Amash mends fences with BoehnerSubmitted by Ed Thinking on Sat, 01/26/2013 - 22:11
U.S. Rep. Justin Amash said he and House Speaker John Boehner are on better terms now than they were late last year when Amash was kicked off the House Budget Committee, a move seen as retaliation for Amash’s independent voting record.
Amash said during a town hall meeting in Marshall on Saturday that House leaders need to understand that the Internet and social media make members more likely to voice their own opinions. Amash, a fan of communicating to constituents through Facebook, said he spoke with Boehner in the speaker’s office after requesting a meeting.
“I think we understand each other a little better now,” Amash said.
“He’s a good man,” Amash said of Boehner, R-Ohio. “I’ve never disputed that. We’ve just never seen eye-to-eye on strategy.”
