What Insanity! 41 Year - Old Woman Arrested After Cruise For Stealing A Pack Of Cigarettes In 1991

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (CBS Tampa/AP) — A woman returning from a cruise vacation is being held in a central Florida jail on a warrant from 1991.

Brevard County Jail records show 41-year-old Robin Hall is being held on an out-of-county warrant. She’ll stay there until she is transferred to Orange County — possibly on Thursday — where she was arrested more than 20 years ago for stealing a pack of cigarettes at a local Wal-Mart. She was 18 at the time.

Hall tells WESH-TV she owes the state $85 in court costs.

“I just want it all to be over so I can go home,” Hall told the station.

Little confused, so are you arguing

I am a little confused, so are you arguing that it's alright to steal other people's property and shouldn't be held accountable for doing so? Or would that only be ok with you when the property is worth below a certain amount?

I don't believe anyone is

I don't believe anyone is arguing the point that it is alright to steal other people's property. I think you must get, on some level, how ridiculous this is. Let's not be ludicrous.

Looks more like

I think it is more to do with

I think it is more to do with the like of Jon Corzine walks free on 1.5 billion and this woman does time for a .50 cent pack of smokes... What a great system...

is there not a statute of limitations in CA? of like 2-3 years?

for a misdemeanor like this? if so... why would they even be allowed to prosecute let alone collect?

I'm guessing she was

Im guessing she was either already convicted and failed to pay her fines or she failed to appear in court; in which cases an arrest warrant could be issued. I believe the statute of limitations refers to how long the victim has to file a complaint; since the warrant was issued in 1991 it sounds like the complaint was probably filed at that time as well.

You don't understand how the bonding system works.

Nor the summary judgment the court will collect on this..It's probably in the neighborhood of $3-4 million.

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

It'd be nice if she could then turn around and sue

the dept/state for 'loss of wages' and 'mental anguish' at having to be put through that crap for $85. Would that be $85 in '91 fiat currency? Cuz back then that 85 bucks had a purchasing power of anywhere between $129 and $214!! OOOPS! I better not give then any ideas. Though it looks like she saved herself some money by not paying then!!!
