18 votes donates $30,000 in gift cards to gun buyback program

I just wrote a letter to Amazon from my customer account, I was enraged to see that they donated $30,000 to a gun buyback program in Seattle. I am shocked and disappointed in them!

MERCER ISLAND, WA -- The first Seattle gun buyback in 20 years netted more than 160 guns in just the first two hours, including one unexpected item, originally said by Mayor Mike McGinn to be a rocket-propelled grenade launcher. Police later clarified that it was a used launch tube for a Stinger surface-to-air missile.

Hundreds lined up for the event, which began at 9 a.m. Saturday, to trade their handguns, shotguns and rifles for $100 Amazon gift cards and state-classified assault weapons for $200. Amazon donated $30,000 in gift cards to the program, McGinn said.

We aren't talking about

We aren't talking about Paypal/eBay, who are explicitly against the second amendment. It's Amazon and you could almost build your own AR with the gun supplies made available on their website. Amazon hasn't stopped allowing gun parts or accessories and if they feel they need to back some VOLUNTARY buy back program, I don't care. The biggest indicator of their intentions is what they sell. Spend your efforts going after eBay, Paypal, Buffalo Wild Wings, BOA, and the many other retailers that are banning guns/parts/etc.

I have no problem with Amazon doing this. People can bring in their broken arms, get some value for it, and buy another working arm. :D

Amazon = Suckers!

I just wrote amazon a note and told them if they gave $30k in gift cards towards a "gun buy back program" I certainly hope they gave more in gift cards to the "oath keepers" or the "2nd amendment center".

you gave them a good idea 1777

Very good idea!!!

I hope Michael Nystrom gets rid of this:

Until you are prepared to

Until you are prepared to cover the cost to replace that income stream, please don't to tell Mike Nystrom how he should run his web site.

Can you READ?

"HOPE" was the word used.

I appreciate your reply to the previous post.

Folks defend Michael for many good reasons.

No hard feelings on my side as the ideas that we chose to unite around have the most importance.

I try to change people every day. Do You?

I understand but that was out of line.
The tone of your post was very honorable, and no reason to be like that.
I have been this way as well- so I understand, AND I WAS CALLED OUT EACH TIME!

What exactly is the problem?

Let me preface this by saying that I am staunch believer of the 2nd amendment, and in no way am supporting coerced disarmament of any American.

When I first read this, I too was a little upset that Amazon was participating in this program, and I considered sending a letter telling them as much.

But let's think about what is actually happening here: a place is being set-up for a couple hours where anyone can voluntarily sell/barter their guns with relative certainty that they will be destroyed.

A) No one has been forced to turn in a weapon, as far as I can tell this was entirely voluntary
B) I would imagine most of these weapons were probably collecting dust in a closet somewhere or the owner had very little use for them
C) After the recent (alleged) events in CT, perhaps some people realized how easy it would be for someone to get a hold of their weapon to be used for a crime. Granted, there are very good ways to prevent access, but not everyone has a gun locker, and if they weren't using the weapon anyway, I would not expect them to purchase one. Most gun owners would consider this a responsible action. (EDIT: By "this" I mean, selling a weapon that cannot be reasonably secured)
D) This would probably seem like a safer alternative to some than selling at a gun/pawn shop, due to concerns of being re-purchased for criminal activity. (Not necessarily agreeing with this, but I know several people who think this way.)

I welcome comments/ criticisms regarding what I said. I may not be seeing the whole picture here, as the article was brief. So if you disagree, maybe you can shed some new light on the situation and change my mind

People like you and is the problem is not "participating in this program", Amazon "IS" this program.
However, in some ways you are right about "participating in this program" in that, "IS" participating in the U.S. Governments program of disarming Americans whether the people are freely selling their Guns or Not.
This isn't helping to get Guns off the streets so those Guns don't freely go out and shoot people, or somehow get in the hands of criminals that could shoot someone, This "IS" helping this out of control administration doing everything (including, by unlawful means) they can to disarm ALL Americans for the next step in their puppet masters plan to enact their NWO.

So, you are either a fool to think it's not that bad a deal, a fool to think is just helping out OR, maybe, YOU are one of the Governments Jesters, doing all you can to trick the people here into thinking what was OK and perhaps a good thing.
Either way, No one that is truly a supporter of the Constitution and especially a supporter of the 2nd amendment would ever say what you said.
But, then again, you didn't say you support the 2nd amendment did you.
You actually said you are a "staunch believer of the 2nd amendment"
A "staunch believer of the 2nd amendment" only means you believe of the 2nd amendment" Not a supporter "OF" the 2nd Amendment.
Big difference.

You said:
"Most gun owners would consider this a responsible action. (EDIT: By "this" I mean, selling a weapon that cannot be reasonably secured)"
So, in some mysterious way, YOU know what most Gun owners think?
You believe that you can speak for "Most gun owners" in saying;
"Most gun owners would consider this a responsible action."

IMO, YOU are a traitor to the Constitution, a mole to this thread and should be banned from the dailypaul.

I've bought a lot of stuff

I've bought a lot of stuff from Amazon. But not anymore. Most items can be had directly from the merchants anyway.

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

Pity. I've spent a lot of

Pity. I've spent a lot of money with them. Not anymore though.

Vote with your dollars

You decide if you own their stock or use their services. This isn't the first time they've made a political statement and it won't be the last. Amazon has been operating in the red since their beginning. They are simply losing less money over time. I'll continue to use them when it makes sense for me.

Gun Grab - Not Gun Buyback - Anti-Constitutional

My orders and all further business with has ended Today!

I don't give a damn if it's their right to do this, it's nothing more than a helping hand to the Fascist Pig in OUR White House doing everything in his power to destroy OUR Constitution to help enact his puppet masters NWO and "I WILL NOT BE A HELPING HAND IN THIS OUTRAGE" and, I pray all the people that care about American and understand why we currently have freedom here - close their accounts and never do business with them ever again as that is exactly what I'm doing.

Bye Bye Amazon

I am one of Amazon's best customers, spent over 4,000 in past two months alone.
I'm closing my account along with an appropriate letter, right after I 'add' a few things to my comments posted about things I have bought and reviewed. SOMESOHBEECHES!

How do you contact amazon? I

How do you contact amazon? I have always bought items as a guest. I want to let them I am boycotting them until further notice.

I couldn't find the "close account" tab, can you help me find it

I couldn't find the location on they're site to close my account and sent them an email instead telling them to close my account but, if you can help me find that tab/location on their site, I would appreciate it as I fully intend to close my account ASAP.
And, I will NEVER do business with them again. = Once a Fascist always a Fascist!

UP-vote for "thanks for this heads-up post"

I'll log in my amazon account and express my displeasure as well.

That won't be enough . . .

The only way to hurt people with a lot of money is by not giving them any more money.
Don't do business with them and spread the word of what they are doing is the only way to hurt Rich people and it's the ONLY way to get their attention.
Everything else is just peanuts to the rich.

this sucks

i use Amazon a hell of a lot.

they contribute to many different organization. Many of which are children's hospitals and various research funds for children's diseases. And they give them way more then $30000 to them. Millions more probably. This was probably just the decision of the local Amazon employees and does not reflect the company as a whole.

I will still use them, but I will let them know I didn't like this.

Anyone find the contact email for this?

Letting them know you didn't like this means Nothing to the Rich

If you care about your right's in America you will Stop doing business with

This might be Amazon's way of

This might be Amazon's way of placating those who believe that online retailers should be hit with taxes.

Conslusions from this:

1 - Amazon has every right to do this
2 - I have the right to empty the shopping cart I was planning to purchase with them today

This is two very big strikes for amazon. The first one was wikileaks.

and a question...

If I can get locals to sell me their handguns and shotguns for $100 and rifles for $200, I am IN. Where do I sign up? I'd love to help remove weapons from the hands of people who don't appreciate them. Feels like a patriotic duty...
