Vatican backs Obama’s gun controls

All of the Roman Catholic libertarians and anarcho-capitalists at LewRockwell.com and the Acton Institute must be grinding their teeth over this one. Choose ye this day. . . .

CatholicNews.com reports,

The Catholic Church’s position on gun control is not easy to find; there are dozens of speeches and talks and a few documents that call for much tighter regulation of the global arms trade, but what about private gun ownership?

The answer is resoundingly clear: Firearms in the hands of civilians should be strictly limited and eventually completely eliminated.

I'm not surprised

"Government is the entertainment division of the military-industrial complex". - Frank Zappa

Ch. VI. b. 303.
" The economic well-being of a country is not measured exclusively by the quantity of goods it produces but also by taking into account the manner in which they are produced and the level of equity in the distribution of income, which should allow everyone access to what is necessary for their personal development and perfection. An equitable distribution of income is to be sought on the basis of criteria not merely of commutative justice but also of social justice that is, considering, beyond the objective value of the work rendered, the human dignity of the subjects who perform it. Authentic economic well-being is pursued also by means of suitable social policies for the redistribution of income which, taking general conditions into account, look at merit as well as at the need of each citizen."

That is just one, almost, random section. This whole "doctrine" looks like an Obama speech.

Armed resistence is not forbidden

Also, either in the "Catechism of the Catholic Church" or in the "Compendium of Social Teaching", the use of arms to overthrow tyrannical regimes is permitted. Strict criteria, like those for going to war are required. The statements by Vatican officials is a knee-jerk reaction to events of recent days.

This is true

and this policy of forced confiscation of guns is explicitly contradictory. I could point to the US constitution and say that our government supports gun rights. Does not mean current policies do support gin rights.

For Greater Glory!

I would encourage everyone of these so called leaders to watch the movie "For Greater Glory". This is the true story of the persecution and law banning the Catholic faith in Mexico. Without arms and courageous Catholics the faith may have perished in Mexico. It is obvious they have fallen into the trap that has been set to disarm the sheep so they may be sent to the slaughter.

On this day that marks the 40th anniversary of the greatest holocaust in history through the passing of Roe vs. Wade, why are we disarming? For the next holocaust of Christians?

Why is this surprising?

It is not my intent to bash all people of the catholic faith; however, if one takes the time to seriously research the history of the catholic church you can not but come to the conclusion that they have strayed very far from original Christian doctrine.

For anyone interested in taking the time, I highly recomend "History of the Reformation" by J.H. Merle D'Aubigne. It was written in 1872 and is a very thorough look at the circumstances which lead to the reformation. Prior to the reformation, the catholic church routinely sold "induldgences", which were essentially payments to the church for the forgiveness of a vast array of unsavory deeds and sins (even among them child rape and murder). This is a direct affront to the Gospel of Grace which clearly states that forgiveness is only received through repentance and faith in Christ, and even then that does not absolve you from facing whatever criminal sanctions society has ascribed for your law breaking. This is only one example of the many areas in which the catholic church has strayed far beyond the direct teachings of the NT. IMO, the catholic church does not represent Christianity.

This cult, just like all the other cults

They just like boys back ends and don't wanna be shot while indulging in them. Eff em all!

Rev. Federico Lombardi OF THE Vatican

This is a better, more informative story about this issue http://ncronline.org/blogs/ncr-today/catholics-unite-new-gun...

Gilligan's picture

None of those are official spokesmen of the Church...

There are hundreds and hundreds of organizations that claim to be "Catholic". Some are, most aren't.

Google is government.

Lombari is

and he's speaking for himself and 40 organizations he stands with.

Lombaro should repent and a petition for him being relieved of his office should be going around.. something for hte Knights of Columbus?

Gilligan's picture

Granger, if that Huffpost article is true, then you're right.

I am a member of the KofC and I'll take this up.

Google is government.

I LOVE KofC. You all look so handsome in your vestments, and you do much GOOD WORK. GOD BLESS YOU Knight Gilligan!

Is it any wonder that back when America was

a Protestant nation there was such anti-Catholicism? Read some of the writings of Samuel Morse (inventor of the Morse Code) and you'll see what I mean. In the 1850s, there were numerous street battles up North between the native-born population and Catholic immigrants because of the fact that the Catholic populations were democratically taking over entire communities and ruling them according to the dictates of the Catholic Church.

Catholicism can be dangerous when Catholics take their Holy See's opinions to be Scripture. True Christianity was never meant to ruled politically from one particular geographic point on the globe. If this was Lichtenstein giving its unwanted opinion on American political matters, nobody would care. The Vatican however, to some extent, holds the allegiance of more than ten million registered, American voters, 50% of whom, voted for Obama.

Gilligan's picture

The VAST majority of "Catholics" who voted for Obama

are Catholics In Name Only. They do not attend weekly mass, they do not believe what the Church teaches, yet they call themselves "Catholic". The mainstream media LOVE them when they loudly dissent from Church teaching.

Google is government.

And I suppose you've got an exit poll to back that up?

Unless you personally know every single Catholic that voted for Obama/Biden and know how often they attend church.

I guess I better say something about this~~

First, the comments did NOT come from Pope Benedict. Rev. Federico Lombardi made a statement, but just so you understand, this is akin to one Senator saying something and holding the President to believe the same thing.

Pope Benedict has not made a statement, so let's not twist things around. He does not have control over all Catholics OR Bishops, or even over the people who work for the Vatican, and he has no power or control--especially the liberal American Bishops!

POPE BENEDICT is against the "State" and against "Socialism" and "Fascism". He came out of Germany and knows all too well what this horrific situation causes, and he is very concerned about America! I have direct quotes from the Pope regarding these matters, if you want to hear them.

Sometimes, the less said isn't better.

If the Pope IS against the "State" and against "Socialism" and "Fascism", then maybe he should take this opportunity at this critical time to speak out and make a difference. If the religious right is really right, who better than the Pope to lead the way.

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

Speaking of horrific

Does the pope oppose Pedophilism?

If he does, it's high time he purge the church of the perverts of the cloth.

Show me an institution responsible for more violence

and we might have a new least-qualified player in this field.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

Institutionalized Marxism

Ban pedophile priests

Has Obama banned pedophile priests?

They've shattered the lives of thousands of innocent children.

The Vatican should eliminate the sexual predators from its own ranks before becoming too concerned about my constitutional rights to keep and bear arms.

Big freaking suprise.

Big freaking suprise. Religeon used to enslave.

Just Another...

...example of globalist-collectivism speaking.

Personally, the Theocratic-State that is the Vatican and the cultish-religion it leads/represents, pose just another intrusion into our sovereignty and individual liberty and I give their opinions and desires no more credence than those expressed by communist China reference our burgeoning totalitarian-government's efforts to disarm the people in these united States.

I wonder if his 'holiness' and his loyal minions are capable of finding a rope somewhere, then pissing up it?

The vatican does not believe

The vatican does not believe in birth control either. Evidently they dont think we are capable of making any decisions ourselves and need them to tell us what we should do. I wonder how many squares of toilet paper the vatican will decide we need to wipe our ass. Whatever you do, do not question their authority. Rene de Cartes did and he was sentenced to death and had to flee France to keep from being beheaded. I guess they believe in tough love.

I consider myself a

I consider myself a catholic/christian. I believe in God. I do not believe so much in the man made church ruled by a man roaming around in all of the gold and riches that make the church what it is today. These are the same people that have been protecting pedophiles. God is where I put my thoughts and energy into. I lost lots of faith in the church a while back.

It is better to look dumb and not be, than to look smart and not be.

the criticism here is about power structure and rulers, not average people. As F. Hayek said - in a power structure, the worst people usually get to the top.

On a personal level, you may consider this: if loving and sacrificing for your neighbor is a virtuous cause, then you have no principal disagreament with socialists and other collectivists. You may argue about means, but ethics and morals are the same.

Sorry, you lost me.

It is better to look dumb and not be, than to look smart and not be.

They should read their own book

Catechism of the Catholic Church

2264 Love toward oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality. Therefore it is legitimate to insist on respect for one’s own right to life. Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow: (2196)
If a man in self-defense uses more than necessary violence, it will be unlawful: whereas if he repels force with moderation, his defense will be lawful.... Nor is it necessary for salvation that a man omit the act of moderate self-defense to avoid killing the other man, since one is bound to take more care of one’s own life than of another’s.66
2265 Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm. For this reason, those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility. (2240)
