...the essence of the argument finally became clear at the very end and the audience apparently agreed with the veteran that:

the bill of rights is based on timeless principles that remain relevant for as long as humans exist together in society.

the professor failed to convince the audience that the 2nd ammendment is no longer relevant for modern times

(too bad our vet believes going to war for oil or the banks is ok as long as he believes he's "doing it for his country") No excuse.
