just telling them something other than the whole truth just to make them feel better.

They will look back at times like this and trust you!

Prayer is the power that moves mountains!

Then I would probably take her down to the local pound and help her pick out another new pup!

Peace

Thank you so much for this beautiful post, vinceableworld!

I simply can't believe some of the comments here from people who do not understand that children are not miniature adults. And I'm sorry if they have never experienced miracles in their own lives to know that they do happen. It's not something I can comprehend, how some would attempt to "reason" this through, unable to simply appreciate it for what it was - an act of kindness motivated by LOVE. May God bless the soul who went out of his way to help mend a child's broken heart. And may God bless you for sharing such a heartwarming story.

wow..

I'm glad I got a happy comment in here before the whole story was picked apart and run into the ground..

As a 6 yr old I experienced the death of a beloved cat and was told it was dead and buried and that was pretty much that... I was heart-broken and remember it painfully even now. I would have loved my mother to have helped me deal with the loss the way the mom in the story did. Getting the letter and the dealing with loss book back from the God of kindness and empathy would have been wonderful for the 6 year old me. Maybe even put me on track to better deal with the extreme number of losses since that time? That would have been wonderful

Obama is GOD spelled backward...DOG!

Evil spelled backward is LIVE...

Obama lives to be a DOG!

O'bomber, human, dog or what?

Most dogs are very nice animals, and they would be insulted to be compared to a human who knowingly and coldbloodedly murders hundreds, perhaps thousands of people across the world who have never done him any harm!

That he was the recipient of the Nobel "Peace" prize lends a macabre note to Obama, his Presidency, and his "humanity?".

Obama a dog? Not a chance! On the other hand, a scorpion, a weasel, or a sewer rat, sounds more realistic.

Beautiful story. Thanks for sharing

Contrary to public belief, there will be many more dogs in heaven, and many fewer people.

I look up and I see God, I look down and see my dog.
Simple spelling G O D, same word backwards, D O G.
They would stay with me all day. I'm the one who walks away.
But both of them just wait for me, and dance at my return with glee.
Both love me no matter what - divine God and canine mutt.
I take it hard each time I fail, but God forgives, dog wags his tail.
God thought up and made the dog, dog reflects a part of God.
I've seen love from both sides now, it's everywhere, amen, bow wow.
I look up and I see God, I look down and see my dog.
And in my human frailty...I can't match their love for me.

I find it kind of wrong.

Sorry, I know this will be unpopular, but this seems a little bit on the sick side. If they had just sent the book, that would have been fine. A little strange, but fine (although I think parents should be involved in what books are read). But, adding a fake letter from "god" puts it in the "wrong" category.

Now this girl is going to tell all her friends she got a letter from God, then all her friends are going to want to write letters and get a response, if they don't make fun of her. Then the other parents are going to have to fake letters from God because not every postal worker will do this. Then, at some point, some child will ask their pastor if they ever got a letter from God, etc...., etc....

What is wrong with teaching children the truth, that when animals die they just die? Learning how to grieve is important.

Full disclosure I do not believe in heaven or your god, but I just think it is dishonest. Much like prayers, it is much better to learn that sometimes they are not answered. It is then up to the parents to explain why.

So, you want to tell a 4 y/o the brutal truth?

You:

"Ha, Ha, your dog is dead! Get real kid!
This letter from God is bogus, bullshit!
This book is, too.
Just move on. This is no big deal."

Is this the response that you would prefer? May I ask if you are a parent? This kid is just 4 years old. What's the rush to reality? There will be plenty of time for her to learn about life. Rushing children into adulthood is what is wrong with this world. Sorry about the rant.

You didn't rant, no problem

Perhaps there is not a need to teach a child of that age about death, I was actually thinking they were a little older. But, as I mentioned the book by Rogers is a good start, no one has claimed the book is BS. The alternative you offered was nothing I would ever encourage. But, at the same time, you are providing a false choice by doing that.

I agree that rushing children into adulthood is wrong. But, by that exact same principle, faking evidence of a deity at such a young age would be equally as aggregious. I've always found it absurd that children 5 to 10 years old are paraded in front of Churches. I was raised Catholic and we had our First Communion in second grade - as if we could even understand the principle of transubstantiation. I was reminded of the movie "Jesus Camp", where 6 year old born-againers were pledging their life to Jesus (and George Bush), even though they weren't old enough to think for themselves.

If you are going to make the claim that teaching a child truth has an age limit, then that age limit should apply to religious claims as well. At some point they are too old and they learn the truth about the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause. But, getting a letter from God cannot be disregarded in the same way. I just think it is a very manipulative thing to do, based on your own principle of age and growing up too fast. Why rush to your "reality" that a god loves puppies, but not that pets die?

Understand. Thanks for taking the time to further explain.

I'm with you about magical thinking, signs, and wonders ascribed to the Deity. If that ever happens, that is for only those directly involved, and it's hearsay for everyone else. Brainwashing kids about God and putting them on parade is as bad as the six year old beauty pageants. Both are grotesque, IMO.

I have a great 11.5 year old dog that is in great shape. She can run with me 3-4 miles in the winter on the snow without any difficulty. The thought of her getting sick and one day dying is not on the radar right now. I could not deal with it. I just imagined that if I could not deal with this, than a little girl would do much worse than I would with such news. A letter from God, albeit not directly from God, would have comforted her. That letter would have also comforted me had I received it under those circumstances despite knowing the truth. That letter meant that someone else empathized.

If there is a little piece of God in all of us, who is to say that God did not help write that letter? You see that it still may have come from God. Peace.

So this child got a letter from God, and each of you are

mis-understanding that you are God! It is the goodness of the individual that shows the true nature of God. It is NOT the supernatural being that some suppose. There IS A GOD!

HE/SHE IS YOU!

You cannot fight it. TAG! Your it! NA NA NA! YOU ARE IT!

You can't hide. Your screwed, for You are God and God is YOU and You can't stop it!

Time (DEATH) is going to prove to each individual on this earth I am correct. Best thing is YOU can't prove me wrong. I have seen what you cannot imagine. This world is quite dark! The light is quite beautiful but the darkness will remain in hearts that cannot open the eyes to see. Religion/No Religion doesn't mean a damn thing to me. TRUTH is what is coming and No One can stop it. Not you, nor any Politician or Preacher.

The purpose of the post

was not to debate the origin/makeup of what/who God is. It was just a heart warming story... lighten up a bit maybe?

Love is real.

Lying to children...

To satisfy your own emotional needs, is not love.

I voted it down, and that is why.

It really takes a lot of gall

to accuse someone you've never met of lying to their children. Why? Because you are the knower of all Truth and Lies? That you seem to have a death-grip on.
