My thoughts listening to Barack Obama's Inauguration Speech

"What makes us exceptional, what makes us America is our allegiance to an idea articulated in a declaration made more than two centuries ago." - President Obama

Isn't this the same President that told us he wouldn't allow the States to peacefully secede? Is not The Declaration of Independence a call to secession? Could we not make a list of crimes by Obama longer than that of George III? I agree with the President that the ideas in our Declaration of Independence is what made this country exceptional. The ideas of freedom, inalienable Rights, and limited Government, nothing like the President's ideas of socialist healthcare, disarmed citizens, and a never ending drone war.

"Together we discovered that a free market only thrives when there are rules to ensure competition and fair play. Together we resolve that a great nation must care for the vulnerable and protect its people from life’s worst hazards and misfortune." - President Obama

I disagree, plain and simple. The free market always thrives without rules, consumers make the rules by free choice. The free market enables competition while Government regulations hinder competition. The free market forces fair play while Government gives bailouts to it's friends who in turn give millions to campaigns of both partys. These sentences from the President can be summed up by: "Each to his own ability, each to his own need." - Karl Marx

"For we have always understood that when times change, so must we, that fidelity to our founding principles requires new responses to new challenges, that preserving our individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action." -President Obama

COLLECTIVE ACTION is required to preserved individual freedoms?????? Leave this one to Ayn:
"Collectivism holds that the individual has no rights, that his life and work belong to the group . . . and that the group may sacrifice him at its own whim to its own interests. The only way to implement a doctrine of that kind is by means of brute force—and statism has always been the political corollary of collectivism." - Ayn Rand

"A decade of war is now ending, and economic recovery has begun" - President Obama

I call BS, the wars aren't ending and the economy isn't recovering. These are both giant bold face lies to the nation that anyone with a working brain and internet access can see right through. How can a President get away with this? This is where I quit listening and turned off the TV. The things our President is saying scare me, but the crowds cheering these lies and Marxist doctrine scare me even more.

"And He said to them, 'To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables. So that seeing they may see and not percieve, and hearing they may hear and not understand; lest they should turn and their sins be forgiven them.'" Mark 4:11-12

Here's to hope in the next four years and change in 2014. May God help us all and deliver us from the trials and tribulations to come. Hopefully Democrats will start to see through this man and find Libertarian-ism. God Speed

Excuse Me Can't Talk

Comrade Shumer

I was going to see what kind of bullshit was going to be said, but I didn't even make it past Shumer's opening when he started his yammer about our great democracy. I was going to keep watching just to see if the word 'republic' would be spoken even once, but I instead flipped around stations that didn't have the thing on and was struck by the alternatives. Yes folks, while the 'leader of the free world' was babbling his tripe, real Amerika soldiered on...Lie detectors and DNA tests to settle threesomes arguing over paternity and marital infidelity on Maury....and lesbians dumping carmel and peanuts on each other in a baby pool on Springer. Actually, these shows had more integrity. lol

Don't try to analyze this POS

He isn't worth your time.

Obviously he is just what the ignorant lemmings need. The faster he destroys everything the sooner we can recover the Republic.

I just hope I live long enough to see the day when the ignorant lemmings wake up and say "What the hell?"!

Collapse is the only cure left for this country.

The PTB are not going to give up until it all comes crashing down on them.

Sooner or later people come out of their drunken states and accomplish extraordinary things with far fewer resources than they had when they were high.

America needs to hit bottom.

Just pray that it comes soon.

It's weird how I can't help but give myself into morbid curiosity about this DECEPTION-IN-FLESH-AND-BONES-FREAK once in a while... and blame myself shortly thereafter.

Like right now.

Ah well. Moving on.

I think that we need to come up with some way

to get organized and educate this country's teenagers and 20-30 year olds on the supetiority of capitalism over socialism, of Austrianisn over Keynesianism, of Classic Liberalism over Progressive Liberalism, and of liberty over statism. I say 11-29 year olds because they're the voters that are going to shape this country's future over the next twenty years, they're the least likely to be set in their ways, and since we have limited numbers right now, it's better that we concentrate our efforts on educating one particular demographic, at least until there's over ten million of us.

No.7's picture

Easy enough for me. I'm 21

I can relate with most anyone in the 11-29 demographic.

I'm already there and I agree with you. I do take time to tell anyone willing to talk about the principles of Liberty and Libertarian-ism. I've had the most success with people my age and often have success talking with seniors on the golf course or on the town square.

The old guys get it too, I also usually learn something about real history from older gentlemen. The stuff you don't see in the history book.

Bizzaro World

Here is the transcript for those that feel a need to know, but like me, are nauseated at his voice.

http://bostonglobe.com/news/politics/2013/01/21/president-ob...

Warning, there is a pic of him there, I hacked up a fur ball when I saw it. ;)

Almost everything he said was the exact opposite of what he intends, and is doing.

He mentions that the civil war was fought with lash and sword. Really? I thought they used guns.

Where it wasn’t the opposite it was couched in the rhetoric of national pride.

No single person can train all the math and science teachers we’ll need to equip our children for the future, or build the roads and networks and research labs that will bring new jobs and businesses to our shores. Now, more than ever, we must do these things together, as one nation and one people.

He trailed off before he said "with me as king", I think.

That’s how you build a perfect little ant colony, not a world of free humans.

Just open the box and see

The civil war

was fought mostly with two different sized muskets with a bayonet attachments as well as artillery rounds. I think a musket may actually be defined as an assault weapon as silly as it is nowadays although no permit is required to own one. Replicas are available but I don't think they can shoot actual rounds, only paper with some powder.

Calvary did use swords however.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavalry_in_the_American_Civil_War

Fort Point in SF will hold a demonstration (no paper rounds, just demonstrating the art of war during the civil war, this weekend.) But I've yet to see one which someone held a sword, although I do know swords were used.

I'm part of the 69th Northern Irish Brigade re-enactors, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Brigade_%28U.S.%29 and back then I would have fought for the south (well being a potato farmer more likely the north but with my current philosophy I would have fought for the south had I not been Irish - actually I'm the only re-enactor who has an irish name in the 69th Irish), but I still find it fun to be involved in such things, gamble with all kinds of weird money issued by strange banks, and have some fun, sweat in wool, and tire myself out and then have to get up at 0300 to guard the gates and such.

It's fun. But swords were used, albeit I think very rarely, mostly muskets and bayonets.

I can follow all verbal orders and stack arms and such. Unless you've actually participated you have no idea how difficult it was back then. That musket feels like it's 30 pounds. Add onto that what feels like 20 pounds of clothing.

And this weekend rain. But if you live in the SF bay area you should come out for fun. It's free.

Again, I've never seen a single sword although I know they have been used by calvary.

I hope that helps.

They were used rarely but they were used.

Love re-enactors

I hope you have fun at the reenactment.
I lived in San Francisco as a kid, and I loved the fog horns from the Golden Gate Bridge when the fog rolled in.

In Tennessee, where I am now, reenactments are a cottage industry. There are literally dozens of civil war battle sites a stone’s throw from me.

Swords were mostly carried by officers, and were a decoration, and status symbol. I'm sure it would have been used if it was a convent, handy weapon, but not a primary choice. The range of a sword vs. a musket is not very even. Even a musket with a bayonet was preferable, having the length.

I also had the privilege of firing a musket once, as a teenager. That is one LOUD and powerful gun. It vaporized the clay target I shot at (and part of the dirt backstop). It was loaded and prepared by someone else, of course. I carried the bruise for two weeks. ;)

Obama's comments about "lash and sword" were designed to be poetic, but, more than that were completely false. His position seems to be that the war was fought over slavery, which is patently false.

Slavery was an "add-on". Economics was the real reason that war started. A quick read of the Emancipation Proclamation will show anyone that slavery was NOT the topic of that war, as the document freed very few people. I'm sure that during the war, freeing slaves and arming them was done, but it was hardly the chief reason for the war.

At that time, I would have fought beside you on the side of the South. I am NOT pro slavery, and believe that all men are equal, but, the war was simply not about slavery. Slavery would have, and did, end all on its own eventually. Economic slavery is far more sustainable, and is the path the US eventually settled on for ALL men (and women).

Even here, in Tennessee, the misconception that the civil war was fought over slavery is rampant.

Judging by his actions over the last 4 years, his speech was only hollow words. His actions show that he doesn’t believe what he said. He is an eloquent speaker and many people will be fooled by him, choosing to listen instead of look. Hitler was a silver tongued devil too.

Most Americans are still enmeshed in the Republican/Democrat paradigm, and believe that congress actually controls and contains him, also completely belied by his actions.

His claim that A decade of war is now ending. An economic recovery has begun.
is completely false. The anger and resentment we have engendered over the last decade and more is coming home, there is no way to avoid that now. On the contrary, his drone war has assured it, in addition to the economic policies that have bankrupted the country.
I fear that the wars and usurpation of freedom have only begun. :(

Personally, I don’t believe the US will survive the next 4 years, I hope I’m wrong.

Just open the box and see

Yeah, and why do we need to

Yeah, and why do we need to bring jobs to our shores....is that because it allready all went offshore? Maybe we could just makes some homegrown jobs and industry without looking over our shores if Gov't would just step out of the way, stop taxing and regulating businesses and individuals to death and see the prosperity that thrives.

Exactly

Your right, there is little reason to "bring jobs to our shores", if we hadn't sent them away in the first place. If they could actually get out of the way, as he implies they should in his speech, we have a very nice cottage industry, waiting to burst forth.

The hemp industry could actually bring a large economic boost, but that will never happen.

Hemp was tied to marijuana, and marijuana made illegal, to promote the synthetic industry (think DuPont). During WWII the demand was so great that synthetics couldn’t keep up and hemp was grown by 4H clubs across the country.

Tying hemp to marijuana effectively removed hemp from the mind of the US, in a cloud of "immorality".

We even seem to have forgotten that canvas was hemp, and even the name canvas comes from "cannabis".

What a collectivist idea

That we must "do these things together as one nation and one people".

Obama should remember that no single person can make a pencil either, but it didn't take a centralized Government to create a pencil.

The individual who refuses to defend his rights when called by his Government, deserves to be a slave, and must be punished as an enemy of his country and friend to her foe. - Andrew Jackson

Here's what I think:

When I was in school, we each took turns reading poems out loud. I recall one girl skillfully reciting a deeply disheartening poem that caused me to think twice. When the teacher asked everybody what they thought about her poem, another girl smiled and said that she thought that it was joyful and beautiful.

obama is indeed poetic. But as I've listened to his rhetoric enough during his first term, let alone his actions, I can no longer stand to hear his pathetic voice, no matter how poetic it may sound.

People hear what they WANT to hear. I listen for truth. Therefore, I did not watch his inauguration.

Obama is an expert at doublespeak and the people eat it up.

Obama said many things today that sounded great on the surface, but implied deep hypocrisy and darkness in the words "Collective Action" when talking about defending individual freedoms.

My Thoughts Are..

...why would anyone even listen to his lies, collectivist-blather and his expressed desire to suppress liberty whilst advancing the power, size and scope of 'the state'?

No.7's picture

Lol, I could only stomach so much myself

It makes me sick, how could this man swear to protect the Constitution knowing his own actions? The lies and hypocrisy are getting ridiculous.
