FINALLY! This is how we rewrite the rules and win!

Okay, let me keep it short. I hope everyone on DP takes the time to read what I say here in this post, because it could be the most important thing you'll read. Please, read the whole post, even if you don't click the links, and comment with your opinion so that everyone has a chance to at least see this before the topic drifts into oblivion.

Here is my thesis:

LIBERTY IS DEPENDENT ON SELF-GOVERNMENT. THIS MEANS THAT POLITICAL WILL MUST COME OUT OF THE SELF-ORGANIZED POLITICAL DISCUSSION OF THE PEOPLE, NOT THE STATE.

IF WE RELY ON THE APPARATUS OF STATE, THROUGH POLITICAL PARTIES, MEDIA, AND ELECTIONS TO EXPRESS OUR DESIRE FOR LIBERTY, WE WILL NEVER WIN.

ONLY THROUGH A SELF-ORGANIZED, UNIVERSAL FORUM THAT IS INDEPENDENT OF STATE, PARTY, AND MEDIA, CAN THE PEOPLE ASSERT THEIR WILL. ONLY WHEN INDIVIDUALS, THROUGH THEIR ABILITY TO CONSENT TO LAW (CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE), ACT IN CONCERT WITH THIS GENERAL POLITICAL FORUM, WILL THE STATE EVER BE MEANINGFULLY LIMITED IN AN ACTUAL CONSTITUTIONAL SENSE.

Our country is based on the tradition of self-government, but no longer has self-government. The mere suggestion that people won't follow an abusive and overreaching law should be enough to convince the state to avoid even passing one. Such a situation, where the state fears the people not the other way around, is what we must work towards.

The level of centralization of power in America is reaching a crisis point. In particular, because the economic and police powers of the federal government are impoverishing us as well as destroying our society in a moral and cultural sense. Not to mention the precipitous erosion of those actual rights spelled out in the first 10 amendments of the Constitution.

The establishment will above all else oppose a restoration of meaningful limits to federal and state power. Getting 'in' with the GOP did not work. Federal elections are not working. Even half-hearted attempts by courageous state legislators at nullification are coming up short because of the lack of support from the sovereign people.

We need to re-write the rules. No more GOP or electoral shenanigans.

This is what we will do:

TAKE OUR EXISTING POLITICAL GROUPS AND CLUBS, JOINING A GROUP IF WE HAVEN'T ALREADY, AND BEGIN TO CONSISTENTLY CORRESPOND AND CONVENE WITH EACH OTHER. TEA PARTY AND RON PAUL, NRA AND ANTI-WAR, OWS AND 9-12.

EVENTUALLY, IN EACH STATE, WE WILL CONVENE A 'GENERAL CONVENTION' OF THE PEOPLE WHICH WILL PASS RESOLUTIONS REPRESENTING THE BEST CONSENSUS OF AS MUCH OF THE PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

THE PEOPLE CAN THEN, INDEPENDENTLY AND INDIVIDUALLY, BOTH CIRCUMVENT THE PARTY SYSTEM AS WELL AS POSSESS A MEANS TO COLLECTIVELY ACT TO RESIST OVERREACHING LAWS THROUGH CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE

A nickname I've given to this 'general convention' is the 'radiant government'. That is, this will be a counterweight to the shadow government of insiders that have disproportionate influence in policy making.

This general political society will be voluntary and wield no power (because the power is in the hands and choices of each individual - 2nd amendment). It won't be subject to the level of corruption or vitriol that we see in the politics of state.

The permanent and persistent presence of the radiant government in American political life will allow the principle of self-government to survive any civil crisis.

2008-2012 was the awakening. 2013-20XX WILL BE THE TIME TO ORGANIZE AND ACT

I have made a series of podcast-like videos where I explain this whole idea in great detail. I know, they're pretty long. If you watch any of them, watch Part II which explains how to organize this radiant government.

I have also created a pamphlet which is something like an informal constitution for this radiant government. If you won't read anything more than this post, read that!
Pamphlet-Read It. Print It. Share It. Edit It. Whatever!

I want this idea to spread. Obviously if we are going to eventually see a critical mass of politically active citizens in any state actually accomplish this vision it will be because so many different points of view have come on board. In that spirit, other than this post and the resources I have included, this is out of my hands. Take this idea, mold it, change it a little if you want, make it yours. I don't care!! I just know that this is the only way to re-write the rules.

We have to organize, all of us, outside of the auspices of the state. That is self-government!!! And liberty can only come as a result of self-government.

Below are the videos I have created. They are also linked at the following website. I want to point out that the transcript for the videos is linked at the website. If you don't want to listen to these videos, but are interested, you can read the transcript: Radiant Government

THE VIDEOS:

"The Path to Self Government"

Part I: Theory of Rights, and State
This is mostly for context. If you're into political theory you might find it interesting.

Quote:
"When natural rights are infringed upon, those of one person by another, there is no society or angel per se that is going to come and pass moral judgment defending that person's rights. That's not what a right is. The man himself, placed in an unnatural situation, robbed of the ability to sustain his natural existence, will resist, or else whither and die. If not physically, than spiritually through suffering and regret."

Part II: Structure of the Radiant Government
This is the important video, it describes how to organize this general political society.

Quote:
"Moreover, if you combine the voices of all republicans, tea partiers, libertarians, and moderate liberals, you would have a group of people that would represent a large majority in most American states. If a movement to establish General Political Societies caught on, then significant reforms could be brought to bear on American government."

Part III: Using the Radiant Government to Re-write the Rules
The existence of a popular general convention in each state will finally make efforts such as nullification possible. Not only state nullification of federal law but popular nullification of state law. This video discusses some of these methods and also goes into greater depth concerning the theory of state vs popular sovereignty and the real power of the state.

Quote:
"But it goes beyond that. Americans are accustomed to the idea of their rights as well as the limits of state authority being spelled out in state constitutions. Debates over the rightness of policies sometimes fall back on what the constitution proscribes. While the constitution of any given state may have been written with the intent of honoring rights and limiting state authority to what the people have willed, it is hardly the final authority regarding those questions.
...
A state legislature will ONLY debate whether something is or isn't constitutional. The people must debate whether what is constitutional is or isn't actually right. That is the role of the general convention."

Part IV: Why the Federal Government's rules prevent reform
This last video is less important to watch, and is almost 2 hours long. However, if you get a thrill whenever someone does a take down on how pathetic the northeast/federal class is, and the extent to which they are like pod-people/mindslaves, then you should watch this. The point overall is that federal power is already so centralized, and has been for so long, that wins for liberty can only occur locally through the dedicated assertion of popular sovereignty. We're not going to win in the US Congress, and definitely will never win in the universities, not until the level of federal overreach is rolled back.

Quote:
"With education, the whole system exists in the form it does essentially due to the federal presence in society generally. There might not be a federal mandate governing the form of every school in the nation, but each state competes to prepare their students best for a society that ultimately does take its form from the federal system."

So let me summarize it differently

A voluntary forum of the people, independent of state, would be the means by which people would organize in the absence of the formal presence of a state.

What I am proposing is to establish such an organization concurrent with the presence of a state, in order to cause the state to exercise only those powers that the people have consented to give it.

The state legislature is a place for drafting law and playing politics. It is not the proper place, as we Americans have for too long assumed, to hold those general debates concerning the popular political will. This is the big lie.

We require political society that is independent of state. If we integrate political society into the state, the state will corrupt it.

But wait you say

Haven't the states created, formed, and amended their constitutions over the years on their own?

Well, where has that got us?

Good stuff!

I think that part of the problem is that everyone is so busy just trying to live, keep up with the bills, and and stay connected through the (smaller) institutions. Also the perfect idea spelled out, with impeccable timing would help. The Daily Paul has done some awesome things for us.
