Around 15,000 South African crocodiles in 'mass escape' during floods

Around 15,000 crocodiles escaped from a farm in South Africa after heavy rain and flooding hit the north of the country.

The owner of the Rakwena Crocodile Farm was forced to open the gates on Sunday after concern over a storm surge, local press reported.

Many of the crocodiles have since been recaptured but over half remain on the loose in the Limpopo River.

"There used to be only a few crocodiles in the Limpopo River. Now there are a lot," Zane Langman, whose in-laws own the farm, told Beeld newspaper.

Potential Personal Loss vs Negative Local Impact

The Crocodile farmer made a selfish decision.
On farms, farm animals are assets and responsibility.
The Farmer dumped his crocodiles into local waters to preserve his own interest.
That point seems to be missed.

Not to worry

Here in the U.S.A. we have crocodiles in congress that are more terrible and threatening than any in your country, and they just cannot be rounded up for the safety of the people!

We need a Crocdile Dundee to the rescue, but he is not to be found!

What a dilemma we have!

Too late. The real Crocodile Dundee was killed...

...in a shootout with police over gun confiscation, according to the article in this link...

How very sad

He held to what he believed with his very life, and the government cock-a-roaches ..er....crocodiles, devoured him.

Another "freedom fighter" gone

Good Point

I'm horrified of alligators, but I guess congress is scarier. They will swallow you whole just like alligators.

What predicaments some people have to live through!

Storm, flood and 15,000 hungry crocodiles!!

(Yes, I appreciate this type of news as well, jrd3820. It brings back a healthy perspective of the unknown part of LIFE and frees me from obsessing totally on my little chores of the day. Thank you & DP for this!)

Glad you enjoyed

I like the weird stuff, it lightens the mood for some of the more serious stuff going on around here.

Hope they have enough to eat.

Hope they have enough to eat. That many crocodiles in one place will require a lot of calories.
