A Republic if You Can Keep It...

My great, great, great grandfather, Roger Sherman, was one of 56 founding fathers to sign and help draft the Declaration of Independence as well as one of 40 men to sign and help draft the US constitution. He was a true patriot and long time friend of Thomas Jefferson. He would conclude his career by serving in the US house of Representatives (1789-91) and the Senate (1791-93). It wasn't long after I found Dr. Paul that I became interested in my families history regarding the beginning of this great country. After many conversations with grandparents and relatives alike I managed to trace back my family lineage and to our surprise and my delight I found out I wasn't alone in my embrace of liberty and defiance of tyranny.

We as Americans need to remember that our ancestors fought tooth and nail for our freedoms. I don't know about you guys but it's a god damn shame the American people, me included, have sat idly by as our rights continue to be legislated away and all while under the guise of keeping us safe. My forefathers didn't come over on the Mayflower in 1620 to escape the hardships of British tyranny just to have their descendants face similar threats to liberty some 400 years later. Have we not learned from our own history? Will we ever learn? It's time for us all to dig in our heels and fight the good fight for our natural god given rights. Remember, we all must be the change we want to see in this world and it won't be easy. As Benjamin Franklin once said, "It's a Republic, if you can keep it."

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent" - Thomas Jefferson

I have at least three ancestors who fought in the Revolution

From both my parent's families, possibly more since my family has been here since about 1640. One was killed in VT was in his early sixties. In gun control debates with friends I've mentioned my ancestors a few times, how they beat the world's best army & navy with muskets and whaleboats, how it wasn't over deer or duck hunting. You wouldn't believe some of the responses I've gotten, some about "quaint historical fantasies", etc., and Glenn Beck's tri-corner hat (SMH!). Unbelievable how ignorant some people are, nothing but contempt from some quarters. How they forget that secession and self-determination was what started this country, but only racists support secession and self-determination? Dear God.

You've found your heritage, congratulations!
